The Bomb Girl Brides

‘Just as soon as you want!’ she replied with a joyous laugh. ‘I’m all yours, and Stevie’s too,’ she added with a giggle.

After they’d made a plan to meet up in the very near future, Rosa put down the phone and, smiling widely, she walked back on to the cordite line, where her friends needed no explanation: the look on their friend’s radiant face was the look of a woman who had finally found love. None of them could have wished for anything more for their dear Rosa, who had waited long for this moment. If any woman deserved peace, happiness and a safe haven, it was Rosa Falco. As the clattering conveyor belts rolled relentlessly on, Rosa’s friends diligently returned to their war work, each saying the same prayer: God bless Rosa as she enters into a new era of her life, now with Arthur by her side. Julia, the so-called clever snob who became a friend and a mentor to all the Bomb Girls, prayed for all her wonderful friends: Maggie with her Les; Gladys with Reggie; and sweet Nora, the radiant bride-to-be. They all deserved nothing but happiness and blessings in their future lives, in a world where they could live in peace when the war was finally over.

  Acknowledgements

I’d like to thank all my readers who have enjoyed my ‘Bomb Girl’ books. I love corresponding with you on Facebook. You have no idea how much I value your comments, especially on days when I sit staring at my blank computer screen; it’s then I recall your remarks with pleasure and they urge me on – so please don’t stop!

I particularly want to thank the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) Talk and Support Group. A few months ago Faye, Peggy, Diane, Anne, Urma, Marise and I logged in over the phone to talk about The Bomb Girls. They asked lots of insightful questions and supplied me with some fascinating personal history, too, as some of them were children during the Second World War. The stipulated hour just flew by and when our time was up we were all reluctant to stop, so I suggested the group read (in large print) or listen to the audiobook of The Bomb Girls’ Secrets, which we’ll discuss in our next session. Really looking forward to it!
