She leaned up and kissed him. “Mine.”

  CHAPTER 32

Shyla and Angus sat at the table with Vanessa, Ethan, Asia, Hawke, Silas, and Jasmine, finishing lunch. “Thank you so much, that was good, I’m stuffed,” Shyla said, pushing her plate away.

“You’re welcome, and again, forgive me for being so pushy the other day,” Jasmine said.

  Silas snorted.

Asia and Hawke looked away, smiling.

  Vanessa bit her lip.

“Pushy is tame compared to what I’ve heard,” Silas said, taking her hand.

Shyla laughed and took Angus’ hand. “We got the job done, Ma’am, and that’s all that matters.” She looked at Angus and traced his lips. “That’s the only thing that matters.”

“Yes.” Jasmine touched Asia’s hand. “Feeling better?”

“Much. Based on what Hawke says was in my system, I should’ve been fine. There’s no reason for being unconscious that long. We’re still researching the ingredients to understand why it affected me the way it did.”

“Good, keep me updated,” Silas said.

“Shyla, your mom called me to talk about your bonding ceremony, she’s excited,” Vanessa said, smiling at her friend.

“She’s called me, Angus, Asia, and La Patroness, and we haven’t been here a day,” Shyla said, throwing up her hands.

“This is her only shot, so she wants it a certain way,” Vanessa said.

“But we’re the ones mating, not her,” Shyla said, cupping Angus’ chin. “It’s okay if you indulge in in-law jokes, I won’t be offended. She’s a handful.”

He kissed her forehead and wrapped his arm around her neck. “As long as she’s not crazy like the Wernhers, we’ll be fine.”

“No one’s like that. What happened to Cancer?” Silas asked Angus.

“Ran away. If Gilbert hadn’t found him, we’d probably never see him again. Did they get all the information on Asia?” Angus looked at Hawke.

“I took care of it,” Hawke said, picking up his mate’s hand.

“Oh, I meant to tell you, Lilly’s pregnant. She called this morning with the good news. They’d been trying and she didn’t want to get her hopes up again. But the doctor confirmed it,” Jasmine said, lifting her coffee cup in a toast.

  “Wonderful news,” Asia said.

Vanessa frowned. “Is she the one you said had seven already?”

Jasmine cleared her throat and smiled. “Yes, yes, she does.”

  “Oh,” Vanessa looked at Ethan.

Laughing, he stood and pulled her to her feet. “Thanks again for everything. We’ll be getting on the road to head back to Maryland.” They waved and left the room.

Angus stood and extended his hand to his mate. “Silas, I’m taking a leave of absence to bond with my mate. I’ll send you the date of the mating ceremony.”

Smiling, Shyla bent to place a kiss on Jasmine’s cheek. “Thanks for everything. I appreciate it.”

“Thank you,” Jasmine said, watching them walk away. “I wasn’t pushy, Silas.”

“No, you were a tyrant. Cain and Abel are still quaking in their boots.”

  “Tell him, Hawke.”

“You did attack the Goddess,” Hawke reminded her. “Few people would even think of doing that.”

“Should I call you Sweet Tyrant or Bitch Tyrant?” Silas asked, teasing.

“Neither. Call me yours and we’ll call it even.” Jasmine leaned forward and kissed him before he could respond.

  Chapter 33

Angus stepped into the garden decorated with lavender and cream ribbons and flowers. He looked at the chairs filled with guests, many he knew, some he didn’t and nodded greetings.

Silas walked up behind him and slapped him on the back. “Glad to see you’re awake. After last night with Cain, Abel and those kegs I thought I’d have to carry you in here today.”

Angus chuckled. Last night had been fun, he hadn’t seen Silas in a month. Shyla’s mother kidnapped him to prepare for the mating ceremony and to assist her in moving back to the house to reclaim her duties as Mengistia until Shyla could return. Based on what Shyla told him about her mom’s feelings for the house, he agreed sitting through planning sessions and fittings were a fair trade.

“I woke with the sun. Nothing could’ve kept me away from this today. I’ve waited a lifetime for my Shyla.” He smiled at Silas. “She’s my heart.”

Silas grinned. “She’s a perfect match for you, I couldn’t be happier. Shyla and Jasmine have redone your rooms. Everything will be ready when you return home.”

“Shyla told me. She’s excited to live in the compound and wants to start our den right away. I never thought I’d have all this.” He extended his arms at decorated garden, reception tent and all their guests. “This is beyond anything I could ever imagine.”

“Shyla’s family did a great job.” Silas looked around. “Come on, it’s time to take our places for the ceremony.”

Angus cleared his throat and walked toward the dais. Grandfather stood on the stand prepared to officiate the ceremony. In the past month, Angus and Silas met with the old man separately to get a better understanding of what happened in Plias. Chancellor had misled them all in a ploy to get back at the men who used her. The Goddess relieved the brokenhearted woman of her duties and sent her away to heal. Now that Shershrine knew all their secrets, grandfather decided to come out of the shadows and made plans to be more involved with his seed.

  “Ready?” Grandfather asked Angus.

“Since day one,” Angus said eager to finish formalizing his relationship with his mate. Although they’d slept together every night since their return, as far as his in-laws were concerned, today was the day he claimed their daughter as his mate. Since it was important to Shyla, it was important to him.

Standing next to him as witness, Jasmine called it best man, Silas chuckled as the music started.

Jasmine was the first attendant to walk down the aisle, followed by Vanessa. Both wore wide smiles in lavender and cream dresses.

David and Adam, dressed in black suits, walked up the aisle carrying velvet gift boxes containing a gift the mates chose for each other. They stood next to their mom.

Jackie, Sarita and Renee dropped silk flower petals from baskets as they walked up the aisle in lavender dresses.

“Hi Uncle Angus,” Jackie said waving at him when they reached the dais.

“Hello, my beauties,” Angus said winking at them. The music changed.

Angus’ heart clutched as Shyla stood at the end of the aisle wearing a lavender gown that fit her like a glove. She was so beautiful, he couldn’t help but stare as her parents walked her toward him. A true gift of love.

Ignoring everyone, he met her halfway, took her in his arms and thoroughly kissed her. Her arms tightened around his neck as he pulled her close, never wanting to let her go. They broke apart gasping for air. He touched her forehead with his own. They stood in the middle of the ceremony, committing their lives to each other through touch.

  “Whenever you’re ready,” Grandfather said.

Angus took her hand and escorted her to the dais. “Let’s get this done.” The crowd laughed, several howled and within ten minutes this part of the mating ceremony was done. They decided not to have the full pageantry of well-wishing, toasts, and long talks.

When they finished their meals, the music started. Angus pulled Shyla onto the dance floor, held her close and promised to never let her go.

“I love you, Angus Blackwolf,” Shyla whispered.

Hearing her say those words never got old and he doubted they ever would. “I love you too, Shyla Mason-Blackwolf.”
