Mason's Revenge Page 9

She continued typing as though she never heard. He rolled his eyes and was about to make a phone call.

“How about tonight?” she piped up.

“What!” Did he just hear right? He stared at her with his mouth wide open.

“Close your mouth. Pick me up at eight.”

  No reply.

“Rupert, are you going to say anything. Were you joking?”

Suddenly brought back to his senses, he replied before she changed her mind.

  “No, no. 8 o clock.”

  He couldn’t stop grinning.

“You should try and act a little bit cooler,” suggested Polly.

He composed himself. “Get back to work, otherwise I might change my mind.”

Polly shook her head and got on with whatever it was she was working on. Rupert couldn’t concentrate. He’d been asking her out for over a year. She’d always turned him down. He had to get out of the office. With his phone in his hand, he walked to the staff toilets. No one was in there so he did a little happy dance. He wanted to call Mason and tell him all about it; if it was any other girl, he would have but he decided to see how the date went first before announcing it to his friend.

At 8 p.m. on the dot, he picked her up in his car. He wanted to show it off a little and took the liberty of booking a restaurant near his hotel – just in case. He drove around the dreary suburbs until he got to her road. So this is where Mason grew up, no wonder he hated it. Why a woman like Polly still lived here, he couldn’t understand. He parked outside her house; a few passers-by checked out the car. On the doorstep, he took a deep breath and rang the bell. A few moments later, beautiful Polly stood on the other side.

“Wow,” was all he could say.

Her dress was tight and short, her heels high and her hair down. Always smart but conservative in the office, he’d never seen Polly look like this before. She never wore her hair down at the office, it was always tied up in a neat, professional bun or chignon.

He offered his arm and led her to his car.

  “A Tesla, I’m impressed.”

He thought she might be. He knew she was keen on the environment. Always telling him off if he threw his rubbish in the office bin rather then taking it to the recycling bins. Lecturing on him about his jetting around and general gas-guzzling activities.

“It’s the only car I drive now,” he lied, not mentioning all his other less environmentally friendly cars in his garage at home.

He opened the door of the passenger side.

“You’re a gentleman; I would never have guessed.”

Nor would he but he was determined to be on his best behaviour that night. He jumped into the driver's seat and glanced at her.

“Damn it, Polly. You are so hot. How about skipping dinner and going straight back to my room?”

The best behaviour vow didn’t last long. Polly glared at him.

“It’s just dinner. Don’t get carried away.”

Fine, he was disappointed but didn’t really expect to get Polly into bed that night. She was a classy woman and he ought to start treating her that way.

Over dinner, the wine flowed and once they got the work talk out of the way, the conversation relaxed. Polly was digging into his private life.

“So you’ve never been married, engaged or lived with anyone?”

  “Nope.”

“Have you even been in a serious relationship?”

He paused and had to think about that one.

“I went out with someone for three months once.”

  “What happened?”

“It just fizzled out,” he lied.

  “After three months?”

“Okay, I cheated on her and she dumped me.”

Damn it, why was he telling her this stuff. He was supposed to be impressing her.

“But that was a long time ago. I’m much more mature now.”

  She laughed at that.

  “How about you?”

She shrugged, there was nothing to tell. She hadn’t even been out on a date since Mason.

“How the hell does someone like you not get hit on all of the time?”

“I don’t go out much,” she admitted and then it was only work. Most of the men were too intimidated to try it on with her.

Rupert knew better. This ice-maiden persona was just an act.

“Why don’t you let anyone in?”

“Well, I did with Mason and look how that turned out.”

Hmm, he didn’t want to talk about Mason.

“Rupert, did he ever confide in you about that?”

So far he’d been enjoying the evening. Enjoying talking about himself and getting to know Polly but the subject of Mason spoilt the flow.

Rupert made an excuse and went to the loo.

  Chapter 45

  Polly

  * * *

Polly realised she’d ruined the evening. Bringing up the subject of Mason had been a big mistake.

When he returned to the table, before she could apologise, he got in first.

“Look, Polly, if you only agreed to come out with me to get information about Mason, then let's just eat and I’ll drive you home. No judgement. I promise not to try it on with you again.”

  That was disappointing.

“No. Honestly, that wasn’t my intention. I need closure – just to know that I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I promise you didn’t do anything wrong. Mason had his reasons and I can’t go into them but he overreacted. So are you sure you didn’t agree to dinner with me just to get information.”

“No, I came out just to shut you up.”

That put a smile on his face.

“I can think of a better way to shut me up,” he suggested.

“Oh stop it and eat your food.”

Polly changed the subject and the evening went by without any more hitches. He led her out to his car, no more talk of staying over at his and he drove her home.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Polly,” he said.

He watched her as she walked to her door. She looked behind before she went into the house. He flashed his cute boyish smile; a smile that she thought about until she went to sleep. The night had turned out surprisingly well.

  Chapter 46

  Rupert

  * * *

He watched her walk to her door. Once she was safely inside he drove away. The evening had been enjoyable apart from the mention of Mason.

Initially, he was going to throw the full Rupert charm at Polly and attempt every trick in the book to get that woman to sleep with him that night. But after spending quality time with her, he knew that wasn’t the method to use with Polly. Polly was fragile, he didn’t know why but he knew one thing – rushing her was not the way to go about it.

As he pulled up to his hotel, his phone rang. It was Mason. He thought about ignoring it; he wasn’t sure if he wanted to mention the date but knew he’d have to come clean sooner or later.

  “Hey, Mase. What’s up?”

“I wanted to talk to you; are you around this evening?”

He admitted to being in Stillwaters.

“What are you doing there? I thought Polly had taken over. You’re still after her?”

“Yes, she finally agreed to go out to dinner with me tonight.”

  A slight pause from Mason.

  “Congratulations. How was it?”

  “Good.”

“Is she with you now? I can call back later.”

Rupert admitted to being on his own.

“Mason, your name came up. She asked why you treated her so badly. I didn’t know what to say. She needs closure.”

“Don’t tell her anything, got it? I made a huge mistake buying that company and going back. I just want to forget about it. Okay?”

“Just tell her for god’s sake. Let her get on with her life.”

“We had a two-week fling. It was nothing. She barely knows me. Can we stop talking about her?”

  “Fine. So w
hat did you want to talk about?”

  “I wanted your advice.”

  “About what?”

  “Relationships.”

  They both laughed.

“I’m definitely not the person to come to for advice,” admitted Rupert.

“You’re the best I’ve got. I was thinking of proposing to Caitlin. What do you think?”

Rupert thought it was a terrible idea. But then again, a married Mason would take him completely out of the picture.

“I did not expect that. Yeah, go for it. She’s hot.”

She was but not as hot as Polly.

“You don’t think I’m rushing into it?”

  Yes, he definitely was.

“No, you’ve been together for over six months. Get a prenup. I’ll organise the stag do.”

“Steady on, I haven’t even got the ring yet. But yes, it feels like the right thing to do.”

  “You love her?”

  “Yes.”

“Well then, it’s the right thing to do.”

They said their goodbyes and arranged to meet up soon. Rupert put the phone down. His friend was making a big mistake but he didn’t want to tell him because he wanted Polly all to himself.

  Chapter 47

  Polly

  * * *

“Good night, Polly?” asked her mum, who was sitting up in bed.

“It was actually. Very pleasant. Rupert’s easy to talk to.”

“You’re back early. I thought you might have stayed over with him.”

  “Mum, it’s a first date.”

“Oh, live a little. Don’t be such a prude.”

“Goodnight, Mum,” she called before her mother embarrassed her any more.

But maybe Mum was right. Mason had moved on and Rupert had unattached fun all the time. Why couldn’t she? It also helped that Rupert was very easy on the eye with his boyish good looks.

She texted Rupert to double-check he’d be in the office tomorrow. His schedule was erratic and he didn’t actually have to be there – ever. She knew he only came in to see her.

Why? Missing me already? He texted back.

  A little she texted.

I’m lying in bed thinking about you

  Me too

  Shall I come over?

No. She didn’t want him to come over with her mum lying in the next room.

  Goodnight and see you tomorrow

  Night, night, sexy

She switched her phone to airplane mode before she got into any more trouble.

The next morning, he was already in the office. He wasn’t usually there before her.

“I got you a coffee,” he offered.

  That was nice of him,

“I’m glad you texted last night.”

She smiled at him as she turned on her laptop. From the corner of her eye, she could see he was just staring at her.

“Are you going to do any work today?” she asked as she continued typing.

  He sighed.

  “What’s up?” she asked.

“I’ve got to go away for a couple of weeks. Three at the most.”

Oh. Her latest plans for seduction were ruined.

  “When?”

  “Tonight. Emergency in Hong Kong.”

“Can’t someone else deal with it?”

  “No, they need someone senior.”

  “Tell Mason to go.”

“Er, he’s a little preoccupied with something else. Why Polly, I do believe you don’t want me to go.”

  “Nonsense,” she smiled at him.

He stood up and walked over to her side of the desk, bent down and whispered in her ear; “you’re going to miss me.”

Her pulse quickened. She felt flushed. She looked at him.

  “I will not,” she denied.

  “Come with me?”

That was not an option. She couldn’t leave her mum for three weeks and it was the financial year-end at the company. There was no way she could get out of work.

  “Quit and bring your mum.”

She laughed. How easy life was for him.

“It means I won’t see you for three weeks, Polly,” he reminded her.

That was true. She stood up to face him.

  “Shut up and kiss me.”

He didn’t need to be asked twice as he pulled her towards him and finally got his kiss. After a few moments, they stopped and stared at each other. What were her mum’s words the night before – live a little? She took his hand and pulled him into their private bathroom.

“Oh my god, Polly. I’ve wanted you for such a long time,” moaned Rupert as he pulled her hair down and kissed her frantically.

She returned the kisses with equal frenzy. He pulled her blouse apart, ripping the buttons off. Her lacy bra exposed. He dragged off her blouse and undid her bra, covering her breasts in kisses. At the same time she tugged at his belt and pulled his trousers down. There was no time to lose. Louisa could come looking for them at any minute. His hard cock sprang out as soon as she pulled his pants down. He pulled her skirt up over her waist and tugged at her pants as he rubbed his erection against her.

“Oh Rupert,” she moaned in between kisses.

His fingers reached in between the wetness of legs. She moaned louder.

  “Put it in,” she demanded.

He pulled one of her legs up and positioned himself against her. With a final adjustment, he thrust inside of her.

“Oh god,” she moaned as he continued thrusting in and out.

He bit her neck; she bit his ear. He thrust his tongue in her mouth. She reciprocated with the fast and aggressive kissing until finally, he came inside her. He panted and she rested her head on his shoulder as he touched her until she came too. She let out a loud moan as he covered her mouth.

  “Shush. Louisa might hear.”

They laughed. Rupert gave her one last kiss before moving to the sink to tidy himself up. Polly stood at the wall, exposed and breathless. He looked at her through the mirror as he washed up.

“I must go away more often.”

She shook her head; she couldn’t believe what she’d just done. Knowing she was probably going to have sex with him, she didn’t think it would be so soon and in the office bathroom.

“Look at the state of me. My blouse – it’s ripped?”

He kissed her again, smoothed back her hair and laughed at her.

“You’ve never done anything like this before, have you?”

Definitely not. He probably had on numerous occasions.

Rupert sneaked back into the office and confirmed they’d got away with it. From his bag, he pulled out a white t-shirt. He brought it back to Polly. Tucked into her skirt, with her suit jacket over it, it looked fine.

“Although, I think you should sit topless in the office from now on.”

“You never get any work done as it is. Can you imagine how much you’d get done if I had my boobs out all day.”

  “We could try.”

She slapped him on the arm and pushed him out of the bathroom.

  “Some privacy please,” she demanded.

With Rupert out of the way, she looked into the mirror. Who was that brazen woman looking back? She laughed. It was good to let go sometimes. Back it in the office, she felt she ought to explain to Rupert.

“It was just sex. No strings attached, okay? Don’t get the wrong idea.”

“Are you just using me?” he asked with a feigned expression of sadness.

“Yes, have you got a problem with that?”

“No boss. Use and abuse me as much as you want. I’m all yours,” he said with a cheeky wink.

  Chapter 48

  Rupert

  * * *

What the hell was that? Polly just seduced him. It was awesome. He made phone calls, wrote emails, trying to cancel his Hong Kong trip. It was no good, there was no one else to deal with it, he had to go. What rotten timing.

He looked at her through the office door window. Three whole weeks without her
. Hopefully, she’d miss him desperately and throw herself at him on his return. He checked her schedule with Louisa; it was full of meetings for the rest of the day – not even chance for a goodbye lunch. He grabbed her before he had to leave.

“I’ll call you,” he promised. “And I’m taking you out when I get back. Okay?”

  “Okay,” she agreed.

Out in Hong Kong, he kept himself busy and out of trouble. His colleagues drank heavily and they frequented bars after work. Beautiful girls caught his attention but for once he wasn’t interested. He turned them down and remained with his colleagues.

“What the hell is going on with you and Mason?” asked an old colleague one night. “Not only is Mason engaged, you’re also turning down all the beautiful women checking you out. In fact, this is the most time I’ve ever spent with you, you’re usually off with some woman by now. This can only mean one thing?”

“What’s that?” asked Rupert, curious to see what his friend’s answer was.

“We’re all getting old and boring.”

Rupert decided not to divulge his feelings for Polly.

“Never boring, old friend,” he clinked glasses.

“What are we toasting to?” came a voice from behind.

Rupert looked towards the voice. A leggy, stunningly beautiful woman stood behind him. Tight dress, knockout breasts and legs up to her neck; he couldn’t take his eyes off her. Black, silky hair down to her waist – a tiny waist. Red lips and brown almond eyes. He was lost for words.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us?” she asked Rupert’s colleague.

He laughed. “I spoke too soon. Rupert, meet Anna. Anna meet Rupert.”

She sat and joined the two men and they ordered champagne. She was a model in Hong Kong. Mother from the city and an American dad made a gorgeous mix.
