  Chapter Thirteen

  Maya

I hate him. I hate him so much. I’m quitting tonight. As soon as we get back to the cabin. I’m quitting and I’m making him get me a ride out of here. This is a waste of time. I’m not going to be treated like that anymore.

I hugged myself in the backseat of the SUV.

The ride to our cabin was literally only a couple minutes.

That was the longest couple minutes of my life.

Cole had the balls to sit there in silence. Not offering anything to me.

The drinks I had didn’t go to my head. They went to my muscles. I felt big and strong, ready to fight someone. There were two versions of Maya when I was drunk. The happy and fun version. And the version who wanted to fight someone.

Now, I had never fought anyone, but tonight…

The SUV came to a stop.

I threw open the door and stepped out.

The air was like ice. Like little knives cutting at my face.

  I stopped, shivered and groaned.

The dinner had been warm. The drinks warmed me up. The comments that angered me made me warm too.

Hey, Cole, want to call me a cheap whore again so I can get warmed up?

His insults were like a blanket.

I would have rather froze to death than hear his voice one more time.

I kicked the door shut for effect even though nobody saw me.

My first two steps were stumbling steps.

  Stupid heels.

I paused to correct my balance.

As though I could tell the drinks to just calm down as they worked their intended magic on my body.

“Let me help you, Maya,” Cole said.

I looked at him. It was too dark for him to appreciate the look I was giving him.

  “I don’t need you,” I said.

I bent my right leg and pulled my high heel off. Then I did the same with my left one.

I left them right there on the ground.

  For effect.

I hurried to the porch and when I opened the door to the cabin, it was brighter and a little warmer. Not the true cabin warmth since the fireplace wasn’t being used.

Tonight was supposed to be different.

I wanted to come back here, get under a blanket, sit in front of a fire. And write.

I walked toward the bedrooms and then paused.

“If you know how to build a fire, please do so,” I called out. “I’d like to get some writing done. Alone.”

If Cole was that much of a dick to not do what I said, then so be it.

After all, this was my fault.

I was the one who allowed myself to be sold out like this.

He offered to let me get paid the entire time we were at the cabin and together.

I just wasn’t fully prepared for it all.

I wasn’t Rissa. I would never be Rissa. My career wasn’t going to be that.

I didn’t want to judge her, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to be compared to her.

Once I was in my bedroom, I slammed the door and hurried for my suitcase.

Without thinking, I reached back and unzipped the black dress. I ripped it off my body, wiggling my hips and then stomping on it like it was on fire.

Next went the strapless bra. I hated that fucking thing. Without shoulder straps it was like someone tied my boobs to my chest… and it wasn’t all that comfortable.

I reached into my suitcase and dug around for something else to wear.

I wanted my favorite PJ bottoms and a comfy hoodie.

That was the perfect writing attire, if you asked me.

And then I was going to sit in front of the fireplace with my laptop and write my book about my asshole boss.

I needed more light in the bedroom, but didn’t feel like turning a light on.

I was one track minded, and a little more than drunk.

I lifted a long sleeve shirt out of the suitcase and held it up.

  “Nope,” I said.

I dropped it to the bed.

As I dug through the suitcase, I came to the sad conclusion that I might have forgotten my favorite PJ bottoms.

“Of course I did,” I said. “What else could get fucked up tonight?”

My question was answered a few seconds later.

  When the bedroom door opened.

I gasped and grabbed the long sleeve shirt and quickly put it on.

I managed to pull it down just below my butt as the light flicked on.

When I spun around, Cole stood there with his shirt untucked and unbuttoned, showing off a tight, sleeveless white shirt under his fancy shirt.

“What?” I asked. “Don’t you knock? I was almost naked.”

  “I don’t care,” he said.

“Of course you don’t. Trying to get a look at me or something?”

“No, Maya. Not at all. I wanted to apologize.”

  “Excuse me?”

“For tonight,” he said. “That wasn’t supposed to be like that.”

“Oh, really?” I asked. “So you didn’t bring me as your cheap whore? You didn’t want to parade me around and tell me I’m ugly except when I’m wearing a dress? You didn’t want that creepy old guy to offer to pay me so he could fuck me? Need I go on with what was said tonight?”

  Cole leaned against the doorway.

  His hands in his pockets.

  “Well?” I called out.

  “Are you done?” Cole asked.

  “Done? Are you kidding me?”

“I’m letting you get it out,” he said. “You deserve the chance to do that.”

“You know what? Don’t do that. Don’t treat me like you did and then think a quick apology is going to fix it all. That’s not going to work on me. You have no idea who I am.”

“I think I know you better than you realize,” Cole said. He pushed from the doorway. “I came up with this idea because of you, Maya. You’re smart. You’re strong. I was hoping to sit at the dinner and work at him while you watched. Because I knew you would observe it all. That’s why I brought you here.”

  “How’d that work out, Cole?”

“It didn’t. He brought me for the same reason. And he thought I brought you for a different one.”

“You knew that though,” I said. “You wanted eye candy hanging off your arm. You wanted someone to make jokes about. Right?”

  “No, Maya.”

“You were shocked when you saw me in a dress. I met your standards for a little while.”

“It was shocking because I never saw you like that before.”

“What? Never got a good look at my chest before? Never got the chance to see my ass and imagine fucking it?”

Cole snarled his lip. “You want to get mouthy right now? Do it. I thought I could apologize and be human with you, Maya. You’re drunk. You’re looking for a fight. I get it. You want me to fix this? You want me to make this up to you? Fine. I’ll do it right now.”

“And what exactly are you going to do?”

Cole flexed his big, strong hands. “I’m going to go beat the shit out of Mr. Pickle for what he said to and about you.”

“Yeah, do that,” I called out.

  Cole turned and disappeared.

I stood for a few seconds.

  He was only kidding, right?

I ran to the bedroom door and looked down the hallway.

  Cole wasn’t there.

So I ran down the hallway to the living room and there he was.

Making a line toward the front door.

  “Cole!” I called out.

  He stopped and turned. “What?”

“What in the hell are you doing?”

“I told you. I’m going to go beat the shit out of Mr. Pickle. He had no business talking to you like that. If he wants to talk to Rissa like that, that’s his business. He’s paying her. I’m paying you. And it’s not the same. I’m paying you to work because you’re good at your job.”

  “He’s paying for the sam
e thing, Cole.”

“Oh well,” Cole said. “I didn’t bring you up here to feel like a doormat. Not from him.”

“Cole, stop it,” I said. “You’ve made your point. You’re such a hero. Such a tough guy. Wow. I’m so lucky to have you as my boss.” I looked to the fireplace. There was a fire starting to grow. “You got the fire going…”

“Yeah, I did,” he said. “So relax and write. Let me take care of everything else.”

He made another move toward the front door again.

When he opened the door, I gritted my teeth.

And I ran after him again.

Believe me, I got the picture.

He wanted to be the hero and beat up the guy that offended me. He was feeling guilty, and that was only because of the drinks.

I ran out on the porch after him.

The cold air hit me and I stopped.

“Holy fuck, it’s cold out here,” I said.

“Go back inside, Maya,” Cole ordered.

  He ran down the steps.

  I went after him again.

My feet burned from the cold porch, steps, and ground.

“Fuck you, Cole,” I called out.

  He spun around. “What?”

“Fuck you.” I hugged myself. “Don’t be a hero right now. Don’t ruin your deal. Not for me. I’m far from worth it.”

Cole came toward me. “I tried to apologize to you, Maya. That wasn’t enough. So I’ll make it enough.”

  “It’s enough,” I said. “You’re drunk.”

  “So are you.”

“Then let’s go inside and be drunk together, Cole. You go your way. I go my way. Everyone gets what they want.”

  “You think so?” Cole asked.

  My body ached with shivers.

I was literally wearing a long sleeve shirt and a pair of panties. Nothing else. I felt my nipples painfully hard, pressing against the fabric of the shirt.

  My teeth chattered.

And every couple of seconds a stray snowflake danced around Cole and then fell to the ground.

“You’re not some cheap whore, Maya,” Cole said. “I don’t want you to ever feel that way.”

“It’s fine,” I said. “It’s not your job to protect me. It’s my job to protect you. So get the fuck back inside right now. Please.”

I shuffled my feet back and Cole grabbed my arms.

“Maya,” he said. “You looked beautiful in that dress tonight. But you look beautiful without it too. Okay?”

  “Cole…”

“Just hear the words and stop being so stubborn,” he said. “Don’t make me fire you right here. You’re outside in the cold.”

“Do whatever you have to do, Cole,” I said. “I just want-”

Cole lowered his mouth down to mine.

  Ut. Fucking. Oh.

  Chapter Fourteen

  Cole

Maya melted into me at that first kiss.

My hands slid around to her back and I pulled her tight against me.

There was no voice in my head telling me to stop kissing her. And there were no punches thrown from Maya telling me to stop either.

  I felt her shivering.

Her hands grabbed my shirt and her chest pressed against my body.

I felt the swell of her breasts. Even her nipples… they were perky, tight, cold.

I moved my hands down to her ass, over her shirt, and I picked her up.

That made her eye level with me.

The kiss broke and I walked up the steps and across the porch.

We went back into the cabin and I kicked the door shut with my right foot.

At the same time, I reached with my left hand and killed all the lights in the living room.

All we had then was the glow from the fire in the fireplace as it danced shadows left to right and up and down.

I stopped walking and stared at her.

  “Cole…”

“Say the word and I put you down, love,” I said. “We never talk about this again.”

  “But… why…”

“I just told you. You’re beautiful. You deserve better than what happened tonight.”

“And your cock is going to do just that?”

Oh, her mouth is drunk and dirty…

I growled deep in my throat and kissed her again.

Our tongues playfully attacked one another as I walked her through the living room.

At the fireplace, I came to a halt again.

The fireplace meant something to her.

She wanted to write in front of it.

I was going to offer something better than that…

My right hand spread as wide as it could across Maya’s back.

We kissed like we had never kissed before.

Sloppy, noisy, with that sense of desperation and need pouring from her.

I threw as many blankets and pillows on the floor that I could grab from the two couches within reach.

  The floor was a mess.

And so was this situation between us.

  I was her boss.

  She was my secretary.

Technically she was getting paid as I kissed her…

Maya was back on her feet and I was far from done kissing her.

I broke the kiss anyway, my forehead to hers.

My hands moved down the sides of her perfect body, feeling the curves her normal clothes had always kept hidden but that damn black dress showed off.

At the bottom of her shirt I grabbed with both hands.

“Don’t fuck me over, Maya,” I whispered. “This has nothing to do with business. Or work. Or anything. Got it?”

“You’re the one taking the risk, not me,” she whispered back.

  I gritted my teeth.

Now she was fucking with my head.

She was the one becoming the boss…

  Hell no.

I lifted her shirt up and she lifted her arms up with it.

As her shirt moved over her head, my eyes looked down to her full breasts.

They were a perfect handful for me. Her nipples were small, button shaped, still hard.

I tossed her shirt to the couch and put my hands to her sides.

Maya gasped and moved to her toes.

My eyes met hers for a second.

“I won’t fuck you over, Cole,” she whispered. “I promise.”

I dipped my head down to her chest.

I took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of her soft, warm skin.

My left hand moved under her right breast, serving it to myself.

My mouth moved over it and I engulfed her.

I sucked in a deep breath through my nose and growled as I tasted her skin.

My tongue flicked her nipple, making Maya groan and jump, pushing her chest and body closer to mine.

When I pulled away, I took her nipple between my lips and tugged just enough to make her groan.

I opened my mouth and moved to her other breast.

Maya grabbed my shirt, her hands became twisted in it as she wrestled to get it off.

I said goodbye to her left breast too soon as I stood up and let her slide my button-down shirt off my body.

She was topless and beautiful, her hands gliding up my arms, tracing lines of muscle, moving to my chest.

She grabbed the top of my undershirt and looked me dead in the eyes.

“Take it all off, Cole,” she purred.

I put my hands to the small of her back and pulled her against me.

She let out a small yell and I kissed her.

Gently, I lowered us both down to the floor.

Her hands clawed at the back of my undershirt.

She got a firm grip finally and tore it up over my head.

Without a second of hesitation, she reached for my pants.

I grabbed her wrists - both at the same time - and stopped her.

“No, Maya,” I whispered. “I’m the boss. You listen to me. I take control here.”

  Maya swallowed hard.<
br />
  She nodded.

  “Yes, Boss.”

Her panties slid down her legs so smoothly.

I dropped them right at her feet and put my hands to her knees and gently parted her legs. I watched as her hands grabbed for the blankets.

  It made me smile.

She wasn’t sure what to expect with me.

We were both feeling the drinks from dinner, but it was far more than that.

I remembered the day I met her.

  On the elevator.

  This beautiful, innocent looking woman.

  Who looked nervous.

But the way her eyes looked at me told me a different story.

  That moment stuck with me.

Then I saw her near my office and realized just exactly who she was…

  Not that it mattered now.

I moved forward and pressed my lips to her left inner thigh.

She groaned and rocked her hips.

Instantly, the sweetness of her desire hit my nose.

I force myself to take a deep breath as I moved closer to her sweet core.

Her tender, glistening folds were curled open, so inviting for my tongue.

I had no choice but to taste her.

The tip of my tongue thrust forward, feeling her tight warmth sheathing me.

Maya whimpered and lifted her ass off the floor so quickly.

I pulled back and slid my hands under her ass and realized something.

She hadn’t been touched in a while.

She hadn’t been tasted in a very long time either.

The last time she had been with a guy was probably some quick and cheap fuck, picked up from a bar. After drinks. Just to try and get off.

I wondered if she even did get off at all.

The thought of it started to get to me. Like I cared about her bedroom activity…

I slid my tongue up her tender slit.

Maya whimpered when I found her clit.

Her pearly bud made me growl again.

I closed my mouth around her and began to suckle.

Her ass tried to move to the floor, but I held her up with my hands.

  “Cole!” she cried out.

She grabbed my hair with her right hand and pulled.

  I didn’t let up.

My tongue circled around her clit and flicked when I felt like it.
