“Good they all deserve it.” Yuri growled.

“There’s more,” Sazon informed him. “They are making good progress tracking down the women and children. They are using the money in Vitya’s accounts to set up a center for helping his victims. They have also taken into custody all the members of the government as well as the Bratva he was paying to look the other way. They are being stripped of everything they own. When they get Vitya back home, they will stand trial as well. They could even face his punishment.”

Yuri stared Sazon. “A firing squad?”

“Da, Sergi wants a message sent to the rest of us. He wants the Bratva to know he won’t allow us to betray the honor he demands we hold dear, and what happens to those who do.”

“Good, maybe this shakeup is needed.” Barshan nodded.

“Da, we all need to be reminded every so often, exactly what we stand for,” Yuri agreed.

  Chapter Fifteen

Grace shed silent tears as she cooked their supper. Just days ago she had been living a lie and yet, she’d been happy in her world. Then the bandage had been ripped off and her world had crumbled to the depths of hell when her father’s body hit the floor.

He had been her safety net all her life and now, he was gone. She had to wonder if she would ever feel whole again. Then she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her waist. She hadn’t heard him come into the kitchen but she felt so glad he was here.

She had no idea what the future held but for now, she leaned back against his chest and let him surround her with his strength. “A girl could get used to this,” she whispered.

“I hope you do,” he whispered in her ear as he spread kisses along her neck. “I found you, Malen’kly and now and I’m not letting you go.”

“Even though I have his blood in my veins?” she had to ask. She had to know his answer. “Can you and your men forget he’s my uncle? Because I don’t know if I can.”

“No one here blames you for that,” he told her with conviction. He hesitated then admitted to her, “I saw your mother only one time. My cell was next to Nikita’s and when she came to see him the night before she disappeared, I saw what was between them. They truly did love each other, that was very evident. She wanted to give him a reason to live, just a small bit of hope and when she told him she carried his child, his eyes shone with hope.” He shook his head. “I’d never seen anything like it. He begged her to escape. He told her his fate was sealed but she and the baby had to live. He pleaded with her to do everything she could to see their child born. And that’s what your mother did. She escaped and lived to give you birth, then she made sure you were safe. Gene did the best he could to make that happen.”

“I know he did. He loved me with everything he had. I miss him so much.”

“Did you also know he kept in touch with your mother over the years?” Red asked her. “She may have been in hiding but he kept her in the know about you.”

“She knew about how I grew up?”

Red turned her to face him and nodded. “She couldn’t risk coming around here. She knew Gene was wanted for her brother’s killing but when she left you with him, she kept track of the pair of you.”

“Did you read her letters too?” Grace asked softly.

  “Yes, I did.”

“I haven’t read them yet,” she admitted.

“One day when your heart is healed enough, you’ll want to read them. I’ll keep her letters safe for you so when that day comes you can read her words,” he promised.

“What’s going to happen to Vitya now?” She didn’t really want to know but felt she had to ask.

“He’ll stand trial in front of the High Council and then face a firing squad. Along with everyone in his group of supporters.”

“Can you stop whatever he’s doing?”

“Yes, the Bratva is working on tracking the women and kids down.”

“Good, I hope they can be helped and get their lives back.” She looked into his eyes. “What happens now?”

“Well, as soon as Nikoli gets here, he’ll take Vitya back to Russia under armed guard. Within a week, this mess will be over and you’ll be free of them all.”

She shook her head. “I don’t mean that. Did you mean it when you said you weren’t letting me go?”

Red stilled for a moment then instead of answering her, he looked into her eyes and asked her a question of his own, “Do you want to stay with me?”

She laid her head upon his chest while still wrapped securely in his arms. “I do want to stay but not because I need your protection. I want to stay only because you can’t live without me. I know this is fast but you are my entire world and not because I need protection. I need you. You make my heart beat faster, you surround me while giving me your own strength when I need it the most. You make me whole in a way no other man ever will. I know what I want for the rest of my life but only if that’s what you want too.”

Red quickly covered her mouth with his own. He poured all his passion into his kiss.

She felt his cock against her core and she groaned as their passion grew to the point of no return. When he broke the kiss, they were both breathless.

After a moment he whispered, “Does this feel like I’m letting you go anywhere without me?”

  Grace groaned. “I need you.”

“I need you too sweetheart, never doubt that for a moment but we have a houseful of people at the moment, and you are cooking. But as soon as we can, we’re going to bed. Got that?” he growled.

Grace backed up a little bit then raised her hand to cup his face. Looking at him directly, she whispered three little words to describe what she felt, “I love you.” She wet her swollen lips. “I love you with everything that I am or ever will be.”

Red nodded. “I love you too and I’m not letting you go ever.” Laying his forehead on hers he said, “I don’t know what our future holds but whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”

“Ok.” She hugged him close to her for a moment then let him go. “I have to finish this meal. The quicker we get supper over the quicker we can be together.”

Red groaned as he allowed her release. “Then hurry because I’m not waiting long to sink into your heaven.” He turned then hurried out of the room.

Grace had to smile at his retreat. Going back to supper, she finished up quickly. Earlier in the day she had made a big batch of spaghetti sauce and now she layered several large pans with noodles and sauce and topping it all with grated cheese. This had been one of her father’s favorite dishes and even though they weren’t Italian, they’d grown fond of this dish.

She loaded the filled cake pans into the oven and set the timer. She was about to leave when she heard a sound behind her. There at the doorway that lead to the outside she saw a man standing there. The sound she heard was him opening the door.

He looked at her with hatred in his eyes. He had a gun in his hand and he raised it slowly to point it at her.

“Who are you and what do you want here?” she asked quietly, not wanting anyone else to get involved and possibly get hurt or killed for her protection.

“Who I am doesn’t matter.” He snarled. “But the man in the other room does matter to me. Have him released and bring him here or you’ll die a painful death. You see he taught us well how to make sure of that.”

“I’m sure he did.” Grace nodded slowly. “But I won’t do what you want. That bastard deserves what he’s going to get. And I won’t put anyone else in danger just because you demand it. You can go to hell. And if you shoot me, you’ll never get out of here without a bullet in your head.” She shifted her stance and in doing so maneuvered to the table behind her. She knew exactly where the knife she’d used earlier was waiting. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she stared at the man in front of her.

“While it’s true, I may not get out of here, Vitya can go to his own death knowing you are dead by his order. That’s all that matters.” He spat out as his finger tightened on the trigger.<

She moved as she read the look in his eyes. He would have pulled the trigger in a heartbeat but she ducked and grabbing the knife, she threw it the way she’d been taught.

The sound of the gunshot echoed in the small room. Then his yell was strangled and he fell to his knees.

Grace didn’t look up as the door to the main room was thrown open violently and men rushed into the room.

Pavel grabbed the gun out of the dying man’s hands and kicked him backward.

The injured man fell back folding his legs beneath him and grabbed at the knife sticking out of his throat.

Pavel grabbed his hand and wouldn’t let him. “I wouldn’t do that unless you want to bleed to death faster than you already are.” He snarled at the other man.

Red rushed over to where Grace was crouched and pulled her up on her feet. He looked her over for any injury and he breathed deeply when he found none. “What the hell just happened?” he yelled at no one in particular.

Grace was deeply shaken and she wrapped herself around his waist. “He came out of nowhere. When he opened the door that’s when I noticed him. He told me he wanted Vitya freed and he told me before he left, he was going to kill me under Vitya’s orders.” She let out a shaky breath and went on, “I told him I wouldn’t do what he wanted as Vitya deserved everything he had coming. I wasn’t going to endanger anyone and I told him that. He was going to shoot me so I did what I had to do.”

“You did the right thing, although you should have called us in.” Red scolded her.

“I couldn’t put you or your men in danger.”

“This man broke into our club. We thought we were safe here. Someone dropped the ball and I intend to find out who let him get this far,” Red assured her. He bent down and hoisted her into his arms then walked out of the kitchen. His men would handle taking care of their unwelcomed visitor. As soon as they got to the main room, he set her back on her feet and walked over to where Vitya was sitting. He ripped off the towel and glared at the other man.

“Your last man just failed his mission, you lousy bastard.” He gritted his teeth. “He failed to kill my woman and for that he earned his own death at her hands. She defended herself and he’s dead while she is still alive. You are a lucky man that the Bratva wants you to stand trial because right now I want to tear the heart out of your chest and ram it down your throat.” He heard Vitya try to say something and Red ripped the gag out of his mouth.

“Fuck you and fuck her! I wish she had gotten killed. I could have gone to my death with the knowledge there wasn’t any trace of my slut of a sister left in this world.”

“Now you’ll go to your death knowing she’s alive and well,” Red roared. When Vitya would have said something else, Red shoved the gag back into his mouth and covered his head again. “You’ll go to hell knowing you failed your mission. You may have taken the life of a good man when you murdered Gene but you will not get to your sister’s child. Instead, she will live to a very old age in the arms of a man who will love her for the rest of her days.”

Vitya struggled against his bindings but he couldn’t get free.

Red went over to Grace. He took her in his arms and held her close.

“Will this nightmare ever end?” she whispered brokenly.

“The moment he dies is when it will be over,” Red assured her. “Don’t think about him for another moment, he doesn’t deserve any thoughts at all. His reign of terror is over.”

“I hope so,” she said while shivering.

He lifted her up in his arms and head to their bedroom. Slamming the door shut behind him, he carried her over to the bed. Laying her down carefully, he began removing her clothes. Then he removed his own clothes and joined her on the bed. “I will now make you forget what just happened.” He gave her a slow smiles as he settled down in her cradle and pushed his cock deep inside of her. She was slick enough to accept him without pain and he used that to build her up to the edge.

She gasped as he began to slowly fuck her. With each thrust, he pushed himself deeper and harder as he lost himself to their passion.

Grace wrapped her legs around him and urged him deeper. He filled her up like no other man ever would and she groaned at the feelings he invoked. She called out his name and let herself go. She exploded in a climax that tripped his own. She felt him fill her with his seed and that caused another climax from deep inside her.

Barron felt her go over the edge again and he smiled at the feeling of her clenching his cock. He groaned and yelled out her name when he came harder than he’d ever come before. When he collapsed on top of her, he was weak and when he would have pushed his way off, she tightened her legs around him. “Baby, I’m too heavy,” he protested.

“I know but right now, I need you to be right where you are. I love feeling you on me, skin to skin.”

“Well, I love where I am, so you’ll be feeling it a lot but I don’t want to crush you.”

Grace released her hold and Barron slipped to her side. “I’ll be right here beside you for the rest of our lives. I’m not leaving.”

“Ok.” Grace smiled as she snuggled closer.

Barron smiled then their interlude was disturbed by a knock on the door.

Barron groaned and pushed away from her. He grabbed his jeans and waited for her to get dressed again. Then he went to the door and opened it.

Leonid was there and they had a small conversation before he shut the door again. Turning toward her, he said, “Nikoli is here and he would like to talk to you.”

  Grace nodded.

Barron opened the door and taking her hand in his, together they walked down the hall into the main room. She noticed the extra men and looked up at Barron. He squeezed her hand, then nodded at the new man. “This is Nikoli Silvanic. He’ll be accompanying Vitya back to Russia for trial.”

Nikoli walked over to her and taking her hand, he told her, “I’m glad you survived the last few days. And I want to thank you for your bravery in bringing this to our attention. I understand the odds were against you from the beginning but now that we know about him, we will shut down his empire. He and the men he’s working with will be stopped. And we will not stop until we get all the women back that he’s abused in his lifetime.”

Grace nodded. “I hope you can find them all.”

Nikoli let go of her hand. “I have to ask you something and I realize this is going to be a touchy question, but I do need an answer. We froze all your family’s accounts but there is a lot of money in those accounts. That money belongs to you now.”

Grace took a step backward and tried to escape Barron’s hold.

But Barron wouldn’t let her go. Instead, he held her to his side. “You need to listen to what he has to say.”

Nikoli nodded. “We have a solution to this if you agree. We will take the money from his accounts and use it to set up a center for the recovered women. They will need counseling and other help and we’d like to offer them that.”

Grace swallowed hard and closed her eyes briefly. “Do whatever you want with the money. I don’t want it. It’s dirty money, money he made selling these women. I hope you can find everyone who did his bidding and I hope you nail them to the wall but I want nothing at all from his family.”

“They are your family as well,” Nikoli insisted.

“No.” Grace opened her eyes and glared at Nikoli. “Gene was my family, my father and I’ve never met the woman who gave me birth but the Konovic family has never been mine.” She glanced at Barron then back to Nikoli. “I have a new family now and that’s all I need.”

Nikoli smiled as he looked between them. “That’s good enough for me.”

Suddenly, the kitchen door was opened and several trays of lasagna were carried in to feed the men. No one gave a thought to feeding Vitya and that suited Grace just fine.

After they ate, Barron gave her a wink as he ignored everyone else in the room to carry her back to their bedroom and close the door on the rest of the world.
