by M K Farrar

DESPERATION CAN DRIVE a person to do the unthinkable...

When a burning body is discovered on an East London canal path, DI Erica Swift and her Violent Crimes Taskforce are called to investigate. With the extreme level of incineration, it’s impossible to identify the victim, and Erica has to follow the evidence to track down the killer.

The bodies start to pile up, and questions remain unanswered.

Why is a high-profile politician mixed up with people she shouldn’t be? What risks will a desperate mother take to better her family’s life, only to end up in her worse nightmare?

Together with an unexpected promotion landing in her lap, Erica finds herself on the most challenging case of her career.

  Acknowledgements

It’s been a weird time, writing this book during a pandemic. There were some days when I felt I couldn’t write at all, and others where it was all I wanted to do. I’ve had to juggle getting the words down in between home schooling my three daughters, so my first thanks needs to go to my husband for taking them out during the afternoons so I could get some work done. Amid much protesting on their part, and with a little bribery, he still managed to scrape me a few hours of peace so I could write.

Thank you, as always, to my editor, Emmy Ellis, for picking up on my mistakes—as much as I come to hate that little highlighter by the end of it.

Thanks to Patrick O’Donnell, who runs the Cops and Writers facebook group, and who consults with me on the aspects of police procedural for this series. I feel so much more confident with my books after you’ve given me your thoughts

Thank you to my proofreaders, Tammy Payne, Jacqueline Beard, and Glynis Elliott for sparing my blushes. I swear typos insert themselves into books once they’re done.

And as always, a huge shout of thanks to you, the reader, for continuing to read my Erica Swift books. I hope you enjoyed this latest instalment.

  Until next time!
