ABOUT THE AUTHOR
THE GOTHIC LINE is the final volume of Mark Zuehlke’s trilogy on Canada’s involvement in the World War II Italian Campaign. The first two volumes, Ortona: Canada’s Epic World War II Battle and The Liri Valley: Canada’s World War II Breakthrough to Rome, were published to wide critical acclaim both within military circles and without. With mapmaker C. Stuart Daniel, he co-authored The Canadian Military Atlas: The Nation’s Battlefields from the French and Indian Wars to Kosovo. His other books include The Gallant Cause: Canadians in the Spanish Civil War, 1936–1939 and Scoundrels, Dreamers, and Second Sons: British Remittance Men in the Canadian West.
Also a novelist, Zuehlke is the author of a popular mystery series based on the adventures of a coroner in the Pacific Coast town of Tofino. Hands Like Clouds and Carry Tiger to Mountain are the first two titles, with a third, Sweep Lotus, soon to be published. Hands Like Clouds won the 2000 Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel.
Zuehlke lives in Victoria, British Columbia, where, when not writing, he enjoys backpacking, cycling, kayaking, cooking Italian food, and gardening.
