I growled at her, biting her neck. Then I licked the spot I’d bitten. My hands were on her ass, squeezing the luscious mounds. My cock was pressing into her, like a heat seeking missile.
What it wanted was still under wraps though.
“Go turn the stove off.”
She nodded shakily and went to do what I asked.
Then I grabbed her hand and pulled her to the bedroom. In two seconds I had her pretty dress pooled around her feet. She stood there as I ran my hands up and down her body, wanting to touch everything at once.
“Lay down.”
I pulled my shirt off and climbed into the bed with Frannie. She was laying down, her eyes wide as she watched me approach. I still hadn’t kissed her yet.
I wanted her begging for it before I did.
I started at her neck and worked my way down her body, kissing and stroking her. I skipped her nipples, teasingly skimming past them. By the time my face was above her pussy, she was writhing beneath me.
I grinned, nipping her inner thigh.
My fingertips traced the outline of her panties and slid up and down her thighs. Then I slowly started up her body again. By the time I got to her face she was breathing heavily.
I held myself above her, not touching.
I stared at her lips before slowly lowering my mouth to hers.
She gasped as I kissed her lightly, pulling away almost as quickly.
Then I started again. This time I let my fingertips brush over her nipples. Once. Twice. Three times. Then I went lower. I could see her panties were getting wet.
“Fuck.”
I was supposed to be driving her insane, not the other way around.
I dipped my head, dragging my tongue down the line between her pussy lips. The cotton was mostly dry when I started. It was soaked through in less than a minute.
I chuckled at the sounds she was making.
Oh yeah, I was definitely getting in there tonight.
More than once I hoped.
The way I was feeling, I could fuck her five times at least.
I decided it was time to step up my game. I pulled her panties down, glancing up at her face briefly.
“Take your bra off.”
She reached behind her, unclasping her bra. Her gorgeous tits sprang free and I licked my lips. From where I was sitting, her pretty little pussy was front and center. I stared at the pouty little lips, then leaned forward and kissed them.
“Jace… oh!”
I smiled as I let my tongue travel all over her slit, up and down, teasing the soft petals. Then I pushed it inside.
Jesus Christ she was tight!
I tongue fucked her for a while, my hands reaching up to touch her nipples. I wanted her close, but not over the edge. This was not a game. I wanted in.
I felt her start to tense up and stopped, moving my face away from her sexy little box.
She whimpered, her hips twisting in need.
I smiled and started again.
Three times I stopped, keeping her on the edge for almost an hour.
Frannie was mindless now, her head tossing back and forth on the bedspread.
I stopped and stared down at her.
It was time.
Frannie
“I want to fuck you.”
I was in a daze as I lay on the bed. He wanted to fuck. Yes. That seemed like a good idea.
A very, very good idea.
“Yes.”
“Let me get a condom. Don’t move.”
He got up from the bed, kissing my neck.
I resisted the urge to reach out and drag him back to bed with me.
His phone dinged where it lay on the floor. It must have fallen out of his jeans.
I didn’t mean to look. I didn’t even touch the phone. But the message he’d gotten was clear as day. It was a picture. It was just there for half a second but that was all it took.
Shannon.
The blond from the track.
And she was naked.
I felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped all over me.
I felt nauseous suddenly. If he wasn’t involved with her how would she have his number? Why would she send him a picture like that?
I knew suddenly I’d been played for a fool.
Maybe this was all a joke.
It was too perfect.
He was too perfect.
I was going to wake up one day and everyone would be laughing at me.
Jace walked back in, his hands already undoing his pants. I grabbed a pillow, holding it in front of me.
“I think you should leave.”
“What?”
“I want you to go. Now.”
He was pretty obviously not expecting that. No, he was expecting to fuck the fat chick. Get off. Make fun of her.
Well, I wasn’t having it.
“Frannie…”
I stood up, walking around him. I gave him a wide berth. He still reached out for me but I ran away.
I ran all the way into the bathroom and locked the door.
He was standing outside the door in a second.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. But I want you to leave.”
“What the fuck, Frannie? Did I do something wrong?”
I didn’t say anything. I could feel tears clogging the back of my throat. I knew if I spoke he would hear it in my voice.
I turned the shower on so he wouldn’t hear it when I started to cry.
“Frannie.. Let me in.”
“No.”
I heard him curse. It sounded like he punched something. The wall maybe.
Then I heard him walk away.
The front door opened and closed.
I waited twenty minutes to make sure he was really gone.
Then I locked the door. I stumbled into my bedroom and curled up into a ball, crying.
I did the only thing I could do.
I called Nev.
Chapter Eleven
Jace
I couldn’t believe it. She had kicked me out. This was the worse fucking day of my miserable life.
Other than the day my mother had died.
But I barely remember that. I’d just been a kid. This day would be etched in my brain for all eternity.
I’d been right there. About to get what I wanted. More than I’d ever wanted anything in my entire life.
Frannie.
I took a sip and cursed. The fucking bottle was empty. I threw it across the shop floor.
“What the fuck man?”
Clyde shouted at me from by the open bay door.
“Did you bring it?”
He lifted a bottle in a brown bag.
“Yeah man. But you look like you’ve had enough already.”
“Blow me.”
“You aren’t my type.”
Clyde handed me the bottle of whiskey. I twisted the cap off and drank deeply. I handed it to him but he just shook his head.
“What’s going on Jace?”
“That fucking bitch.”
“The redhead?”
“No. She’s perfect. She’s an angel.”
He raised his eyebrows again. I could tell he thought I was insane.
I held up my phone, flipping it to the picture of Shannon.
“She texted me this when I was about to-“
I punched the wall I was leaning against. I looked at Clyde who was typing something into my phone.
“What are you doing?”
“Just sent it to myself.”
I almost laughed. Clyde always found a bright side to any situation.
“She fucking ruined it! Now Frannie won’t even talk to me. It’s been days.”
“You’ve been drunk since Monday so I can only assume…”
“Sunday.”
“Fuck Jace. She’s just a chick. You have lots of options in that department.”
I didn’t say anything. I just drank again.
“Like Shannon for example. I mean, that is
a prize winning piece of ass.”
“Fuck her. I want Frannie.”
“She’s under your skin, huh?”
I laughed but it sounded like screeching metal.
“That’s a fucking understatement.”
“What’s so great about her? A chick is a fucking chick man. Give me some of that.”
I handed over the bottle and slid down the wall to the floor.
“She’s different.”
He sat down next to me.
“How? Nice tits?”
I laughed again, this time it sounded almost human.
“She has fucking spectacular tits. But that’s not it. That’s just… a bonus. It’s her man. Not her body.”
“Holy shit Jace. You got it bad.”
He handed me back the bottle and I swallowed.
“You have no idea.”
I picked up my phone. It was late. Too late to call. But I could text her. I had already said everything I could. I had no other fucking options at this point. I had one last move.
Begging.
I typed out one word and hit send.
Please
Then I drank myself into oblivion.
Frannie
I stared at my phone. He was texting me again. It had been five days since I saw him.
Jace had texted me every day since then. Multiple times.
I was starting to think he was telling me the truth.
About the girl at least. I still wasn’t sure about the rest of it. Mostly the part about him wanting me. For real.
But I couldn’t dispute the facts.
He hadn’t been faking it when he kissed me.
He hadn’t seemed interested in Shannon at the track.
But none of that mattered.
My Gran was dying.
Gran was the only person who’d ever really loved me. Well, except Nev and her mom. And Clay treated me like an older brother now. But Gran was… she was everything.
I stretched my legs, wandering around Gran’s room at the nursing home. The steady beeping of the breathing equipment and heart monitors were the only sounds. It was so sad… that she had to be here and not home.
Home.
That was a joke.
Home was never a safe haven. Not since Gran had started losing her memory. My parents had shipped her off to this place without missing a beat.
‘Home’ was where I got yelled at. Criticized. Ignored.
For most of my life, I’d felt like a ghost, There, but not. Not counting. Not important.
Not loved.
It was sad but I’d almost thought I’d felt a little bit of that with Jace. I was an idiot obviously. Hot guys like that didn’t like girls like me.
Chubby, bookish, quiet girls like me.
But... He had seemed to like me. More than a little bit. A lot.
I sighed, grabbing some lotion to rub on the thin skin on Gran’s hands. She’d always been so proud of her hands. They were beautiful even now, with long tapered fingers and pretty oval shaped nails.
“Frannie?”
I turned to see Nevada standing in the doorway. My face crumpled as all the tears I’d been holding back started to fall. She was across the room and pulling me into her arms in two seconds flat.
“Oh honey. I’m so sorry.”
“Thank you for coming.”
“Don’t be silly. How is she doing?”
“They said she might pull through. I don’t know. She looks so frail…”
She leaned back, staring at me.
“Well, you look exhausted. How long have you been in here?”
I shrugged. I hadn’t left the room since I got here late last night.
“And I bet you drove all night.”
She tsk’d when I nodded. Then she hooked her arm into mine.
“Come on, we are getting you something to eat and some fresh air. Gran will be okay for a few minutes alone.”
I followed her meekly out of the nursing home. The sun hurt my eyes and I squinted. Nev handed me a pair of expensive looking sunglasses from her bag. I slid them on gratefully.
This was the town we’d grown up in and I didn’t want to run into anyone.
“Sammies?”
I nodded and Nevada took my arm again, propelling me down the side walk. I felt numb, like a robot. I said a quick thank you to God for my friend.
“I know you’ve been crying but you still look like a movie star.”
I laughed tiredly. It felt weird to laugh. But I knew Gran wouldn’t have wanted me to be sad.
“I do not.”
Nevada gave me her best side eye.
“You do. Trust me. Everyone is checking you out.”
We walked toward main street where our favorite deli was. People were looking at us. But I knew it was because I was with Nev.
My best friend was stunning. Not just beautiful. She was BEAUTIFUL.
The kind of girl that made other girls feel insecure. But she was so sweet that I’d never felt that way around her. Plus I’d seen her at her worst more than once.
Even sick with the flu though, she was stunning.
Inside and out.
“So….Tell me about the guy.”
“Jace.”
“Hmmm hmmm…. he sounds hot.”
“He is.”
“But?”
“I think I blew it.”
“What? Why?”
I shrugged.
“I may have over reacted to a naked picture on his phone.”
She stared at me.
“I would react to something like that on Clay’s phone. With a frying pan to the head.”
I laughed again.
“Yeah but I’m not engaged to the guy! I just met him.”
“But you like him?”
“Oh Nev. I do. I like him a lot.”
She leaned in and whispered in my ear.
“Did he… do things to you?”
I nodded, blushing. She nodded knowingly.
“We are way over due for a sleepover date, don’t you think?”
“Okay. But I’m staying with Gran until later.”
She patted my arm and walked into the deli.
“Of course you are sweetheart. Come on, let’s get you some egg salad on rye.”
I laughed.
She knew me so well.
Chapter Twelve
Jace
I stopped drinking long enough to show up for my shift at the city center. I’d already skipped Tuesday but after a week I figured I better get my shit together. I looked like hell but at least I wasn’t drunk. But when I got there, I wished I was.
There was no sign of Frannie.
Fuck, was she avoiding me here too? I’d been hoping to talk to her. Or take her out again.
I’d been hoping she would have cooled off enough to let me fuck her.
I sat down with a couple of kids and started working. She had to show up sooner or later. I fucking hoped so anyway.
When one of the other tutors walked by I asked. It was one of the older ladies that worked there full time. She told me that Frannie was gone. A family emergency.
They didn’t know when she’d be back.
It took some digging but within ten minutes I’d found out what had happened.
And I was done tutoring for the day.
I apologized to the kids and left, riding hell for leather to the shop. Frannie had gone home apparently. Her Grandmother was sick. Or worse. Dying maybe.
I had a terrible feeling that she’d driven all the way from Southern California up North where she grew up. I was not fucking amused. I told her over and over that her car wasn’t safe for anything other than toddling around on local streets.
It was not highway ready.
Visions of her mangled on the pavement, trapped in the crumpled car, or stuck on the side of the road flew through my head. The girl might be in trouble. Hurt. Dead.
God Damn it!
I strode into Flannery’s office and grabbed the key
s to his best racer. He raised his eyebrows at me. I just shook my head.
“I need to go to Sonoma. Now.”
“Seriously? You are going to miss all the races this weekend.”
“It’s Frannie.”
He lifted his hands.
“Okay man, you got it.”
I turned to leave.
“Oh and Jace?”
“What?”
“Don’t fuck this up. I like that girl.”
I nodded. I liked her too. More than that. What exactly I was feeling wasn’t clear to me. But at the moment whatever it was fucking sucked.
I slid into the car, pulling my phone out to message her.
If you drove that piece of shit all the way to Sonoma I am going to be pissed.
I leaned back in the seat, thinking for a second. Then I tapped out another note.
I’m coming for you Frannie. Get ready.
Then I drove off into the fucking sunset.
Frannie
I stared at my Gran’s face. Her eyes were open for the first time in days. Not only that, but she recognized me.
“She’s going to be okay.”
I nodded at the nurse who was checking Gran’s vitals.
“The infection is under control now. But she’s weak.”
She pulled me into the hallway.
“You need to prepare yourself. This sort of thing might become the norm. She’s not going to live forever.”
“Okay. Thank you for taking such good care of her.”
“You are a sweet girl. I know she wouldn’t want you to put your life on hold next time.
The nurse smiled and touched my shoulder. I sighed and walked back in to sit with Gran. I knew she was right.
“Do you want me to read to you?”
Gran shook her head. I could tell she was getting tired again. It was so good to see the old Gran present in her eyes.
“Maybe I’ll let you rest. I’ll come back tomorrow before I drive back.”
I kissed her soft cheek and left, grabbing my bag. It was hard to leave her. Hard knowing that she wouldn’t live forever.
But I was a big girl. I didn’t believe in fairy tale. This was real life after all.
My phone was dinging. It was muffled through my purse, so I hadn’t heard it earlier.
