“I need to make love to you,” he moaned into her neck as he pressed his manhood against her opening.

“Just do it already,” she moaned gripping his butt cheeks and pulling him forward.

He gasped as their bodies met and her hands and legs seemed to wrap around forcing him into a position that made her call out his name. He hung on for as long as he could but she was delicious in every way. Just as he felt himself reach his climax she reached hers, squeezing him on the inside and causing the most intense feelings. He was left breathless and sweat-soaked with arms that trembled under his weight.

“I love you,” he said and then flopped down beside her.

  Chapter 19 - Olivia

Olivia was speechless, breathless, and a whole other load of feelings that she didn’t know what to do with. Feeling like her soul had been bared with the fortune teller had brought up some strange emotions but mind-blowing sex had just cleared the slate. She felt complete contentment. She was naked, covered in a sheen of sweat that wasn’t entirely her own, and Kieran was stroking her like she was a cat. He was also looking at her like she was a princess which was something she could really get used to.

  “I’ve missed that,” she said.

“Me too, except I think that was way better than anything I’ve ever experienced before. Your pregnant body has been driving me wild for days and I must say, my dreams had nothing on the real thing,” he said placing a kiss on her stomach.

  “Yeah,” she sighed.

“Did you dream about me, naked?” He teased.

  “Oh yes,” she said grinning.

“That’s hot,” he said, and she enjoyed the new blush that washed over his skin.

“I also perved on you when you came out of the shower,” she said smiling sweetly.

“You are a devil woman,” he said and buried his face in her breasts.

“And you haven’t seen the new poster on my office wall yet,” she said laughing.

“Oh no, who do I have to compare myself to now?” he asked gazing up at her with sparkling jade eyes.

“Some sexy firefighter, all hard abs down to his happy trail,” she teased.

  “Not a movie star?”

“Nope, Louise thought he’d cheer up my wall,” she said smiling.

  “And does he?”

“His red hair does,” she said grabbing a handful of his messy curls.

“So, you only like me for my red hair,” he said.

“And your green eyes,” she said. “I hope the baby has your eyes.”

“I hope the baby has your hair,” he said.

“No, I love your hair. I hope the baby has red hair and a wild mouth like his father,” she said with enthusiasm.

“Let me show you more of this wild mouth,” he said and began tracing his tongue down her body.

  ****

Olivia sat in the waiting room fiddling with her pretty new engagement ring. Kieran had told her that he couldn’t let her be swayed by any more redheaded firefighters and just in case she met a superhero in the street, he needed to know that she was promised to him. She’d accepted but told him under no circumstances was she getting married while her stomach was the size of a whale. She had then put Chloe to work on designing a dress for when she got some semblance of a waist back.

Kieran hadn’t been able to get the time off to come to her scan but would bring pictures and he wouldn’t have too long to wait to see the baby now. They had the keys to the house, and he had cleaned it up so they could live in it. The rest of the work was filling his evenings and weekends while she put her feet up with the ever increasing tiredness that crept up on her.

When the receptionist called her in she stood up and waddled to the room. The summer was proving to be a hot one and her legs felt damp and sticky from having been sitting on a plastic chair for the last twenty minutes. Olivia was glad the doctor’s room was air-conditioned. She hoisted herself onto the bed and slid back while the doctor warmed the gel for the ultrasound.

“I bet you’re wondering why we asked for such a late scan?” The doctor asked.

“I wasn’t but I am now,” she replied looking at him over the huge expanse of stretched skin on her stomach.

“The general checks you had last week showed that you’re much bigger than expected,” he replied. “I just wanted to check the baby’s size.”

The memory of that moment behind the curtain at the fair came back into her mind and she wished Kieran was with her or even Chloe for that matter. She waited while the doctor covered her stomach with jelly and then moved the scanner around. Olivia could make nothing out on the screen apart from moving shapes. After a few minutes of silence, she couldn’t take it anymore.

“It’s twins isn’t it?” she asked.

“I believe so. It appears that we’ve missed one of these little ones on your other scans but I can see him now,” the doctor said smiling.

  “Him?”

“One of the babies is a boy but I can’t get the other one to turn around,” he said.

“I knew it,” she said and tears sprang from her eyes much to the doctor’s horror.

He passed her a tissue, and she glazed over while he took measurements and wrote notes on the computer. When he finally looked up, she had herself back to what passed as normal and was ready to deal with it. The doctor went on to explain that she needed more rest and would probably go into labor earlier than expected but was adamant that both babies look to be a healthy size.

She left feeling like she’d been drained of all her energy and there was no way she could walk the six blocks to her house. She called a cab and wondered if everything else the fortune teller had said would come true.

The house was looking better every day. The rose climber had been trimmed but was now in full bloom. The grass on either side of the path had been cut and the small porch had been tidied up with a lick of paint. The windows were clean, and the frames were painted, making the house have a more lived-in look. It had been a neglected and unloved house but it had become a much-loved home for three, soon to be five, people.

Chloe spent every spare minute in the workshop sewing, painting, and designing. She then divided her goods between her online shop and a few small boutiques who wanted handmade items. Olivia had grown close to the girl and admired her strength. She had spoken to the rest of their family via Skype and although they had greeted her kindly it hadn’t been as warm as she would have hoped. She got the feeling that it would be okay if they all went back to live there but they weren’t going anywhere with the babies due in just a few short weeks.

Her phoned beeped in her pocket and she pulled it out to find a text from Kieran. She read it and laughed.

Kieran: [Well, how’d it go? Xx]

Olivia: [Exactly how I expected it to go :-) xx]

Kieran: [Is that good? Give me a clue? X]

  Olivia: [Depends x]

Kieran: [Stop being cryptic, you’re killing me here!]

  Olivia: [We’re having a boy :-) xx]

  Kieran: [Really? That’s amazing! X]

Olivia: [And maybe a girl too xx]

  Kieran [Twins?]

  Olivia: [Yes :-)]

Kieran: [I need to sit down xx]

She laughed and let herself in. The fortune teller had described her Gran, the house she’d just bought, and Kieran. She’d given details that no one could have looked up and checked and now she’d predicted twins correctly.

Her Gran had believed in other worldly things but she had always given it a wide birth. With her parents gone and now her Gran, she had never wanted to know anything about the afterlife, if there was one, but something the fortune teller had said had frightened her and putting it on the back of her mind after the rest came true wasn’t working any longer.

Maybe it was time to tell Kieran what the woman had said or maybe that would worry him too much. She could carry that burden around and she couldn’t be right about everything. Olivia tried to remember the exact words she’d said, bu
t it was hard. It had been something about a loved one coming back to life. It had frightened her then, and it frightened her now.

She’d seen too much death to be able to go through it again and as for coming back, well that was just plain gory. Her parents and her Gran had been cremated. She just wished she could forget it but these things had a habit of sticking to the front of your mind.

Her size and shape soon made it difficult to do much of anything and she rarely made it into the shop. Her nights were filled with Kieran’s soft touch and crazy stories told in his soft lilting voice. He soothed her fears and her frayed nerves easing the pain she had begun to experience from having two babies fight for space within her. He was her rock, and she knew that if it weren’t for the babies she wouldn’t be in his arms every night.

  Chapter 20 - Olivia

She knew this was the day when she first woke up. Her back was aching, and the babies were strangely still which was enough to make her worry but when the pains began she immediately called Kieran. He was going to come home and take a cab with her because first labors were often long even if there were two babies. Chloe was with a client on the other side of the city and she couldn’t reach her so Olivia waited by the door with her bag and a bottle of water.

The pains were not as regular as she’d been told they would be so she wasn’t too worried until her water broke. A steady stream of red tinged water trickled onto the hardwood floor that had recently been polished.

The pain quickly intensified leaving such a short gap between each contraction that she could barely get her breath back. She called Kieran and got no answer so she did what she had to and called the cab. The operator realized quite quickly that she was in labor and barely able to speak but told her she would call an ambulance.

Olivia didn’t have time to panic because the pain narrowed her thoughts and all she could think of was getting to the hospital. She unlocked her front door for the ambulance and went to sit on the sofa. She hadn’t realized the pain would be so intense and come on so quickly. The thing that kept popping into her mind was the fortune teller’s prediction that one of her loved ones would die and come back to life. She rubbed her stomach praying for her babies to be strong.

When the ambulance crew stepped in, she was barely able to register their faces let alone what they were doing to her. The pain was totally encompassing, and she was thinking it would be her dying because surely no one could survive the ordeal? She vaguely registered being in the hospital but had very little awareness until she blacked out completely.

  ****

The drowsy feeling she felt before she fully woke up was bliss. It was a mellow little sanctuary where nothing could hurt you and she didn’t want to leave. She had no physical feelings and could have remained there forever in peaceful bliss.

It was a voice that rudely awakened her and once she’d heard it, she couldn’t drift back to sleep. She opened her eyes when a firm voice told her to do so and the blinding light was disorientating.

“Olivia,” Chloe’s voice made her turn her head, and she was shocked at the sight of the girl.

“My babies?” The events flooded back to her.

“They’re right here, safe and sound,” Chloe said smiling.

“Where’s Kieran?” she asked, her voice not much more than a whisper.

“He’s just getting patched up,” she said. “He got into a little accident because he was in a hurry to get here.”

“Is he okay?” Olivia asked dread filling her stomach.

“I think he wishes he wore underwear now but other than that he’s bruised and battered,” Chloe said sighing. “We’ve all been a little more worried about you. You had a uterine rupture and I can’t even say that without feeling faint but it’s okay now.”

“Can I ask you something?” Olivia said.

“Anything,” Chloe said fussing over a mewling baby.

  “Did I flat-line?”

“Apparently,” she replied looking up at Olivia. “How’d you know?”

“Damn fortune teller,” she hissed. “Can I see the babies now?”

“Sure, this one is a boy and guess who dressed him?” Chloe grinned and carefully placed a bright-eyed baby on her chest. “This little princess is a girl and I know I’m not supposed to have favorites but I’m gonna make so many outfits for her.”

Chloe’s singsong voice made both babies startle, and they wore the same expression on their cute little faces. They had creamy caramel skin with lots of soft black hair but she knew they would change hair color over the coming months and she wasn’t about to tell anyone but she desperately hoped for the ginger gene. They both had her almond eye shape and wide full lips.

“They are the prettiest kids ever and I’ve seen a lot of babies,” Chloe said kissing the baby she was holding on the nose.

“How’s my lovely family?” Kieran’s voice made her heart skip a beat.

“What the hell happened to you?” she asked after the initial shock had settled.

Kieran was wearing scrubs but his face and arms were covered in grazes and cuts. They all seemed fairly superficial if really, sore, and he wasn’t too pretty to look at and probably wouldn’t be for the next couple of weeks. She could only let her jaw drop as he leaned over and pressed a kiss to her face. His green eyes were sparkling and you wouldn’t have thought he’d just been steamrollered if it weren’t for his injuries.

“I was a bit excitable and got hit by a car but I’m all good,” he said turning around for her inspection. “My clothes snagged on the bus shelter and I managed to flash seventy-five percent of my naked white body to a whole line of passengers who were polite enough to call for an ambulance, although, I’m sure they put videos on YouTube first. Remind me to look later.”

“You got hit by a car?”

“Only a bit,” he replied taking the girl baby from his sister’s arms. “It’s all superficial. I was worried I’d scare the babies but they seem to like me.”

“I’m sure we’ll all get used to your face,” she replied wincing.

“Oh, I have more bad news,” Kieran said gazing into his daughter’s eyes. “My mother is on her way over as we speak.”

  “What?” Chloe gasped.

  “What?” Olivia hissed.

  ****

Kieran’s mother arrived before Olivia was allowed to leave the hospital. Louise had spent the morning moving from one baby to another comparing slight differences that no one else could see. Kieran and Chloe went off to settle their mother in the house before she could descend on Olivia in full force. She’d left all but her youngest child with relatives back in Ireland and Olivia was glad because their small house couldn’t cope with a soccer team full of boys running through it.

Kieran’s miraculous escape from death had indeed been caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube and every time she had a moment of peace she played it. The majority of the hospital staff had seen it and everyone was fascinated by it.

Kieran had dashed from the sidewalk and into the path of an oncoming car, slid over the bonnet, tripped and been hit by another car. He seemed to float in mid-air for a while before face-planting on the other sidewalk and hitting a bus shelter full of very surprised onlookers. His clothes had snagged and his bare butt was face up for the camera.

Olivia’s fiancé was fast becoming a star in his very own movie. The comments on the video were growing by the day. It was like she had her very own film star in real life. He might have been stupid enough to run in front of a car, or two cars to be precise, but he’d made it to her and the babies in near enough one piece. She couldn’t get over the look of determination on his face as he stepped off the sidewalk.

“Hi,” Drew said sticking his head around the door.

“Come in and see the babies,” Louise said.

Drew stepped in with a large frame in his hand and slowly spun it around to face her. She burst out laughing, startling the twins as they slept. Louise turned to face him and began laughing until her e
yes streamed. Drew had captured Kieran’s best pose as he flew over the taxi and blown it up to her regular poster size. He’d obviously cleaned the original image because it rivaled any action poster she’d seen from the movies.

“He’s a legend, Olivia,” Drew said. “I’ve had three made, but this one is the best. I put one up in the coffee shop already and people are flocking to see it.”

“It’s amazing,” Olivia said through tears of laughter.

“What’s amazing?” Kieran said stepping into the now full room. “Oh my God!”

“You’re a movie star,” Louise said before kissing the babies and leaving with Drew.

“I have a teeny little accident and everyone wants to laugh at me for eternity,” he said sighing dramatically. “But, maybe you can put that up next to the sexy blonde in the living room?”

“Thor? I was thinking we should relocate him to Chloe’s room,” she smiled as he reached down to kiss her.

  “What about Wolverine?”

“No chance, he stays,” she said. “You’re good but not that good.”

“I’m gonna have to try harder,” he whispered in her ear.

“You can start by changing your son's nappy,” she said.

“I wondered what that smell was,” he replied.

“I see I’ve arrived at the right time,” a loud Irish accent said.

Olivia turned to see a woman with auburn hair tied in a bun at the top of her head. She strode purposefully over to each baby, sniffed and then winked at Olivia.

“I see the boy’s made the biggest smell,” she said rolling up her sleeves.

“Olivia, meet my mother,” Kieran said.
