Doctor Steamy Page 7

  “Three a.m actually.”

  “Ah ha!” I said triumphant.

  “What are you suggesting, Mattie?”

I patted the bed beside me. “We could take a nap. You and I.” I lifted a shoulder. “If you like.”

When he didn’t say anything right away, I wondered if I’d overstepped. It wouldn’t be the first time. Sure, he’d agreed to be my dinner date next Sunday, but he was my doctor. He was probably just looking for a way to leave right now and here I was talking about slumber parties. I was starting to feel foolish when he suddenly dropped down beside me on the bed. His hand covered mine.

Squeezing my hand, he inched closer. “Is it okay if I kiss you?”

I closed my eyes, felt his hands around my face. Then his lips covered mine. Softy at first, then graduating to more intensity. Wild. Untamed. Like he’d not kissed a woman in forever. He claimed me with such greediness, it nearly robbed me of breath. When he finally extracted himself from my lips I said, “Wow. That’s some kiss.”

His lips curved into a smile. “Thanks. I’ve been wanting to do that since last night but of course...”

  “I know.”

“So it was a good kiss?”

“The best.” I wrapped my arms around his neck as heat shot through my body from the tips of my toes all the way to my hair follicles.

“You know I’m usually pretty awkward around women.”

  “Well that certainly wasn’t awkward.”

  “No?”

  “No. It was... amazing.”

His grin grew wider. “It feels...right with you.”

Oh God, I was falling and falling fast. Who was this guy and why did I find him so irresistible?

“I want you, Steven.” Slowly, I leaned back, dragging him down on top of me.

“I want you too,” he said, his eyes burning into mine.

“I have to ask you something before this goes any further.

  “Okay.”

“I’ve made a mistake before and I said I’d never do it again. How...? I mean, when was...? Oh my God, I don’t know how to say this.”

Grinning, he planted a soft kiss on the tip of my nose. “You want to know if I sleep around. If I’m clean.”

  “Yeah. Are you?”

“I was tested. Once. And it’s been awhile if that’s any comfort.” He tugged at the bottom of my shirt. “And you?”

“I...” We stared at each other for several minutes trying to decide whether anything was going to happen between us although he’d already dragged my shirt from my jeans, his palms rolling along my belly. My breath hitched when he cupped one of my breasts. “I was never tested I’m afraid but...” I rolled over, reached inside the drawer by the side of my bed. “I have these.” I showed him a handful of multi-colored condoms. “Name your poison.” I said with a laugh.

Steven laughed too. “Well, that’s one way to play it safe.”

“I’m a safety girl.” Lifting a shoulder, I considered all the wine I’d consumed less then twenty-four hours ago, my time at the bar, and what I’d done. Cripes, I hope I hadn’t said anything stupid to Steven. Like...Oh God, I slept with Kyle and we’d not used a condom! Kyle was no liar though and he told me everything. He’d used condoms with the few partners he’d had. Just not with me. If we’d been in my apartment, I would have had supplies, but noooo, stupid me had to go to Kyle’s place and seduce the so not expecting sexy best friend. No need to bring that up now though. “Well, mostly I’m safe,” I admitted.

“Good.” Large strong hands slid through my hair. He kissed me again and sharp tingles tickled along the back of my neck.

“Too many clothes, Mattie. I want to see you.”

  Yes!

Crossing my arms over my chest, I pulled my shirt over my head and shivered as the cool air hit my nipples. On reflex, I covered my breasts with my arms.

“No. I want to look,” Steven said. Gently, he lowered my arms. “Beautiful.” I’d never been told I was beautiful. Especially naked. I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about that.

“Now the pants,” he said. When I hesitated, biting my lip, he added, “please.”

Get a grip, woman. You’re the one who dragged him into your bed.

I wriggled out of my jeans watching Steven’s nostrils flare as he watched.

“Lovely,” he growled, filling his palms with my breasts. “Perfect mammary glands.”

I giggled. “Now there’s a romantic way to say boobs.”

“You know it’s French. From the language of love.”

  “Yes, I know.”

He covered one breast, suckled, then let it slide out of his mouth with a pop.

“Now you,” I said, helping him with his belt, the zipper, and taking out what I wanted. “Oh my,” I exclaimed. “Since we’re both technically doctors; I think it’s safe to say...that looks um...very healthy.” I moved him from hand to hand, loving how his warmth radiated to my fingertips, the skin pulled tight, ready to explode. Bending, I swiped my tongue over the tip catching the salted pre-cum on the inside of my cheek and a deep guttural groan rumbled in his chest.

I lifted my head up, gratified by the effect identified on his face.

“Most impressive, Doctor,” I said. “If one doctor goes inside another doctor, does that count as a second opinion?”

Steven barked out a laugh. “I’ll try not to break you.”

  “Do I need malpractice insurance?”

“I hope not. I’ll never do anything to hurt you, Mattie.”

“Famous last words from every man I’d ever dated,” I said.

  “You’ll see.”

I climbed on top, then slid over his perfect length while he held onto my breasts. Kneading and pinching, then rolling the nipples between his thumbs. It was almost more than I could take. “Oh god.” We started to move and the sensation was immediate. All the nerves inside my body fired at once. The depth. The friction. The glorious impaling on his cock as I took him deeper. Drove harder. Moved faster. Until I literally began screaming out my pleasure.

After he’d taken me higher than any man had ever taken me in my life, I kept thinking over and over to myself, this is what home feels like.

  Chapter 9

  Steven

What the hell was I doing in Mattie’s apartment?

From the moment I’d seized that long platinum hair, all I could think about was seeing her naked. Naked and writhing beneath me, screaming my name as she came apart for me. My cock had been hard the minute we got inside that ambulance.

  Totally unprofessional.

Yet there it was. Not sex. The connection I mean. Unfamiliar. That’s what this feeling was and I didn’t know what to do with it. Well I did, but beyond the physical, I was at a loss.

I loved listening to her. The enthusiasm in her voice when she told me about her decorating, how excited she was to find things at a bargain even though it was clear she had plenty of money. She loved books, volunteered at the local shelter serving food or teaching people to read. Seems Mattie had her fingers in so many pies she didn’t have time to play doctor. Except with me that is.

She smelled of sunshine and candy. I wanted to taste every inch of her, savor her sweetness on my tongue, let it linger on my skin so I could carry her around with me. Then do it all over again.

She doesn’t know the real you.

I feared I was in over my head and I hadn’t felt this out of my league since the day of my very first surgery and she was a patient for God’s sake.

This feeling. It went way beyond lust. I wanted to take her like some barbaric caveman and keep her in my lair. Keep her safe from all the evils of the world, especially men and I wasn’t a jealous guy, not even when I was married. How had she pushed her way into my heart so quickly?

She’d cried out as I entered her. Too rough. Too fast. I tried to stop but she pulled me in further, wrapped those long slim legs around my hips. Damn, she felt good.

“Please,” she said, clawing at my back. “Ha
rder. Faster. I need....Oh!”

“That’s it, baby. Let me love you the way you’re meant to be loved. Hang on tight, sweetheart.” I flipped her over so fast, she let out a startled “Oomph.” Now I was the one on top. Control. That’s what I needed. Total control. I got up on my knees taking her with me.

  “What are you...?”

“Shhhhh.” Carrying her on my cock, I carted her naked form over to a nearby chair. I sat down with her on my lap. “Feel my cock inside you, Mattie?”

  “Mmmm.”

“This reaches your erogenous zone more quickly. I’ll take you to the most dizzying heights you’ve ever felt in your life.”

  “Oh God.”

Hooking her knees inside my elbows so I could climb even deeper inside her swollen pussy, I bounced her up and down, probably hitting her eyeballs in the process. “Ah fuck, this is...This is...” I couldn’t think. Hell, I couldn’t even talk right now. My balls were on fire, my dick about to blow, exploding into so many damn pieces I was going to need a mop to find what was splattered all over the bedroom. The growl that formed on my lips was like nothing I’d ever heard before. Mattie wasn’t the only one exploding.

  It was me. All me.

The chair made a thumping sound as it bounced along the floor.

I didn’t get this way. Ever. Not even with my wife. This woman was destroying me and there was only one way to fight back. I needed to own her. Make her mine right now and to hell with whatever tomorrow brings. I wanted her to be sore and achy, to remember who it was that made her body sing and maybe just maybe she wouldn’t ask me to leave.

Mattie’s nails dug into my shoulders as she lifted, her wet slick folds sucking me back in and swallowing me up. I growled, swept that sexy blonde hair away from her neck and tried to kiss her. I missed. She was moving so fast, my lips grazed her skin.

Orgasmic. She was panting, then kissing me on the lips, then screaming so loud I wondered if any neighbors could hear us. Thrilled with my apparent expertise, which I’d actually garnered from reading medical journals, I slid my hips back, grabbed hold of both breasts while she did most of the work. When I rubbed my thumbs over her nipples, it sent her over the edge.

“Oh God.” The position was fantastic, the high I heard coming from Mattie an incredible arousal.

After sleeping for a full two hours, I wriggled out from beneath her sweet body and stood up; the condom literally fell off my dick. I stared at the shriveled mass by my feet, knowing I’d kept it on, inside that sweet pussy of hers much longer than I should have.

What was it they said in sex education class? My head was fuzzy and I couldn’t think straight. Not yet. I’d worry about the condom later.

  The next day

I dropped five quarters in the snack vending slot and listened to the soft thunk as a dark-chocolate Milky Way fell into the bottom of the machine. I dropped it in my lab coat right next to the apple I’d scoffed. I probably wouldn’t get a lunch break. Not with two Bi-passes, a stent placement and two heart valve repairs. I’d be lucky if I could take a piss with that busy schedule.

My thoughts returned to Mattie. I didn’t fall in love anymore and I certainly didn’t do it on the first date which was in the ER. Or was it in the ambulance ride over? This was not what they meant when they talked about doctor patient privilege was it? Did it matter that I wasn’t on duty? Not on your life. It was a dick move and I knew that but... I couldn’t seem to help myself.

My stomach growled. I unwrapped the chocolate bar. I took a huge chunk out of it. “Oh yeah,” I mumbled. “So good.” As I rule, I didn’t eat candy. It made my blood sugar drop but this was better than nothing I told myself. I took another bite, letting the sweet melted goodness simmer along my tongue too long. It drizzled into the corner of my lips. Lost in my own imagination, I found myself licking melted chocolate off my fingers in a very weird fashion and grinning like a fool while I daydreamed about Mattie. The sound of laughter alerted me to someone behind me.

“What are you doing?” asked Harvey, laughing hysterically. “It’s that blonde you brought in, isn’t it? You’re thinking about her.”

“Screw you,” I said, unable to keep the smile off my face. I tossed the crumpled candy wrapper in the trash.

“Wait. Look at me. You didn’t go and... Holy fuck! You did!”

“Did what? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I opened my locker, grabbed my stethoscope and draped it around my neck. I tossed a pen in my pocket.

“Well it’s about fucking time,” Harvey said. “Good for you.”

“Keep your voice down,” I said, even though I knew we were alone. That last thing I needed was hospital gossip. As it was, the topic of my love life, or absence of one, made for constant conversation among the nurses it seemed. I didn’t understand why. I’d never said or done anything inappropriate.

I wasn’t supposed to know, but it didn’t take a genius to figure out nurses standing around giggling and then abruptly stopping when I came down the hall meant they were discussing something they didn’t want me to know and then of course Eileen had spilled the beans to Mattie. It was no wonder I didn’t date.

“What are you doing here anyway? I thought you had today off.”

“Didn’t you hear? Oh wait, you were too busy getting your groove on with a certain hot blonde last night. Anyhow, there’s a meeting this morning. In the boardroom.”

“Shit! Why didn’t I...? Never-mind.” I reopened my locker, took off my lab coat, slipped my scrub shirt off, and started to change into a white dress-shirt.”

Harvey grabbed my arm. “Cool off Mr. Workaholic. It’s not that kind of meeting and it’s in the Main board room. You know the one downstairs next to the cafeteria.”

“So what’s the meeting all about?”

“It’s about MSF. I’m thinking of joining. You wanna come?”

“No.” MSF was Doctors Without Borders, an organization that worked all over the world, mostly in the clinics of third-world countries. I admired the doctors who came back from some of those places—they were fantastic as second-opinion Consults because they could think outside the box. It wasn’t for me though. I was needed here.

I placed the white shirt I was holding back on the hanger in my locker and slid my crumpled scrub top back over my head.

Harvey blinked owlishly. “Seriously? This is right up your alley, Steve. You can get your hands really dirty. Work with real emergencies. No more little old ladies complaining about their gout or teenage pregnancies. Oh wait. Probably plenty of the later.”

He was right. As a surgeon, my patients were usually asleep. These days the Hospitalist and nurses took care of everything related to the surgery so I didn’t have as much hands-on patient care. Pre-Op. Post-Op. Patient complaints. All of it. I didn’t even know what color my patients’ eyes were most days. It could be boring as hell, so I volunteered in the ER just so I could have more one-on-one with patients. I found that I loved it.

Harvey adjusted his tie and tucked in his shirt. He bought a coffee from the vending machine.

“So you’re actually considering this,” I said, a little surprised.

Harvey was kind of a playboy, which in some regards, may have helped make him the best PEDs doctor in the whole state. Either that or no woman was dumb enough to compete with his real job. He was just as much a workaholic as I was, sometimes more so. He dumped five sugar packets into his coffee.

“Five? Really? That shit will kill you. You know that, don’t you?”

  “You should talk.”

  “What?”

“I saw you with that candy bar.”

“I had an excuse. I missed breakfast.”

“Uh huh.” He gave me an accusing stare.

“So apparently a bunch of kids were hit by sniper fire over in Yemen. They need a pediatrician.” He shrugged. “I got nothing else to do,” he said.

I nodded, truly impressed with his dedication and wishing I had the guts to do what he was about to do.
The truth was I was very happy with what I was doing. Sort of. “Well, I have rounds,” I said, as if I were making an excuse not to join him at the meeting.

“Right. Well, I’m late.” And that was that. Sounded as if Harvey had already made up his mind. It would be hell trying to replace him. Even temporarily. I closed my locker, grabbed my stethoscope once again and headed out the door.

I stepped onto the elevator, intending to ride up to the Cardiac Wing when I hit the button for ICU instead, anxious to check on the battered mother first. Two nurses, one redhead and one brunette, joined me.

“Ladies,” I said, tipping my imaginary hat.

“Oh hi, Doctor Russo. How are you?”

  “Can’t complain. Which floor?”

  “ICU,” said the redhead.

“Same here. Either of you happen to know how the young woman who was expecting is doing?” I asked. “She came in last night. Was badly beaten.”

  “Nope,” said the redhead.

“I was here when they brought her in,” said the brunette. “She was in pretty bad shape. I never saw anyone look that bad. Damn, it made me angry.”

“Me too,” I admitted trying to remain professional in my comments.

“They had her sedated as of midnight when I left, and I think they got the bleeding under control.”

  “That’s good news,” I said.

“Asshole husband of hers won’t leave her side.”

“Have they arrested the husband? I heard it was a slam dunk for the cops.”

“Don’t know,” said the brunette. “Maybe she has to press charges and since she’s comatose...”

The elevator doors slid open with a whoosh. “Right. Hey, do me a favor. Go see if the husband is still there, will you?”

“Sure thing, Doctor Russo. He better not be because I’m in just the mood!”

  So aren’t we all.

A few minutes later, the redhead returned. She told me the husband left for a few hours so he could get some rest.

“Thanks,” I said. Then I made a phone call. After requesting a police-officer stand guard outside the women’s room, at my expense, and hoping it would deter the husband from hanging around, I consulted with the intern stationed in ICU as well as the whole nursing staff. After finding out the woman had indeed lost her baby during the night, I insisted that they call me if her condition changed. If I could be of any help, I wanted to be there. Two doctors were better than one, right?
