“Aww, I love you, dear boy.”
“I love you, too, Momma.” The little boy wrapped his arms around her neck and hugged her tight, pressing his chubby, soft cheek against hers. She grinned at Ben, whose eyes were taking it all in lovingly.
Nan turned to walk with them to the house, her heart thumping in anticipation of what was about to happen. She pressed her lips together and tried to control her breathing. If she looked too excited, one of them was bound to notice. Especially Nicholas, who was keenly intuitive, kind of like Carrie.
Nan went up on the porch first, lowering Nicholas so he could walk on his own. She reached out and pulled the door open. Nicholas ran through.
He shrieked with delight when he saw all their friends around the table. He spun around, his wide blue eyes staring at his mother.
“What’s this, Ma? Is it my birthday?”
Nan laughed, looking up at Ben, whose curious eyes were taking in everyone in the room.
“No. Come on in, Ben. I invited everyone here to tell you something. Something exciting is going to happen. Very soon.” She had her eyes on Nicholas. He had moved to Carrie, who picked him up and put him on her lap.
Nan wrapped one arm around Ben’s waist and rested her hand flat on his chest, pressing herself against his side.
“I want you all to know. I just found out, so I haven’t really been keeping it from anyone.” She looked up at Ben with loving eyes. “I wanted to tell you first, Ben. So I’m telling you first. We’re going to have a baby.”
She could see the shock register on Ben’s face, replaced quickly by delighted joy. His smile stretched from ear to ear. She could hear everyone in the room behind her cheering and yelling out their congratulations. She could hear the sound of her son asking Carrie what that meant, was he going to have a brother or a sister, was momma going to be okay.
She heard it all. Yet all she felt was the love she had for her husband, her son and the little baby growing inside her.
God had blessed her after her tragedy. He had given her love and comfort. He had provided a father for her baby and a husband to comfort and protect her.
“That is such wonderful news, honey,” Ben said softly, leaning down to kiss her cheek. “We are adding to our family. I love you, my dear. I love you so much.”
“I love you, Ben. God meant for us to be together. After what we went through, I know it’s true.”
He wrapped his arms around her and held her close to him. She closed her eyes, holding back the tears of love and joy that rose up inside her.
“I love you,” she whispered again, listening to the sound of his heartbeat pounding rapidly in his chest.
“I love you, too, Nan Connelly. My beautiful wife.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Elliee Atkinson spins out American historical western romance stories for readers that appreciate the romance that happened in the Old Wild West.
Elliee loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance “Wild Montana Sky” by Debra Holland was inspired by the story perseverance and determination of the women from the wild west and how they overcome adversaries, fight for the love they deserved and desired.
Many of her stories are based on her knowledge of the old west, although all the names, events, and places that may resemble or are similar to living people are only coincidental and fiction, of course.
Elliee credits her wonderfully supportive partner and friend, Steven and her advance review reviewers for helping her to fine-tune her writing skills and allowing her creativity to explode.
