She carefully eased herself out of her man sandwich without waking them. She spotted her bag in the corner of the room and grabbed it as she slipped into the main part of the cabin.
Ranger thumped his tail at her so she let him outside and then took care of her needs. So much for my sexy nightie, she thought as she pulled on her jeans and T-shirt. She found the coffeemaker, and as soon as it was ready, poured herself a cup and headed onto the porch.
The morning was beautiful, the lake like glass and the sun casting a glow over the dark trees. It was rather cool, and there was a mist at the edges of the lake. Ranger roamed at the shore, breaking through the mist in places, adding an almost ghostly presence. It made it all seem a bit unreal.
In fact, last night seemed a bit unreal as well. Or it would, if her pussy and ass weren’t a bit tender. Cailynn reflected on the events of the night. She asked herself if she was really upset that she had amazing sex with two men. Or was she just telling herself that she should be upset because that’s what mainstream society would say? She was pretty sure it was the latter.
If she was really honest with herself, she loved both of the Harris men. They had given her no reason to think that they weren’t a package deal and expected a threesome as long as they were together. The ménage wasn’t really the issue when she thought it through. The issue was whether or not they truly meant for this to be permanent and whether they would stick around and not get tired of her.
Leaving was always the real fear. Her father had left when he tired of her mother. All her mother’s subsequent lovers had left. Even though her mom seemed to focus more on her lovers than her daughter, the men still left. Most men seemed to want a good time for a while, then move on to someone new. Cailynn’s first boyfriend had dumped her as soon as he fucked her. Even though technically she had left Martin, their relationship had been over for a long time. She knew he was cheating on her and just using her for money but she just hadn’t wanted to admit it.
Cailynn thought the only thing to do was to enjoy the relationship while it lasted and try not to give them all of her heart. Just so she would have a little left when the rest broke into pieces when they split up. I’m a big girl. I can handle it when it’s over.
The door to the cabin suddenly crashed open, and Cailynn jumped, dropping her mug and spilling coffee. She turned to catch an eyeful of two naked men pushing through the door.
“Where the hell did you go?” shouted Dan. He was frowning at her, as was Andrew.
“Nowhere,” said Cailynn defensively. “I was just drinking my coffee on the porch since it’s so beautiful out here.” She was frowning now, too. Why the hell are they so upset?
Andrew’s frown eased, and he laughed a little. “It’s okay, love. We were a little concerned when we woke up and you were gone. Dan’s just pissy because he was trying to snuggle with me, not you.”
Cailynn giggled at the image. “Sorry, I had to use the bathroom and you were both sleeping so peacefully.”
“Not funny,” Dan growled. “I have no desire to snuggle my brother. That is not a nice way to wake up.”
“Next time I’ll put a pillow between you two,” Cailynn extemporized.
Dan smiled. “Then there will be a next time.” He purred as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “Good news.”
“Yes, lovely,” said Andrew with a little irritation in his voice still. “Now let’s get some breakfast. Though I almost lost my appetite when I looked over in bed and saw Dan, not you, love.”
“Maybe you should get dressed,” Cailynn pointed out as they went back into the cabin.
“Maybe you should get undressed,” Dan retorted as his hands roamed over her breasts.
In the end, the men dressed and made breakfast. As Andrew pointed out, hot, splattering bacon grease was not fun to get on certain parts of the anatomy, so clothes were a practical necessity.
They lazed around the cabin for the morning, drinking coffee, talking, and laughing. The day remained cool and misty so they didn’t get out on the lake again. Ranger enjoyed himself chasing squirrels, swimming, and mooching bits of breakfast.
Cailynn was happy. She felt loved and pampered, and she was completely relaxed. She could see the appeal of having a cabin that had the comforts of home but none of the distractions. It was a wonderful place to spend the weekend. She was reluctant to leave when the time came to head back to town.
“Stay tonight with us.” Dan nuzzled her neck as he asked her.
“I can’t. I don’t have clothes for work with me,” Cailynn replied.
“We can pick some up. Please, stay with us. I want to go to sleep with you and wake up with you again.”
Cailynn didn’t really want to say no. She wanted to sleep and wake with the men again, too. “All right,” she whispered.
Andrew smiled at Dan. They both wanted her to spend at least one more night with them but thought she would balk. He wondered how fast they could get her to move in with them. Andrew smiled again as he thought of her living with them. He and Dan could get her to decorate the place the way she liked and they could buy her more clothes Well actually, what Andrew really wanted to do was buy her more lingerie. They wanted to care for her and look after all her needs.
Chapter 12
Cailynn insisted on having her own car to take to work in the morning. She wasn’t ready to have Andrew or Dan look after driving her everywhere. After spending Sunday night at the Harris’s, she needed to return to her own apartment Monday night.
Andrew had made love to her on Sunday night before Dan came to bed. He took his time, working her over slowly. He licked and nipped his way from her toes to her temple and everywhere in between. She came hard on his tongue, and then he lay on his back and pulled her on top of him. He made her ride him, gently forcing her to take control of both their pleasure. She brought him to climax first and was proud that she had done so. Her own orgasm followed swiftly and the pleasure of it took her breath away.
Dan accosted her in the shower on Monday morning. He snuck in behind her and made her jump when he wrapped his arms around her waist. He took the showerhead on the hose and used the massage setting to great effect on her body. He made her come with the pulsating water and then braced her against the wall. He entered her swiftly and fucked her hard. She loved it. Her body raced to a blistering climax that had her screaming. Afterward, he washed every part of her, almost making them late for work.
Both men had played her body expertly It was a little hard to concentrate at work, thanks to her mind drifting to memories of the weekend. She was pretty sure that Lisa, Hanna, and Sharon noted the silly smile on her face, but they didn’t tease her about it.
Cailynn was covering the front desk at lunch for Lisa when Martin called.
“Well, well, well,” he said in his typical condescending tone. “It wasn’t completely easy to track you down in the boonies.”
How the hell did he find me? Cailynn started to panic, and then she summoned up the inner strength she used when she had left him and said as calmly as she could manage, “It is not appropriate for you to be contacting me at work. Our relationship is over and you need to move on. I have nothing to say to you, nor should you have anything to say to me.”
“Really? This from the bitch that left me high and dry with no place to live?” Martin asked angrily.
“You had two weeks of free rent to find somewhere else to live,” Cailynn pointed out. “I am working and cannot continue this conversation.”
“Well you better find the time to, because you owe me. I need some cash and you had better pay up or I’ll start making life in that hick town miserable for you,” he threatened.
Panic started to take hold of Cailynn. “I owe you nothing and now I need to return to my job,” she said shakily and hung up.
Lisa had come back while she was on the phone. “That didn’t sound good. What’s up, honey?” she asked quietly.
“Um.” Cailynn’s voice was higher pitched than normal. “
It’s my ex. He’s being an ass, but don’t worry, I can handle him.” Cailynn was worried that he would start causing trouble either in town or at the clinic, enough that she could be fired. She knew from experience that he could be mean and vindictive when he was riled up. In the past he would scream vile put-downs at her. Or he would destroy something of hers like a book or clothes. Once he got so mad he pushed her and she fell over the coffee table and hit her head.
“Are you sure? You know we’ve got your back. If there’s anything you need help with, you know you have friends here.” Lisa was watching her closely, concern written on her face and in her voice.
“No, really, it’s okay. I should go and do the treatments on Mr. Ashcroft’s dog.” Cailynn escaped Lisa’s gentle enquiry and headed to the treatment area. She quickly drew up the medication she needed and headed to the kennel housing Jack Ashcroft. The elderly little dachshund had a kidney infection, but the antibiotics and fluids were helping. Dr. Dunlop was talking about sending him home tomorrow. Cailynn checked his IV and started giving the medication through it, while talking nonsense to Jack and rubbing his belly.
“Jack’s lucky to have you looking after him.” Lisa had followed Cailynn into the kennel room.
“He’s a nice boy. I’m glad he’s getting better.” Cailynn smiled at the dog and at Lisa.
“Yeah, Mr. Ashcroft would be pretty lonely without him. But he still has a lot of friends around who would help him if he ever lost Jack. Just like you have a lot of friends who would help you,” Lisa said pointedly.
“Please, Lisa, it’s okay,” Cailynn begged her to let it go. “He just wants to upset me. He won’t come here and make trouble, but he might try phone harassing me. I just don’t want to have him make Dr. Dunlop or Dr. Webb angry.” At least I hope he won’t come here, she thought.
Lisa sighed. “All right, have it your way for now. But don’t think I won’t be keeping an eye on you. And don’t think that the people here will stand for any crap he tries to fling in your direction.”
“Thanks, Lisa, but it will be fine.” Cailynn was going along with Lisa so she would drop the whole issue. “I know where you are if I need help.”
Lisa wasn’t fooled. “Yeah, you do. But I’m still watching you.” She gave a little huff and frowned as she headed out to the front desk.
Cailynn gave Jack a few more pets and snuggles because he was a great dog, and to give herself a minute or two to compose herself. She was worried about what Martin might do, but she reminded herself that he was pretty lazy. Would he really expend the effort to come all the way to Hardwick Bay? She could see him trying to get her to send him money, but the effort of collecting it himself would be too much. If she could make him understand that she was not going to converse with him on the phone, he might go away. Satisfied with her rationalization, she tried to put him out of her mind and get on with the day.
Martin called the clinic a few more times that week. When Lisa or Hanna answered the phone, they shut him down immediately. If Cailynn answered, she reiterated that she had nothing to say and hung up. He seemed to give up pretty quickly, and Cailynn felt her assessment of the amount of effort he was willing to put into trying to extort money from her was correct.
Cailynn kind of forgot about Martin as the week went on. The clinic was busy and she was happy working hard to keep up with Dr. Dunlop. There seemed to be a never-ending stream of lab work to run, radiographs to take, and sick patients to medicate. She didn’t know how Sharon kept them all straight sometimes.
She didn’t tell Andrew or Dan about Martin’s calls. Part of her knew they would be angry that she kept it to herself. That same part realized they wanted to care for her. She just couldn’t bring herself to go whining to them about Martin when she was pretty sure he was just going to give up anyway. She decided that crying to the Harris brothers about something that wasn’t likely to happen was more than her pride could take. She knew that in the end she had to rely on herself.
Andrew and Dan asked her to spend more time at their house that week. Cailynn wasn’t quite ready for that. She was still too fond of her independence to give it up completely, but she did consent to spend the weekend with them again. She was off on Saturday, so she went to their house on Friday night.
They really didn’t have anything special planned for the weekend, just hanging around together. They had a barbeque on Friday night and watched a movie, snuggling together on the couch. Saturday was beautiful, sunny, and warm, but Dan got called for a computer issue at one of the businesses he did IT work for and had to leave. Cailynn and Andrew took Ranger for a hike, and then Andrew fucked her senseless in the big bed in the master suite. Dan arrived home just in time for Cailynn to serve the lasagna she had made for dinner. Andrew retired to work in his office for a couple of hours while Dan had some time with her in bed. She was so exhausted by the time Andrew came to bed, she barely noticed him settling in beside her and Dan.
Sunday’s weather was somewhat gloomy, so their plan of taking the boat out on the bay was shelved. Andrew and Dan took her to breakfast at The Cottage. There were mostly locals at the diner, and it seemed to Cailynn that the men were making it obvious that she belonged to both of them. They were both touching her as they sat in the curved booth together, and they fed her bits from their breakfast. More than one person in the diner was watching, but they were all smiling.
Cailynn looked around at the people in the diner with a new perspective. The diversity of Hardwick Bay became obvious. She saw several same-sex couples that she knew from work and they were not hiding their affection for each other.
There were also what appeared to be two ménage families as well. Two men and a woman sat in the corner. They appeared to be a little older than Cailynn’s mom. At a large table near the window were two men and a woman with their twin girls.
The older ménage trio stopped by their table on their way out.
“Hello, Andrew, Dan,” the woman said kindly. “And you must be Cailynn. Lisa’s told us about you.”
“Hello,” Cailynn said shyly.
“I’m Lisa’s mother-in-law, Abby. These are my husbands, Wayne and Roger.” She gestured to each of the men as she introduced them. They greeted Cailynn warmly as well then started to talk quietly to Andrew and Dan.
“It’s nice to meet you. Lisa’s told me how glad she is to have you as family.” Cailynn couldn’t help but immediately like this woman with the warm smile and twinkle in her eye.
“Lisa’s such a sweet daughter. We couldn’t have asked for better,” Abby said pleasantly. “We won’t keep you from your breakfast, but I did want to say hello. And to welcome you to Hardwick Bay. It’s always nice to have another open-minded person come to live here.”
They made polite good-byes to each other. Cailynn didn’t miss the veiled reference to her acceptance of ménage. It made her feel a little more comfortable with the Harris’s public attentions knowing that she was approved not censured for her relationship.
Andrew looked at his brother and Cailynn and was happy. He saw Cailynn noting the looks from the diner’s patrons, but she was relaxed and content with the two men by her side. Dan was generally a cheerful, happy-go-lucky kind of guy, but Cailynn was bringing out his other qualities—Dan was more responsible around her, watching for her comfort and safety. Andrew knew he, himself, was more relaxed around Cailynn, and more settled. He was a little more content to let things happen rather than plan obsessively. They were all good for each other, he thought.
Cailynn finally felt comfortable as well. She had been tense all week thanks to Martin’s calls. When she was home in the evenings, she couldn’t help but be worried that he would call her on her cell or find her apartment. When she was with her men, she felt safe. Which was a bit paradoxical since she hadn’t told them anything about Martin, really. She felt the occasional flash of guilt that she hadn’t really talked to them about her past relationships, and how her past colored the way she saw their future. She tried to justify it b
y telling herself that she was leaving the past in the past, but she knew that wasn’t really the whole truth. It doesn’t matter, she thought. They don’t really need to know all the stupid details.
The feeling of security with her men stemmed more from the way they had treated her from the start. They always made it clear to her that she was cared for. Whether it was carrying a backpack on a hike, helping her into the boat, or making sure she had what she needed for whatever she was doing, they always made her feel like she was looked after. Somehow, she couldn’t imagine them standing by and doing nothing if they knew Martin was making any kind of trouble for her.
Chapter 13
The next Thursday, Cailynn was working at the front desk first thing in the morning, answering calls and checking in patients. Lisa was a bit late, as she had a dentist appointment.
“Hey, sweetie, can I drop Ranger off at the clinic so that Sharon can look at his foot?” Dan’s voice on the phone sounded worried.
“Of course,” Cailynn replied immediately. “What’s up with it?”
“He’s a bit lame this morning, and it looks like there’s a cut or something on one of his pads. It’s the right front. I don’t know what happened. He was fine yesterday, but he’s lame today.”
“I’ll make sure she has time to look at it this morning. You’re setting up the system at that store in Port Seguin today aren’t you?” Cailynn asked.
“Yeah, otherwise I’d book an appointment and come with him myself.” Dan felt guilty that he couldn’t get there with Ranger himself during the day.
“It’s not a problem. Why don’t you leave him here for the day and I’ll bring him to your place tonight after work?” Cailynn reassured Dan. “I know Andrew’s buried in papers today, too. Ranger can spend the day in one of the outdoor runs, since it’s so nice out. Then you don’t have to worry about getting here before the clinic closes.”
