You Again

Page 23

by Ashlee Mallory

“You go ahead,” he said and shifted his stance with a grimace. “I’ll just be a minute.”

She laughed and touched his handsome face, twisted into a wry smile. “Take all the time you need,” she said and opened the door to slip out.

“Allie.” His voice stopped her, and she turned to look at him again. He was grinning. “Your bra is undone.”

And with the steady hand of a girl who’d watched Flashdance more than once, she slid the straps off her shoulders and, as he watched, hypnotized, pulled it from the front of her dress and handed it to him.

  He wasn’t grinning anymore.

“Better?” she asked and waggled her brows as he gulped.

“Better than I’d ever hoped for,” he whispered.

Excitement and happiness flared in her belly. She turned to go, then paused. Whirling back around, she sent him her brightest smile. “And Sam? I love you, too.”

His lips crooked into a lopsided smile. “Of course you do.”

Exhilarated at the prospect of an incredible future with an even more incredible man, she went out to face her family’s inquisitive gazes.

Molly was certainly going to love this one.

But not nearly as much as she did.

  Acknowledgments

Big thanks to my fabulous assistant editor, Stephen Morgan, whose suggestions and tireless review of my story throughout the editing process deserves chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Or, at least, chocolate power bars. Also thanks to senior editor Nina Bruhns for cutting those darlings and giving the story the final polish it needed.

  About the Author

Surrounded by majestic mountains in her hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ashlee lives with her husband, two kids, a dog, and cat.

Her first story, As The Nostrils Flare, was a joint venture with her best friend and was quite funny—or so they thought. Her next endeavor was a sort of ode to Victoria Holt, and was fraught with suspense and terror (okay, and maybe on the wrong side of melodramatic).

Today, she writes boring legal stuff for the day job, but then gets to immerse herself in stories of love, life, and the occasional murder.

And when they discover Sylvie’s stalker may be linked to Tony’s own investigation, what started as a simple plan to find his friend’s killers turns into a hot bed of secrets and revelations.
