“Nia, I’m so glad you called,” Aleena exclaimed breathlessly from running. “I was wondering how everything was going. I wanted to call, but daddy told me to leave you alone so you and Travis could make up. Did you?”
Nia smiled. “We did. The conversation I overheard was Travis trying to trap Madelyn into confessing.”
“Confessing to what?”
“She deleted the email I sent when Russ was in the house, and she gave my brother the code on how to get in.”
“Oh, my God.”
“What did Travis do to her?”
“She’s in jail waiting for a bail hearing. Daddy thinks she’ll make a deal.”
“I just want her out of your life.”
Nia smiled. “Me, too.”
“How are you dealing with shooting your brother?”
“Travis is getting me into counseling. I cry about it a lot.”
“That would be so hard, but you know you had to do it, right?”
“Yes. It was either Russ or Travis and his friends. I didn’t think twice about the decision when it happened. It was just after I questioned myself. Travis says that’s what the counselor will help me with.”
“I’m glad you’re getting help.”
“Me, too. One of the reasons I called was that I worried about you and Larkin. Did you guys get in trouble?”
“Larkin got spanked, which she enjoys, so she came out ahead,” Aleena said and giggled. “Kaleb and I had a long talk. He understood why I did it and thought it was brave to help you knowing I’d get in trouble, but I still had to get punished for lying to him. I’m grounded for a month, so I can’t go anywhere or have anyone over, and after dinner, I have to go to his office and read what he picks out for me while he does some work. I usually go to my playroom after dinner, so this is going to be incredibly boring.”
Nia laughed.
“I was also spanked but in the best possible way. It was all worth it. I’m just glad everything is working out between you two.”
“Me, too. The thought of never seeing him again tore me apart.”
“It would kill me, too, if I never got to see Kaleb.”
“If you’re grounded, should you be on the phone?”
“No.” Aleena giggled. “I’m hoping for another spanking.”
“You’re weird.”
“Oh, like you don’t like them,” Aleena groused.
Nia snorted. “I’ve only had a couple, and they were more for fun.”
“I thought they all were.”
Nia snorted again, and then both girls laughed.
Nia sighed. “I’m glad you’re okay.”
“I told you my daddy would be disappointed in me, which I hate more than anything, but he would never break up with me. He says I’m the other half of his soul.”
“That’s so sweet.”
“I think so, too. Hey, when I’m done being grounded, daddy said we are going to get together for a playdate.”
Nia bounced in place. “I’m excited.”
“Me, too.”
“Hey, you better go before you get in more trouble.”
Aleena giggled. “Okay. Thank you for calling. I was worried about you.”
“I was worried about you guys, too. I’ll see you soon. Bye.”
“Bye, Nia.”
Nia set down the phone and leaned back in Travis’s office chair. She felt at peace for the first time ever. She had good friends who were just like her, a nice place to live, and the best man in the whole wide world. There was nothing else she could ask for to make her life complete.
Epilogue
Nia and Travis got into position at the gun range. She glanced over at him. “Do you want to wager on who’s the best shot?”
He smirked. “Sure. You have to get all five bullets into the middle of the target. Now, what do I get when I win?”
She tried not to roll her eyes. “How about a blowjob every night for a week?”
“I’m not sure about that. You love that as much as I do.”
She laughed.
“How about you do the dishes every night for a week,” he said.
She thought about it and then nodded. “Sure. The same goes for you, right?”
“Of course.”
She put her safety glasses and her earphones back on and got back into position. “Ready, set, go.”
Several shots rang out. The vibrations and the kick of the nine-millimeter handgun were so familiar to her. She really had missed this and hoped they could do it often.
She pulled out the clip, set down her gun, and took off her safety gear. Then she turned to see Travis do the same.
Nia wanted to laugh at the cocky smile on his face as they both pushed the buttons to bring their targets forward.
She knew the instant he caught sight of hers. All five of her shots were dead center. She looked at his. The bullets were very close to the center or on. But not all five.
He narrowed his eyes at her.
She smirked. “Oh, did I forget to mention I’ve won a lot of awards in contests?”
“That’s cheating,” he grumbled.
She shrugged her shoulder. “All’s fair…”
He laughed, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her.
“We will do this again, baby, and next time, I’ll beat you.”
She pressed her lips to his chin. “Maybe I should tell you my father said that every time but never beat me.”
He rolled his eyes. “Let’s go home, Annie.”
Nia laughed. She didn’t mind being compared to Annie Oakley.
“Yes, let’s go home.” The only place besides his arms she ever wanted to be.
