DR. DAN BISSELL graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2002. He recently completed his residency in emergency medicine at the Maine Medical Center. During residency he received the Gold Foundation Award as Resident Teacher of the Year and was appointed chief resident of the emergency medicine program.

Prior to his medical training, Dan was involved in a number of pursuits. He graduated cum laude from Middlebury College in 1993 with a major in geology. He spent two years conducting marine geophysical research, much of it spent at sea mapping the ocean floor. Back on land he entered the computer mapping industry, working for utility and environmental clients. He went on to cofound Jupiter Technologies, a GIS and custom software engineering firm. He completed his premed studies at the University of Colorado while running the business.

Dr. Bissell lives (and practices) in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Kim, and their two children. Kim authored the final section on surviving as a spouse in the medical world.
