Black Death (A Sam Rader Thriller Book 4) Page 16

by Simon King

There were two lots of Jim’s ashes delivered to them. The first would be released that very afternoon, at a place they all knew he needed to be. The smaller urn would be returned to the Pogrom compound, to remain inside the very place that signified their entire existence. The Memorial Room was something he helped to create and John felt it fitting that the man became a permanent part of the journey.

The ceremony held back on Jim’s farm occurred right on sunset. They gathered on his front lawn, the sound of the ocean filling the air as the breeze swept in across the bay. There were more tears as Sam was handed the urn, closed her eyes and fought the sadness that was consuming her.

As if on cue, the wind picked up as she removed the lid, held the vessel in both hands and slowly emptied the ashes. The wind took hold of them and as she watched the dust get carried away on the very breeze he once called the evening song, she spoke the only words she thought fitting for the moment.

“The world will never be dark, as long as there are those prepared to fight for the light.”

If you enjoyed this book, could you please take a moment to leave a review for me? It really helps other readers decide if this book is right for them and also helps a new author like myself. It really is that important and I will be forever grateful. Thank you.

  Afterword

Wow, that was difficult. To say that was a hard final chapter to write is an understatement. If you have followed this journey since the very beginning, all the way back since The Final Alibi, then you will understand that my eyes wept through that entire passage. It was like I was saying farewell to an old friend, one who had followed me for a long time. Jim Lawson was my first-ever fictional character and thus holds a very special place in my heart.

On another note, I hate violence, but even more than that, I hate bullies. Domestic violence is a huge problem across the world and I in no way condone it. Yes, there is a chapter in this book told through the eyes of one such piece of shit that doesn’t see anything wrong with it. But I felt that particular part of the story needed it to be told that way, so that the horror it inflicts is truly addressed.

I truly hope you enjoyed this book. It brings me so much pleasure to keep sharing Sam’s journey with you. Book 5, called Thrill Kill, is already available for preorder. I hope you continue the ride with me and I can’t wait to see you on the other side.

Till then, stay safe, take care and let’s keep each other as entertained as possible.
