‘It’s OK, Mum, I’ve got everything I need right here.’

  Acknowledgements

My thanks to the plethora of family and friends who have believed in me and my ability to do this, and also for their encouragement and patience, especially to Steve and Donald, who lived this experience with me. Heartbreakingly, my wee pussycat Donald isn’t physically here any more but will live on for ever in my heart. He would open an eye from his slumber, briefly, as I read a chapter to him, before closing it again (no reflection on the book, I hasten to add!). To Steve, who has been so incredibly supportive, encouraging and enthusiastic, questioning me along the way when I felt something wasn’t quite working, there are not enough words …

Phil and Chris, you are like family to me, always there and always 100% supportive of everything I do.

My family who are unfaltering in their support and pride in what I do.

Kerr MacRae, my publishing agent. Without you, none of this would have happened. Thank you for your belief in my abilities, and your wisdom throughout this whole process.

Kate, my editor at HarperCollins … one incredibly talented, wonderful lady. You totally understood my vision. I have never written a book before and you made this experience so enjoyable and so much fun. You have taught me a lot and given me a new appreciation for the publishing industry.

Finally, my grateful thanks to HarperCollins for publishing this book and to the wider team who made it all possible, including publisher Kimberley Young for her support, Elizabeth Dawson and Emma Pickard for their marketing and publicity wisdom, and to Claire Ward and Caroline Young who designed the wonderful cover.
