Karla: She worked at Martha’s Diner as a waitress for several years before the outbreak with the attempt to save up enough money to travel to California with the hopes of becoming a successful actress. She had already saved over twenty five thousand dollars and was only a few months away from the move to Southern California. She had an apartment leased for a year starting at the beginning of April 2016 and she had planned on a long road trip with some friends from Chicago to Los Angeles in March. Unfortunately, the outbreak caused them to cancel their trip and stayed at home with their families in hopes that it would blow over. While working one night, a small herd of eight broke into the diner and infected Karla and everyone else inside.
Hitori Fukashima: The only living Co-founder of The Veil of The Five Daggers. His dark background and networks with all major criminal organizations helped Hitori to understand the necessity for a stable and multi-layered company. Still much is unknown about Hitori’s past but his love for mankind’s future has become his focus.
François Messier: Born into a life of love and reborn into a life of death. His outward faults and mannerisms hide the true nature of this man.
Janice & Patrick Yates: Janice is a survivalist toughened by the loss of her own child. Although, initially brought into denial about her son’s infection with the virus, Janice managed to overcome her disbelief and pain through rigorous training under the tutelage of Giselle Johnson. Patrick’s immediate action, to drive over their son, cultivated a deep hate within her heart for her husband and father of their child.
Janice and Patrick tried for years to have children. They were married for six years without any luck. They managed to pool together a decent amount of money to pay for artificial insemination. After a few attempts, Robert Yates was conceived. Robbie had been suffering with a weakened immune system and was in and out of the hospital since he was born. After several years, the financial burden had become overwhelming and Janice and Patrick’s relationship bore its first scars. They had several liens on their home and were a few months from foreclosure when the outbreak happened.
The turning of their son was the last straw in their already frail relationship. Patrick’s disfigurement, due to the accident that she inspired, was a thorn in her side since it reminded her of their son. Yet, even after years of disdain for her husband, Janice still loved the man but would never entertain the idea of rekindling a relationship.
Dr. Aoki and Dr. Ang: Two doctors who once worked abroad for the Center for Disease Control. Dr. Aoki was working with the Japanese government and Dr. Ang worked in the United Kingdom. All three were approached by Hitori Fukashima to work under the Veil once the Azrael virus was discovered. He boasted to have a secret facility near Chicago where they could safely study, experiment and develop a cure for the new virus. All were on board as information was released about its devastating nature.
Mark Sloan: is the most advanced version of Tricon’s Super Azrael Serum taken from The Veil of the Five Daggers stolen research due to his Albinism. He requires two doses of the serum to avoid turning full Azrael. However, his speed, strength and cunning have improved threefold. He does not require eating human flesh as his primary source of diet, an apparent weakness that the previous version has to deal with. He was responsible for Emma’s sudden escape, when she used her power of persuasion to let her go free. His new pet, Laura, received a stronger dose to counteract the female’s innate resistance to the Serum Transformation. Although, he has no intention to actually recapture Emma, he is keeping up the appearance that he is trying for Dr. Kolovski. He is among the Elite 10.
Samantha Hernandez: A young woman who has been surviving on her own for quite some time before running into Giselle and Toko. Her use of traps and tricks has been her main objective in keeping alive. During a routine clearing of an old house, Samantha and Giselle encountered a sickly Azrael as it leapt at her from the attic. Unfortunately, it managed to bite her arm in the process. Since the virus was in a state of weakness, it took a bit to attack Samantha’s immune system. It allowed the time for Giselle to inject her with Toko’s level 2 serum and save her life.
Chase and Drake: Two opportunistic enhanced Tricon soldiers with the desire to usurp Mark Sloan. They were in charge of Steven and Ethan’s capture and release. Although the boys escaped on their own, they made no effort to stop them from escaping. They are using the fallen enhanced soldier Ryan Scottsfield to retrieve Steven. Chase is among the Elite 10.
Ryan Scottsfield: He was once an enhanced Azrael soldier like Mark Sloan. They were given two separate upgraded versions of the Tricon serum. The upgraded concentration of Azrael cells was too much for Ryan’s immune system. Within a week, his body submitted fully to the virus. Through electric shock therapy, they were able to give Ryan mental control over his body once again. However, like all Awakened Azrael, he is not in control while his mind sleeps. Due to this liability, he is only used on specific missions. Chase added a GoPro camera on his head along with a shock collar in case his body fails to follow instructions. He is among the Elite 10.
Grace, Bryson and Norma Stuart: Surviving within a diner, they were discovered by Jimmy. They had been surviving for a few years on their own once the outbreak happened. They lived on what was left of a recent and last shipment of goods delivered to the family diner. A pack of wolves stalked them whenever they exited to toss out trash in the dumpsters nearly fifty yards from the back door. The trash met its capacity after the first year. They managed to dwindle down their trash usage and reuse cans, plastic bottles and plastic bags as rainwater gathering tools on the roof. By the third year, their water filter became toxic to use so they boiled the water instead. Jimmy discovered their hideout soon after and aided in their escape.
Lester, Shannon, Jerrell, and Tommy: They were hiding out in the WVON building near the Paul Simon Facility after David’s breach of the establishment. They were workers involved in the building of a new underground facility to study the virus. Unfortunately, due to the Azrael attack, they were forced to survive just on the outskirts of Paul Simon Job Corps property line.
Steve McAllister: He is an enhanced solder of Tricon from the second batch of the serum. He doesn’t require eating humans nor has the itching to spread the virus as the first batch. He managed to bulk up considerably due to the virus’ hunger for perfection. His appetite dwarfs Giselle’s due to his constant trips in the gym. In addition, since he chooses to eat nonhuman meat, he suffers from the same fate as Jason...insufferable flatulence. He doesn’t share Tricon’s lust for power nor does he have any ill intent towards Chicago’s inhabitants. He is among the Elite 10.
Brock Stevenson: He is an enhanced solder of Tricon from the first batch of the serum. Unfortunately, he requires eating human flesh to stay healthy and sane. Although, most see Brock as a loose cannon, his tactics usually deliver success. He is Dr. Kolovski’s favorite amongst the first batch of enhanced soldiers. He among the Elite 10.
Brian: He is a new member of the Awakened Azrael group. He was bit while milking one of the cows at the Drysdale Farm. The sudden attack startled the cow causing it to kick the Azrael square in the chest, releasing its bite on the teenage boy. He managed to stagger to his feet and hurried towards the farmhouse for help. During the disorientating and chaotic transition to Azrael, he grasped the electric fence that aided in keeping the cattle inside. The electric jolt during the process caused his transition to an Awakened version of the virus. Although, this isn’t always the case, it does disrupt the motor control detachment during the virus transition. He was kept around due to his docile demeanor, but was often abused by the ignorant.
Gunnery Sergeant Noah Flynn: In charge of protecting Steven, Noah was away taking care of his ill twin sister Laura Flynn. His military background and toughness has earned him the duty as Defense Commander of Chicago. However, his team of highly efficient military trained citizens couldn’t hold off the enhanced soldiers created by Tricon. His only living family member has been taken by Tricon. How far wil
l he go to rescue his sister?
Corporal Jeremy Mason: A marine who arrived in Chicago six months after the outbreak. He was aiding a band of survivors in an apartment building near the Indiana border. It was Giselle Johnson and her brother Jason Stone who brought them to the city. He thought for sure that the massive city would have been overrun with the Azrael. He was pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise. He joined the defensive teams utilizing his military background to its fullest. He once operated as an Eagles’ Nest sniper before falling in love with Megan. His personal life commandeered the solitary lifestyle the Eagles Nest provided and quit the team. He joined up with Noah Flynn on the security detail and remained there ever since.
