Tabitha—as I now knew her—was most assuredly Duncan’s cat, and even she seemed to love the space and freedom she had to roam within the castle.
Perhaps, the biggest surprise of all during the months that followed Duncan’s move here was his mother’s newfound romance with my favorite client, Henry. While we’d initially settled her into a long-term room at Isobel’s and Gregor’s inn, Isobel had reported to us that as of late, she rarely dined at the inn. Instead, each night she made the short walk over to Henry’s where she would cook for the two of them.
Free from the curse, none at McMillan Castle saw Osla again after the night of Morna’s spell, and Rosie, Cooper, Baodan and Mitsy were able to sleep soundly once again.
Smiling as I looked over at Duncan still sleeping in my bed, I thought of just how much had changed in me during the past year. While Duncan and I spoke little of where things were heading in our relationship, we both knew where the other stood.
No matter what, we would be at each other’s side—loving, cherishing, and challenging one another.
