  Maddox and Aurora

The Obsessed Alpha Series is back with Maddox.

He takes alpha to the next level when Aurora “Rory” Jones storms into his world, demanding a deal—a trade of sorts. Her innocence for her stepbrother’s debt cleared. With the offer pleasurably accepted, Maddox has no intention of letting her go. She offered herself up to the devil, and there’s no going back.

Rory entered the beast’s lair against her will. She sold her soul and body to the man who’s more dangerous and ruthless than her stepbrother. One look and she knows that her traitorous body can’t fight his demands, but will her heart agree?

  Chapter 1

  Maddox

“Sir, your tux is prepared for tonight as well as your favorite shoes. The catering company has arrived and is setting up the tables in the main hall. Will there be anything else you need?” It’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m hosting a party for some business associates, public officials and their dates. I don’t do it often, but when you have deals to make and zoning issues, sometimes you have to throw a party. Thankfully, I hire people for it all.

“No. Thank you, Morris.” He’s my personal assistant who has been with me the past six years and is so damn invaluable.

Standing up and adjusting my suit jacket, I head down the hall to check the setup and meet with the party planner, Debra Armstrong. She’s the one I’ve worked with over the past decade and remains one of the few that I find qualified for the task. She’s dedicated, efficient, and, most of all, she’s professional. Never once have I gotten the vibe that she wanted more than a business relationship. That can’t be said for a lot of women I’ve come across. I never mix business with pleasure so it’s nice when I don’t have to end a working partnership.

I enter the large ballroom and find them throwing linen clothes over the cocktail tables that are strategically placed. The party doesn’t start for another seven hours, but they like to prepare in advance just in case something goes wrong.

The sound of my Bolvaint leather shoes hitting the newly polished floors causes her to turn around. “Ah, Mr. Devlin. It’s a pleasure to see you here.” She approaches with a grand smile on her face. She’s a tall, slender woman in her late forties with over twenty years of experience.

“I came to inspect the setup.”

We shake hands, and then she adds, “I expect no less.”

“Thank you for understanding.” Some people get bent out of shape if you question their abilities, but I wouldn’t be where I am if I left everything up to good faith. No smart businessman would just take someone’s word without proof of their success.

We walk side by side, surveying the tables. “Despite your disposition, you’re one of my easiest clients to please.”

“Well, you do things right the first time.” Everyone knows that my time is money, and I hate to be bothered with anything frivolous.

“Guests are expected to arrive around nine, and I have a dozen servers for the night.”

“Have they all been screened? Background check and all?”

She nods, but I sense a slight irritation in her posture. “Of course. I sent you their photos and names to your email this morning.” Strangely, it appears she’s trying to excuse herself.

  “Thank you.”

“Excuse me, but I have somewhere I need to be. I’ll only be gone for the next three hours. The staff will be ready before I return.”

“Great.” I hate that she has to leave because I don’t trust strangers in my home. I’ll call security and have them keep an eye on them. Something seems to be going on with her. Why is she in a rush to leave? I wonder if she’s doing more than one event for tonight. As long as things run smoothly, I don’t care what she does.

I walk around the room, continuing my perusal of all the centerpieces for each table for another couple of minutes before heading to my office. I’m just about to sit down when Morris knocks on the door.

  “Enter,” I bite out.

He dips his head in and says, “Sir, I’m sorry to interrupt, but there’s a car pulling down the main road. It stopped just outside the front gate cameras.”

“How long has it been there?”

  “About two minutes.”

“Okay.” I opened the security panel to the set of screens. I don’t see Debra’s car in front of the estate, so I move to the camera that shows the car sitting on my private road.

“Have you run the plates?” I ask, trying to zoom in to the number, reading it clearly, so I know my men have done their jobs or it’ll be their heads.

“Yes, sir. They belong to Rudy Jones.”

Instantly, I’m annoyed. What could that fuck be doing just outside my property? Unless he has my money, there’s nothing I want with him. “What the hell is that piece of shit doing here?” He’s lucky that I’ve gone semi-legit since I opened my first legal business, or I’d treat him like I did to those who crossed me before. A bullet to the head and a body completely dissolved. It’s been a long time, but I might just scratch that itch.

“I don’t know, but ah, he’s getting out.” He moved to the back door, opening it for someone. A pair of legs come out first, and the world slows to a stop as I wait patiently for the rest of her to appear, and then there she is, making me lightheaded.

Something strange hits me in the chest when a tiny dark-haired siren appears. She’s in a mini red-dress that should be banned from existing and will once I get my hands on her. I watch, lost at the sight of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. What is she doing with Rudy? Why the fuck does he have his hands on what belongs to me? I snarl and growl like a wild animal ready to attack.

“Are you okay, Mr. Devlin?” Morris questions with a stutter.
I guess it’s fair considering I feel dangerous.

“I will be.” She pulls out a little purse, adjusting her lipstick. It’s deep red, but I’m going to wipe it off with my own mouth as soon as I can. Fuck. My dick throbs as she flips her long hair off her shoulder.

Zooming in on her face, I see the sneering glare she tosses his way. Good.

I hate that lousy piece of shit. The only reason Jones isn’t lying in a pine box right now is he owes me a fortune. The fucker is in the hole with more than just me, but he’s working for John McDowell, a well-known lawyer in Laredo. None of that matters because all that is on my mind is her, whoever she is.

  Chapter 2

  Rory

I stare out of my window, wondering where we are. My stepbrother finally pulled the blindfold off a mile ago. Wooded areas line the road, sending dread through me. I wish I could run, but my sister is at risk, and with our parents dead, we only had Rudy as our guardian. I turned eighteen yesterday and now, I’ve reached the ripe age where I’m only useful for one thing—according to Rudy. A hot tear runs down my face, and I wipe it silently away, so he doesn’t see, but he notices anyway.

“Don’t start fucking crying, you little bitch,” he snarls, glaring at me through the rearview mirror. This day has to be the worst of my life, and I know it’s only set to get worse. I have a choice to make. Neither are beneficial, and both are downright terrifying. “It’s not that terrible. Both of these fucks will take care of you after you give them your virginity.”

“Yeah, I’d rather just live in the street,” I muttered, crossing my arms and sitting back against the leather seats. We hardly have any food to eat, but Rudy spent the inheritance on presenting a wealthy front. A large house, luxury cars, and expensive clothes for him. This dress he put me in is the nicest thing I own, but it’s still a Gucci knock off.

“Do you think I’ll let you live anywhere if you don’t do what you’re told. Big John has seen you and wants you, but I need Maddox’s hounds off of me. Nothing is going to stop him from coming at me unless it’s you.” Maddox Devlin…the man who makes my pulse race and my skin tingle and we’ve never met. I’ve heard about him so many times that I looked him up and that was a big mistake. He’s thirty-four—almost old enough to be my dad.

Maddox’s a supposed businessman, but everyone knows he’s got illegal ties kind of like a mobster. A sexy as hell mobster from the few images I managed to find online. His short dark hair matches his dark brown eyes. Everything about him screams dangerous, including his broad shoulders that are equally as powerful as his muscled chest, all visible through his professionally tailored suits.

He attends events with politicians, celebrities, and top executives around the country, but there’s never a woman on his arm in any of the pictures. I’m totally going to make an ass of myself.

Along with the other famous people, he’s listed as one of the most eligible bachelors in the world. Who knew a mobster could be that out in the open? It’s probably because there are so many people in his pocket that he can’t be touched by the law.

And that’s why I’m here. Maddox wants me or at least willing to bed me to settle Rudy’s debts.

“Why should I care?” I tell the cokehead who can’t get enough money to feed his habit.

“Because I’ll put a bullet in your little sister’s head. She’s next to get traded off for a good deal. Another two years and I can push her onto Big John.”

It’s New Year’s Eve, and I’m ending my terrible year with a bang—trading my innocence like a commodity. I can’t even explain how much I hate Rudy. If it wasn’t for my sister, I wouldn’t be here. She doesn’t deserve this—neither of us do. Our lives changed the day my mother met Julio two years ago. They fell madly in love, and I truly liked Julio. His son, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. Rudy wanted his dad’s fortune, and he’d do anything to get it. I believe he’s the one who had my parents killed on vacation in Mexico, but I can’t prove it.

I close my eyes and lean back and absorb my new reality. Shit. I don’t know what is even going to happen. Will Maddox use me as his plaything for one night? Or will I be on a temporary status until he searches for his next flavor?

Rudy pulls up just outside a large gated estate.

“Are you ready? You know what you’re supposed to do, right?”

“Yes, I’m going to go in there like I want to be with him, and as long as he’s happy, she’s safe.”

“Smart girl.” He opens his door, stepping closer to let me out. The asshole clicked the childproof locks on the door and windows before tossing me in. I didn’t have the option of jumping out once he stuffed me in there. As he moves toward the back passenger door, my heart picks up pace. I’m not a seductress, and yet I’m forced to take on that role to a man who has probably a brothel of women in and out of his place.

Fuck, it’s cold. We live in southern Texas, but we’ve been hit with a cold spell. It’s only fifty degrees outside, and I’m not wearing a coat. I walk up with the most confidence I can muster, and the guard meets me with a scowl, roaming his eyes up and down my body that is exposed in this way too skimpy red dress. “This is private property. Can I help you?” He slides his tongue over his top lip, licking his chops.

Arching my brow and with one hand on my hip, I answer, “I’m here to see Mr. Devlin.” Fuck, it’s freezing, and yet, I’m starting to feel sweat under my boobs, or maybe I’m too nervous and way out of my league. That’s not going to help my mission in the least. Immediately I think of my sister. This is for her.

He scoffs. “I don’t believe he’s expecting you.”

“I’m sure he is. He made a deal with my stepbrother.”

“I wasn’t made aware of any guests coming.”

“I need to see him,” I purr, grabbing the bars and leaning forward, attempting to use my large breasts to entice him while simultaneously giving my under-boob a breeze.

“Little thing, as hot as you are, you’re not going to see the boss. I’m not about to lose my life for a bimbo looking to sneak into his bed. Now, if you want to earn some money, maybe you could ride me.”

“Ugh, no.” Revulsion hits me straight in the gut. It’s bad enough being bartered to a man I find sexy as hell.

He crosses his arms, giving me a nasty scowl. I don’t care about this guy. It’s the boss man I need to speak with. “Gold digger.”

“I just want to talk to him about my stepbrother and see if I can make a deal.”

  “Who is your stepbrother?”

  “Rudy Jones.”

He laughs his ass off. “Oh, that piece of shit is your stepbrother? The boss isn’t going to want to meet you no matter how fine your pretty ass.” I blow out a hard breath which is visible in this cold weather.

His phone goes off. “Yep. Jones’s sister. Should I send her packing?” He hangs up and tucks the phone in his pocket. “Looks like you got lucky. The boss is feeling generous. You can see him.”

“Lucky,” I mutter under my breath. The gates open up, and I think he’s going to frisk me, but he jumps back like I’m contagious. Maybe the boss man didn’t tell his minions that he’s into fresh meat for a price.

  Chapter 3

  Maddox

The cameras follow every step. I switch to the one with the best vantage point, zooming so close that I can see the swell of her breasts and her rapidly beating heart. She’s approaching one of my guards. From my angle, it looks like she’s trying to flirt with him. I’m going to spank her ass for that. I turn on the sound and listen in. I’m calling him right away because another disgusting word from his mouth is going to be met with a bullet.

I storm out of the house. I don’t give a fuck if it’s cold, or this could be a trap. I want her, and the thought of anyone looking at her dressed like that sends me into a violent rage. “If any one of you put your hands on her, it’ll be the last thing you do,” I warn my guards who come from the sides of the house.

  “Get over here right now.”
I take off my suit jacket and drape over her shoulders. “You and I need to speak, and then you’re going to understand what I’m willing to tolerate.” My hand rests on the small of her back as we move quickly to the house. My impatience and irritation show when she wobbles in her hooker heels. Snarling, I scoop her up in my arms and carry her into my office. Once I set her on her feet, I lock the door.

Whipping my phone out, I demand that all interior staff leave for the day.

“Sir, we have the catering staff working on the party arrangements for tonight.”

“Fine. They aren’t to leave that area unless it’s through the back end. No one is to interrupt me unless they want to feel my wrath.”

“Yes, Sir.” I don’t want anyone to intrude on my plans for her. Shit, the only plans I have are to get her naked, stuffed so deep with my cock, and bred before the sun sets.

Needing to get control of myself before I fuck her without answers, I turn on the no-nonsense asshole that made me the man I am today. My face hardens, startingly her. For a moment, I hate myself for scaring her, but I need “Not only did you show up on my property demanding to see me, you barge in, disrupting my day. That’s not acceptable. Now, tell me who you are and what the fuck you want.”

“Um…” She looks so damn nervous and sweet, but I can’t let her in until I know who she is and why she’s here. I didn’t get to this spot in my life by being trusting or allowing my dick to run the fucking show.

I step in closer and whisper, “Sweetheart, I’m a busy man. Get on with it. What’s your name?”

She rocks on her feet from side to side, nervously stammering out, “Rory Jones.”
