Guarded By the Wolf: Werewolf Romance Page 34

by Luna Lucas

“Deal,” she said. They walked hand in hand outside to meet the others. The moment they stepped out, they were met with curious eyes.

“She’s decided that she will be around for many years to come,” said Colby. There was an explosion of cheers as they hugged Megan.

It was a long drive to Megan’s home. The repairs to the mansion were slowly underway, and Megan knew that now was a good time for her to return. Colby was beside her in the cab. When they arrived at the house, Megan took a deep breath and got out. Colby burst from the cab; he reached her effortlessly and spun her around to face him.

He stared boldly at her, his eyes blazing like fire. She stared back at him, unable to collect her spinning thoughts. Then all at once, they embraced each other. They held one another so tight. It seemed as if they would never break apart. They kissed with all the passion and fury they held in their hearts. He couldn’t believe that he was just letting her go—even if it wasn’t for that long. He didn’t want to be without her for even a second.

They broke apart from their kiss. Both were breathless. With their hands interlocked, they walked toward the house. Megan didn’t have to knock on the door. Her mother threw it open and embraced her. Tears filled her eyes, and she planted small kisses on Megan’s forehead. She didn’t seem to notice Colby standing there, looking out of place.

But when the moment was over, and Colby had been introduced, they were both welcomed inside with much to talk about. When everything was said, her mother did not know how to process such information. But for the first time in twenty-four years, she saw her mother trying to keep an open mind about vampires actually existing. Megan smiled because she knew they would all soon be a big, happy family. It was the beginning of something beautiful.

  Chapter Six

Megan was glad to be back in school. The first thing she did was hug Angela, her very best friend. The second thing she did was give her extremely late paper to Mr. Kent. He was intrigued by her premise and what she described as, “the experience of a lifetime,” but only briefly talked about. When he asked her why she didn’t elaborate more on what she’d found or experienced, Megan replied, “Some myths are just better being kept myths.”

Overall, she received a passing grade. Over the course of the following weeks, she spent her time getting buried with homework. Colby came over each day to see her and keep her safe. They were planning a wedding and couldn’t wait to start a family together. As the seasons changed and the days passed, school ended, and Megan said goodbye to her mother as she went to stay with Colby and his coven for the summer. She would return for her sophomore year of college in the fall. This was how life was to be, and it was great.

But in the back of their minds, they never forgot that one day, this wondrous bliss could be taken away. Especially if Landon was still out there. Landon and the other vampire hunters would never stop following them. He would never give up until every last member was dead. This scared Megan. What if she got pregnant and he tried to come after her child? What kind of danger would they be in? With the future so uncertain, she could only hope for the best.

Colby took her hand in his, and instantly she felt stronger. Together they could overcome anything. She was sure of that.

Flowers swayed with the wind. It was a beautiful summer evening. Perfect for a glass of tea and a wonderful family. She was grateful for both.

“Do you think I’ll be a vampire someday?” she asked.

“I’d rather you stay human for as long as you can,” he said. “Your mother would kill me if she discovered that I made you into a vampire.”

Megan sipped her tea and rolled her eyes. “I suppose we can discuss it at a later time,” she said.

“In time, perhaps,” he replied. Megan snuggled into him and watched the sun dip further down the trees.
