After three false starts, Eawynn finally said. “Do you think this counts as implausibly good luck?”
“I don’t know.”
“I mean, I’m not saying we should do anything rash or stupid.” Eawynn wondered whether she was being rash and stupid merely by considering the idea, but was it any more fanciful than the story of the Shewstone?
“No. We need to take it one day at a time.”
“Agreed.”
“We don’t start visiting gambling dens.”
“Oh no.”
“We don’t take risks.”
“No.” Eawynn picked up the coins and looped her arm through Matt’s. “We’ll just see how it goes.”
“Right.” Matt pulled her around for a long, slow kiss, then looked deep into her eyes. “Let’s go see how this luck thing works.”
Together, they walked away through the streets of Fortaine, while dawn proclaimed the start of a new day.
About the Author
Jane Fletcher is a GCLS award-winning writer and has also been short-listed for the Gaylactic Spectrum and Lambda Literary awards. Her love of fantasy began at the age of seven when she encountered Greek Mythology. Her resolute ambition was to become an archaeologist when she grew up, so it was something of a surprise when she became a software engineer instead.
Born in Greenwich, London, in 1956, she now lives in southwest England where she keeps herself busy writing both computer software and fiction, although generally not at the same time.
