“It helps that Bryce owns this place,” Roger pointed out as he pulled her onto the stage. “I have to tell you, Celeste, being with you makes my life perfect. I never knew I could ever be this happy.”

“I feel the same way,” she agreed with a smile. “I wasn’t looking for you, but I’m so glad God brought you into my life.”

Suddenly, their friends and family started filing out and filling the chairs around them. She wasn’t sure what was going on, but before she could question it, Roger started speaking again.

“Celeste Allen, you are the most beautiful woman I have ever met. Your beauty is only eclipsed by your brilliant mind and faith-filled heart. I can’t spend one more day without being with you.” He bent down on one knee and pulled out a ring box. He opened it and asked, “Will you marry me?”

Celeste nodded as he slipped the ring on her finger. She looked down at the ring on her finger and squealed with delight, “I’m marrying Roger Boswell III.”

Their friends and family surrounded them, clapping and cheering for the newly engaged couple. She could hardly believe that Roger had surprised her with a proposal in the middle of a Broadway stage.

“I thought you would find the location fitting, since you’ve always wanted to be on Broadway,” Roger explained. “I also have an engagement party planned here for all of us. I invited everyone.”

Lana came rushing up to her side, with Bryce right behind her. “Let me see that rock,” her best friend demanded, pulling it towards her. “I’m so happy for the two of you.”

“I always knew there was something special between the two of you,” Bryce observed. “I’m glad it’s official now.”

Megan came up beside them and said, “Okay, it’s my turn to see the ring.”

Celeste’s roommate had been going to church for the past couple of months, and it seemed the messages had struck home. She was making an effort to put away her belongings, to clean up after herself, and be the friend Celeste once knew and loved.

She took Celeste’s hand in her own and flipped it back and forth. “Wow, that’s amazing. I hope one day I find a man half as good as these two, and even a fourth as rich.”

The group laughed as Roger’s family came up to congratulate the newly engaged couple. The final person, holding his grandfather’s hand, was Marcus. He hugged his father first, then Celeste. With a big grin, he said, “I so excited. You mine forever.”

Celeste’s heart melted at the sweet words. “That’s right, Marcus. We belong to each other forever now.”

The music began to play, and Roger asked Celeste if she wanted to dance. As he guided her onto the dance floor, she looked around the room and said, “I love being here, but it makes me wonder about something.”

  “What’s that?”

“What happens if I finally get a part on Broadway?” Celeste asked with a hint of worry Roger wouldn’t want her to give up taking care of Marcus.

“We’ll just have to hire another nanny. There’s no way you’re giving up your dreams for me. You convinced me to tell my dad I wanted to co-run Boswell Oil with my sister. The company is running morally and ethically correct for the first time ever, and you helped me make my dreams come true. The least I can do is make sure I do everything I can to help you with yours.”

“If we do end up having to hire another nanny, I insist that she be ugly—I mean really ugly,” Celeste demanded. “I can’t go having you fall for the next one.”

“When are you going to realize that I didn’t fall for the nanny? I fell for you, Celeste Allen,” he declared as he reached out and pulled her into his arms. “You’re the only woman I’m ever going to want for the rest of my life.”

With that, Roger leaned down and sealed his declaration with a kiss, pushing out any doubts or worries Celeste had about the future. In that moment, she had a new dream of being the best mother and wife in the world. She might never star on Broadway, but she would always be a star to the Boswell boys, and that was all she would ever need.

  Acknowledgments

My writing journey would not be possible without those who supported me. Since I can remember, writing is the only thing I love to do, and my deepest desire is to share my talent with others.

First and foremost, I am eternally grateful to Jesus, my lord and savior, who created me with this “writing bug” DNA.

In addition, many thanks go to:

My husband, Dustin, and three daughters, Katie, Julie, and Nikki, for loving me and supporting me during all my late-night writing marathons and coffee-infused mornings.

My mother, Connie, for being my first and most honest critic, now and always. As a little girl, sleeping under your desk during late-night deadlines for the local paper showed me what being a dedicated writer looked like.

My angels in heaven: my grandmother, who passed away in 2001; my infant son, Dylan, who was taken by SIDS three years ago; and my father, who left us this past year.

My good friend and fellow indie author Alexia Purdy who answered all my questions about this process and showed me the ropes.

To my ARC Angels for taking the time to read my story and give valuable feedback.

To the Jenna Brandt Books Street Team, who have pounded the virtual streets on the internet, helping to spread the words about my books. Your dedication means a great deal.
