  At once he clasped her to him tightly. She felt the huge sigh of relief that escaped him. He tucked her head under his chin and spread his large hands over her back.

  ‘Thank God! If you knew how long I’ve been waiting to persuade you…’ His hand stroked through her hair, then slid round to her cheek. He leaned forward to kiss her again. And again.

  ‘You have pulled my dress quite off my shoulder,’ murmured Rose eventually.

  ‘Mmm,’ he rumbled, ‘been waiting an awfully long time to get this far. In any case, this sofa is too damned narrow, I shall make sure we have wider ones in our own home.’
