Obstruction By Nightmare (Academy of Broken Dreams Book 3) Page 17

by Rose Alexander

I’m pulled from sleep by the sounds of feet running and loud voices outside my door. What is going on out there? I swing my legs over the side of the bed and quickly walk to my door.

I open it just a crack to peek out and have to snatch my head back to keep it from being taken off by a student rushing by. Kids are running down the stairs carrying their things.

“Hey!” I shout, grabbing the attention of one of the Fury students. “What’s going on?

“You haven’t heard? Coventry plans to make us all his military force. Our parents have had enough, and they have shown up and demanded that their kids be sent home. We are trying to get out of here before Coventry shows up and locks the school down.” The student turns and races down the stairs.

Did this kid live under a rock? He put Dissidents in his military school weeks ago and Caballine a few a weeks later. I roll my eyes. He must have gone after Fury and now people are seeing the truth.

I wonder if Aunt Nellie knows what’s going on, but I have no way of contacting her and what about Sam? There's a knock on my door and before I can answer it, it swings open hitting the wall with a loud bang.

“Whisper, we have to go, get your things.” Sam rushes in, grabs my bags from the closet and starts throwing things in.

“So, Coventry has come for the Furys?” My chest tightens as my panic rises.

Sam stops packing my bags and walks over and takes my face in his hands. “Yes, and the parents are finally seeing what’s going on. Let’s go, I don’t want to be here when Coventry shows up!” His urgency adds to the adrenaline already pumping through my veins and I start helping him throw things in my bags.

We step out of my room into the crowd of students making our way down to the front door of the school. There are students standing around waiting for their parents to show up while others are being rushed out the door.

“Whisper!” I hear Lydia’s voice calling my name.

I turn around and try to locate where she’s at when I’m wrapped in a tight hug.

“I can’t talk for long. Aunt Helen is here. She’s taking me home until all of this settles down. I will talk to you soon. Be safe.” She gives me another quick hug and disappears back into the crowd.
