by Yakov Merkin

Flame, the: The Daeris name for their ability to produce a chemical-based fire from their bodies; in Daeris mythology, the Flame is in a sense considered a spiritual force that calls on the Daeris to use it, and often used in swears and other expletives.

Fortraun System/Portestan/Tythian: The Fortraun system is unique among the Alliance in that it has no inhabited planets, all of its worlds either being too harsh for even an artificial colony or stormy gas giants. However, Tythian, a moon of the gas giant Portestan, houses the Scionate, the headquarters of the Scions. The nature of the system does lend itself to other small, non-official presences, but if there are any other pockets of inhabited space, they are not known at this time.

Galactic Alliance: An interstellar alliance of 27 inhabited systems, with a total of 75 inhabited member worlds. Each system maintains its own independent government, but much is run through and regulated by the centralized Alliance government, the Assembly, located on Dorandor. There is a common currency, and general trade and travel laws are regulated by the Alliance central government. The Alliance’s motto is, “May our bonds of Alliance never falter!”

Gizal: Felinari word for infiltration or sneaking, formerly used as the word for thief.

Gretham System/Hallenon, Victuris: The Gretham system, another Alliance core system, is one of the largest in the Alliance, with six heavily inhabited planets, and it part of the Talvostan Union. There are, however, significant Darvian, Tehlman, Eletran, and Irhani populations on some of these worlds, including Hallenon and Victuris, and numerous joint military installations with those powers as well as with the Legion Navy.

Harbinger: Felinaris infiltration and insertion ship, first in the night’s grasp-class.

Hermav: Felinari word meaning kill, also the name of a now disbanded black ops assassination unit.

Hudecar: Flagship of the Tyrannodon Armada, personal ship of Executor Darkclaw. The Hudecar was created by the High Lord himself, using his power.

  Ienmier: Lit: Clawless. Felinaris insult.

Imicry: The energy manipulation abilities wielded by the Scions of Justice. The Scions gain access to this ability by way of a specialized implant they are given upon acceptance to the order, and they are able to replenish their imicric energy by drinking water, though even the Scions themselves do not know exactly why this is the case. Imicry allows the Scions to create energy constructs that can act like physical objects, including weapons, grasping implements, and means of propelling themselves in a given direction. They use us their energy reserves far slower if they retract the constructs into themselves when their use is finished as opposed to letting it disconnect from them. E.X. firing blasts of imicric energy will deplete a Scion’s reserves faster than lashing out with whip-like constructs. Additionally, using a great deal of imicry over an extended period hastens dehydration.

Irhani: The Irhani are a bipedal, hairless species with generally gray, leathery skin. On the lower half of their faces they have numerous sensory tendrils that enable them to have an awareness of their surrounding beyond the basic senses. Males tend to have more of these tendrils than females, and twitching tendrils can indicate nervousness. Irhani fingers are made of a unique substance similar to cartilage, allowing a very high level of flexibility while not serving as a detriment when performing everyday tasks.

Irhani System/Irhan: While the Irhani system is not considered one of the core systems of the Galactic Alliance, it is significant in that it, with its significant though not particularly large defense fleet, has long been considered a bulwark against potential invaders seeking to push into the Alliance. Its only world inhabited enough to be considered an official Alliance member, Irhan, is among the most heavily industrialized in the Alliance.

Izval: Felinari expletive, roughly equivalent to the English "shit." E.X. "Izval!"

Kademah, Felikhai: Lit: forward, soldiers. Felinaris battle cry, combat command.

Kanor: The Kanor are a small, furred species that generally takes a background role in Alliance activities, but while they are not generally seen as important from a political perspective, they are extremely technological-minded, and have contributed greatly to recent technological advances, and are even believed to be on the verge of creating the first true artificial intelligences in the Alliance.

Kanor System: The Kanor system is a small one, with only one inhabited world, but is an innovation center, and as such has become quite well-off since joining the Alliance after a long period of remaining independent but having friendly relations.

Kareben: The Kareben are fairly Tehlmanlike in appearance, only notably shorter in stature, and in place of an eye crest they have a pair of knoblike protrusions on their foreheads. The Kareben are also unique in that they have a significantly longer than average natural lifespan, and have limited empathic capabilities, which have long been put to use in official capacities to detect lies.

Kerakhi: Felinari expletive, used as insult. E.X. "You kerakhi scum!" (Plural: kerakhil)

Khadohs Kingdom of Felinar: The name of the government of the Felinar system. The Khadohs Kingdom of Felinar is nominally a monarchy and the king or queen holds significant power individually, though in practice the sitting monarch shares power with two elected parliamentary houses, and generally, at least in recent times, has had an amicable relationship with the civilian administrators. The current ruler is King Feliar Khariah.

  Khadohs: Felinari word for holy.

Khar: Felinari word for person, though in some contexts, such as part of their name for their homeworld, Felikhar, khar can also mean place, with Felikhar meaning “Place of the Omnipresent.” Plural is kharis, as in the native name of their species, Felikharis.

Khiel: Felinari word for air, sky.

Khielvas: Lit. Chosen of the sky. Name of the Royal Felinaris Navy’s elite naval commando unit.

Khiya il’Felisihu, khyia il’Felikhar. K’elat pakid, Srei Felitzvah: Lit: My life for the Omnipresent, my life for Felinar. It is yours to command, Grand Admiral. Felinaris military oath, considered one of the most powerful one can make.

  Khor: Felinari word for runner.

Khoshekh: Shuraf mount of Admiral Felivas Kharitzon.

  Khoshekh: Lit: Night runner.

  Kival: Felinari word for electronic.

Kival Gizal: Lit. Electronic infiltration. The name of the Royal Felinaris Navy’s elite electronic warfare/sabotage combat unit.

Kset: Lit: Gathering. Felinari name for houses of prayer; used for all prayer houses, from massive, elaborate ones to small, ad-hoc places of prayer, such as those on some warships.

Legion Navy: Official, centralized military force of the Galactic Alliance. Majority Tehlman, but members of all Alliance races serve and contribute. Has taken the place of individual systems’ defense fleets, though some still maintain their own, independent military force.

Marai Vas: Lit. Chosen of the sea. Name of the Royal Felinaris Navy’s aquatic commando unit.

Maviiri Detzak: Lit: The bringers of justice. Name of Grand Admiral Nayasar Khariah’s team formed to assassinate those involved in the Selban Massacre.

Maviiri: Felinari word meaning “the bringers of,” or, more simply, “the bringers.”

Melliore System: The Melliore system is the Nihluran home system, and contains three highly inhabited worlds; largely by Nihlurans, though a fair number of others have made the system home as well. The combination between the Nihluran love for new experiences and the system’s distance from the center of Alliance regulations makes it a highly trafficked system.

Menan: Felinari word for loyal .

Metran System/Venariss II: The Metran system was originally a Tehlman colony world, but over time it became an economic and industrial center, with residents from almost all Alliance races. Only one world in the system, Venariss II, has enough inhabitants to be considered an official Alliance member, the other two worlds in the system are large manufacturing and industrial centers, and have a fair amount of permanent inhabitants, mai
nly workers and their families.

  Mier: Felinari word for claw.

Moktysin System: The Moktysin system, the Kareben home system, contains two highly populated worlds, along with numerous less densely populated planets and moons. While it is near the edge of Alliance space, the Moktysin system very much follows Alliance law to the letter. As a result, and due to the native Karebens’ empathic and lie detecting abilities, the system has a reputation as a very peaceful paradise.

  Nayasar: Lit: Shining star.

  Naya: Felinari word for star.

Nihlurans: The Nihlurans are one of the most widespread species in the Alliance, second only to the Tehlmans. This is due in large part to their higher reproductive rate. However, due to this, and their unique reproductive focus, many Nihlurans spend significant portions of their life seeking new experiences, often moving from place to place, leading to their civilization as a whole not quite reaching the same level of advancement and influence as the Tehlmans and others. That said, the species’ reputation of being lackadaisical, flighty, and ruled by baser instincts are not quite fair.

Odiress System/Ilias: The Odiress system, with three inhabited worlds, including Ilias, is a fairly minor Alliance system. Originally one of several Nihluran colonies, the lush world of Ilias soon gained a reputation as a place worth visiting, and Ilias and its sister worlds, Viras and Levis, have become major cultural centers.

Omnipresent, the: The Standard name of the Felinaris deity, who they believe to be not only omnipresent, but also omnipotent and omniscient. According to their beliefs, everything, from living beings to stars to occurrences, stem from the Omnipresent.

  Ozar: Felinari word for strength.

Praesidium System: The Praesidium system is one of the systems making up the Talvostan Union, though it was the most recent added to the Union, and the least industrialized. As a result, its three primary worlds have become a cultural an agricultural center for both the Union and the Alliance as a whole.

Ranivantum: The capital world of the Talvostan Union, Ranivantum has, both because it is the primary world of arguably the most powerful single faction of the Galactic Alliance, and thus one of the most heavily protected, and because it is so close to Dorandor, a political and military center of the Alliance. Despite being very much a part of general Alliance activity, however, Ranivantum is very much a Talvostan world, and they make it known.

Reathan System/Reath: The Reathan system, which only has a single inhabited world, Reath, lies near the edge of Alliance space, and is considered by many a backwater system, and due to its distance from the Alliance core, operates largely outside of Alliance regulations, though officially it is fully compliant. Reflecting the more wild sector of the Alliance in which it is located, a fair amount of crime, organized or otherwise, takes place there or nearby. However, a growing political faction on Reath has begun to push back against this, seeking greater acceptance and prominence in the galactic scene.

Red Reavers: The Red Reavers are a largely Darvian pirate gang that is active near the edge of Alliance space, around the Reathan and Zarian systems, though they have even been rumored to use safe-houses outside of Alliance controlled space altogether. For a time, they almost controlled their region through terror, pillaging ships and colonies, robbing, kidnapping, and killing, becoming known for leaving very bloody scenes as warnings for those who oppose them. However, a fairly recent campaign by the Legion Navy, led by the Scions of Justice, destroyed most of their safe-houses, wiped out the majority of the Red Reavers, and drove the remnants into hiding. The Red Reavers are rumored to still be about, taking what they can, but they are far from the terror they once were.

Reizan’Tvay/Saviors: The mysterious, highly advanced species that created the Tyrannodons and had an unknown role in the development of other civilizations now part of the Galactic Alliance. All traces of them apart from a few abandoned research outposts have vanished, and not even the Tyrannodon High Lord knows what became of them.

Sar: Felinari word for shine, (or shining in a compound word.)

Scions of Justice: A paramilitary police/peacekeeping force which operates independently of the Alliance military and government, but it regulated by the Assembly. Made up of volunteers of nearly all member species, who must pass a series of trials in order to join. Scions are granted surgically implanted blades in each arm, which can be extended and retracted at will. Additionally, another implant grants the Scion the ability to use imicry. The Scions act in the greater good, but do not shy away from meting out harsh justice when they deem it necessary, and are always found at the front when a major conflict arises and the Alliance has need of them.

Selakar System/Sneva: The Snevan home system, the Selakar system contains two worlds that were once considered full Alliance members, in addition to many smaller settlements. The Selakar system was notable for its abundance of natural resources, both on Sneva itself and elsewhere in the system, and between its strength as an exporter and the Snevan Dominance’s significant military strength, it became a major player in the Alliance, and even after it left the Alliance has maintained ties with a number of Alliance systems independent of the Galactic Alliance’s central government.

Selban: A large, highly developed city on Felinar that suffered an incredibly destructive and deadly attack by extreme anti-Felinaris elements.

Selban (warship): Felinar-class battleship, second ship of the class. Intentionally crewed entirely with personnel who had lost loved ones in the Selban Massacre.

Selban Massacre: An attack organized and carried out by fanatically anti-Felinaris elements. Twenty-thousand, seven hundred and sixteen Felinaris were killed in the attack, along with the entire attacking force. Central Alliance authorities and agencies failed to so much as condemn the attack, and took no action against its organizers.

Selixan Station: A massive space station created by the Reizan’Tvay, left for the Tyrannodons to use to create an army. Capable or producing clone soldiers, warships, and other equipment at an incredible pace, though it requires an immense amount of power and raw materials.

  Shekh: Felinari word for night.

  Shua: Felinari word for thunder.

Shuraf: Quadrapedal, semi-sentient feline creature used as mounts by Felinaris mobile infantry and officers. Believed to have an evolutionary link with the Felinaris, shurafil are known to form some sort of extra-sensory bond with the rider they are paired with over time.

Signis System/Ineffra/Xearin: The Signis system, located not particularly far from the Alliance center, is the home system of the Daeris, and contains two inhabited worlds, including Ineffra, the Daeris homeworld. Once at the forefront of advancement and development in the Alliance, the system is still recovering from the disastrous failure of the Daeris Uprising and the damage wrought by the Alliance’s invasion. The last occupying forces, largely Talvostan, were only removed a few years ago.

Sirron: Felinari word for armor or armored.

Sirron-Felikhai: Lit: armored soldier. Term for heavy infantry.

Snevan Dominance: The name of the Snevan government, centered in the Selakar system. While only two Snevan-held worlds are considered full Alliance worlds, they have a moderate to significant presence on several unoccupied systems close to their home system. The Dominance is currently ruled by Supreme Warlord Sarkan.

Snevans: The Snevans are a large, largely avian species, though they have some reptilian features as well, being largely feathered, but with tough scales in some places (generally some shade of red in color), and have two small, almost vestigial fangs protruding from their beaks. The Snevans have a long and war-filled history, which still manifests on occasion and is often cited as a reason Snevans are often loud, intense, and sometimes volatile. However, they have largely abandoned their old conquering ways.

Solas Research and Development Facility: A massive Legion Navy military research and development facility on the planet Daukar, in the Bondar system. It is one of the most secretive and well-protected lo
cations in the Galactic Alliance, and has been the source of numerous technological advances, both military and civilians.

Srei Felikhai: Felinari term for lower ranking officer. Lit: Soldier officer, male form.

Srei Felitzvah: Felinari term for grand admiral. Lit: officer of the army, feminine form.

Srei Maviiri: Felinari term for commander of the Maviiri, used to refer to the commander of the Maviiri Detzak unit. Lit: Officer of the bringers, shortened from Srei Maviiri Detzak.

Standard: The common language of the Galactic Alliance, used for interplanetary diplomacy and trade. The language, the primary Tehlman dialect, was adopted as the official language of the Alliance largely due to the ubiquitous presence of the Tehlmans, one of the founding members of the Alliance.
