Caro gave a sigh of pure contentment. “It must be something in the water. Did you run your idea past Connor and Tyler?”
“About us taking over Recoveries International and basing it here, at the Double B?” Gabe nodded. “They said to count them in, princess. Neither of them wants to leave the ranch, but let’s face it, with the millions Del got from the sale of Crawford Solutions, he and Daniel and MacLeish aren’t only going to be able to expand the teen boot-camp operation, but they’re talking of taking on more help. Con and Tye felt the time was right to strike out on their own with me.”
“It still seems unbelievable that Jess didn’t change his will when he turned against Del, but I suppose he assumed that wouldn’t be necessary, given his plan. Del was right when he said the best use for that money was to build futures for the teens who are sent here.” Caro’s gaze darkened. “Harmon and his son Jess both did their best to destroy what the Double B has come to stand for. They didn’t realize that when the two generations of men who cared about this place joined together, the force for good you created could never be defeated.”
She shook her head and the somberness in her gaze was replaced with mischievous happiness. Leaning closer to the man she loved, she murmured into his ear. “But let’s get back to talking about babies and pregnancies and futures. You’re not the only one who’s going to get a new little brother or sister in the coming year, Gabe. Emily is, too—eight and a half months from now.”
Incredulous joy spread over his face. “You mean you’re—we’re—”
Gabriel Riggs had come home, Caro thought lovingly as Gabe, his voice too full of emotion to continue, gathered her tightly to his chest.
And home was a place called the Double B…
