Reaching under his pillow, Fury pulled out a small white box and placed it in the hand Pippa had laying on his chest. Sitting up, his mate furrowed her brow, and asked, “What’s this? We agreed no presents.”
“Ye agreed. I kept me mouth shut” He winked and pointed, “Open it and see.”
Lifting the lid, Pippa gasped as the ring Fury’s father had given to his mother came into view.
“What the... no way. This is too much. Dammit, Fury, you’re gonna make me cry again.”
“It’s no too much. It is yers and I will no rest until it’s on yer finger.”
“But, Fury…”
“But nothing, mo chroí. It was my mother’s, and I’ve carried it every day since she and da went to the Heavens, waiting to find you.”
“But it’s just…”
“It’s just yers. Now, hush and let me put it on yer finger.”
Not waiting for Pippa’s response, Fury took her left hand in his and slid the ring onto her finger. After a moment of admiring what had been in his family for generations, he explained its significance. “This ring has been worn by the mate of the eldest son of the Clan MacTavish since our beginning. The purple diamond in the center, the rarest of all diamonds, just as the pure purple dragons are the rarest of our kin, signifies the loyalty we have to our own. The diamonds surrounding it stand for the original twelve knights from Clan MacTavish who fought alongside King Arthur even before we were dragon. The white diamond at the top is for the wisdom of our people and the protection of body, mind and soul we offer our mates.”
When he looked up, tears were streaming down Pippa’s beautiful face. Fury couldn’t help but bark with laughter as she cuddled against his chest, grumbling, “Look what you did. You made me cry.”
It took a few minutes for his sassy mate to regain control, but when she did, Pippa sat back and looked him in the eyes, her expression making him feel whole and as if he could face anything with her by his side. “Thank you, Fury, so very, very much. I love you more every second that we’re together.”
Pausing as his love for his incredible mate overflowed, clogging his throat, and making his heart nearly beat from his chest, Fury murmured the way of true mates. “You, an chuid is fearr de mo chroí, have made all my dreams come true. I love you, now, forever, always.”
