  “You really are insatiable.”

In response, he kissed me and laughed. “I can never have enough of you, Betsy. You’re like the sweetest mix of honey and ecstasy around. Once you get one taste, it will never be enough.” His dark eyes surveyed me for a few seconds and then he grunted and jumped up off of the bed. “Come on.” He pulled me up. “Let me wash myself off of you.” He touched the drying cum on my stomach and groaned. “That was stupid. I never do that,” he muttered.

  “What’s that?”

“The pullout method.” He looked wry as he pulled my body alongside his. “It’s the least effective form of birth control.” He shook his head. “But I wanted to feel myself inside of you.”

“It’s okay. I said yes.” I reached down to touch his cock. “And you pulled out before you came, so we should be okay.”

“You don’t know how hard that was to do,” he whispered into my ear. “I wanted to come inside of you so badly. I wanted to feel you coming on my cock as I released myself inside of you.” He groaned and pulled away. “You’re like a drug to me, Betsy.”

“Well, you’re like a drug to me as well.” I kissed him hard.

“I don’t know what we’re going to say to Nolan.” He closed his eyes for a second. “He’s going to kill me if I get you pregnant.”

“What?” My heart stopped for a few seconds. “What are you talking about?”

“I pulled out when I was ready to come, but it’s not a foolproof way to avoid pregnancy, Betsy.”

“I know, but the chances of that are unlikely.”

“We’ll have to wait and see. When’s your period due?”

“Not for two weeks,” I said. “I could always get the morning after pill if you’re worried.”

“I’m not worried.” He kissed me again. “Let’s go in the shower now. All I can think about is taking you over and over again.”

  Chapter 15

  Jeff

Betsy’s body was snuggled next to mine as I woke up, her ass pushed up against my cock, and I groaned as I realized I was hard. I reached my hands around her body to play with her breasts and she arched her back into my chest.

“Morning, handsome.” She smiled sweetly as she looked back at me.

“Morning, gorgeous,” I said, kissing her shoulder. She started gyrating her hips, and I reached a finger forward to play with her clit. “You’re such a naughty girl.”

“You’re such a bad boy.” She rolled over on top of me, sitting right on top of my hardness and letting it rub between her legs. “Why didn’t you let me handcuff you last night?”

“Because you might have left me tied up.” I grinned at her. “I can’t have that.”

  “I would never do that.”

“Of course, you wouldn’t.” I stretched and yawned slightly.

“Are you still tired?” She looked guilty as I nodded slightly. “Do you wish you had gone home?”

“Nope,” I said honestly. “I like being in bed with you.”

“This is two nights in a row now,” she said, her eyes resting on me, searching for something that made me feel nervous.

“Is it?” I hadn’t noticed, but of course, I had. Because even though I was yawning, I’d had the best sleep that I’d experienced in a while, and I felt more content than I could ever remember feeling. “Two nights in a row, and still I haven’t been served breakfast in bed.”

  “Where’s my breakfast in bed?”

“Stay at my place tonight, and I’ll make you breakfast tomorrow morning.”

“Really?” She looked shocked. I just kissed her on the forehead in response.

“Really.” I got out of bed. “Now, we both need to shower and get ready for work—separately.” I couldn’t stop staring at her as she jumped up out of bed. “Unfortunately, if I shower with you right now, I will need to fuck you as well, and we don’t have time for that.”

“Fine.” She pouted, and I just laughed. As I leaned over to kiss her, I noticed her phone screen was full of missed calls. “Wow, how many times did Jules and Nolan call you?”

She picked up her phone and went to her missed calls list, and I noticed that she’d also had several calls from Nick. I waited for her to say something, but she just put her phone back down. I thought back to what her nanna had said about Nick being the one for Betsy, and I grew angry. How could she possibly feel that way? Nick was a nobody in Betsy’s life. Having a crush on her in high school didn’t mean anything. He hadn’t been in town for years. How could he still want to be with her? The dude was weird. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that he was some sort of psychopath. I was going to have to run a check on him through the federal and state databases to see if I could find any records on him. I’d probably find he’d done time for stalking at some point in his life. Loser.

“What are you thinking?” Betsy asked me softly, and I just shook my head and kissed her.

“Nothing. Just that I need to get to work.”

“So, am I going to see you tonight?” she asked, and I realized that this was exactly what I didn’t want. This was how a relationship started. This was how feelings started. “I promise I’ll put out, but only if you buy me dinner first.” She smiled at her joke, and I slapped my forehead as if just remembering something.

“Aww, damn. I just remembered I need to work late tonight, and then I think I have a meeting with the sheriff early tomorrow morning, and then I have the auction committee tomorrow evening.” I looked away from her. “But I’ll text and let you know.”

  “Okay.”

Her voice was so soft and disappointed that I almost relented and told her that I’d cancel everything just to spend some time with her. But I squared my shoulders and headed to the bathroom. This was for the best. I shouldn’t have slept with her. I’d already done some damage, and I just prayed that if I stayed away from her for a bit that we could just move on with our lives as normal.

  Chapter 16

  Betsy

  Stella: Any word?

  Betsy: Nope.

Jules: I’m going to tear that motherfucker apart. Limb by limb.

  Betsy: :(

  Stella: I’m going to help.

  Abby: Me too.

Betsy: I guess that he hit it and quit it, so to speak.

Stella: I just can’t believe that Jeff would do that.

Betsy: Well, it’s been a week. I haven’t seen or heard from him since we hooked up.

Jules: He’s an asshole. I should tell Nolan.

  Betsy: No! No! No!

Jules: Fine … But I really want to.

Betsy: It won’t help. It’s fine. Plus we said it would only be one time. I guess I just hoped it would be more than one time.

Jules: You gave yourself to him, and this is what he does?

Stella: Yeah, he’s really a jerk. I can’t believe it.

  Betsy: I’m a fool.

Abby: You went to the gyno, right?

Betsy: Yeah, too early to tell if I’m pregnant, but STD tests were clear.

Jules: I’m so mad at you.

  Betsy: I know. I was a fool.

Jules: If you’re weren’t so sad, I would kill you as well.

Betsy: I got caught up in the moment. I just really wanted to feel him, you know.

  Stella: Skin to skin.

  Abby: Raw dogging.

  Betsy: Guys.

Jules: The worst part was knowing he was going down on you while I was there in the room. Like, does he have no respect?!

Betsy: He wasn’t going down on me.

Stella: It’s kinda hot, in a porno type of way.

  Jules: It was not hot.

  Betsy: I’m so embarrassed.

Stella: Betsy, look up. The mayor just said your name.

  Betsy: Oops. Thanks.

I quickly slipped my phone back into my purse and looked up at the mayor. “Sorry, can you repeat that, please?”

Beside me, Jules tried to stifle a guilty giggle. She was totally going to give awa
y the fact that we’d all been sitting here in the meeting texting each other. I felt like a naughty school kid and only hoped that no one would ask to see our phones.

“Betsy, I said that as you’re aware, Nick Campbell has donated ten thousand dollars on your behalf so that you don’t have to have to run the kissing booth if you don’t want to.”

“Oh, but I want to.” I blushed and looked at the girls next to me. “Did you know?” I asked Jules, whose face was slightly pink as she nodded. “If Jeff can run one for the Bachelor Auction, I’m definitely running one for the Bachelorette Auction.”

“But Nick Campbell insisted on donating the money.”

“Just use that money as his bid for a date with Betsy, then,” Jules suggested. “That way he actually gets something for his donation.”

“Good idea, Julia.” The mayor nodded and scribbled something down. “Now, onto the logistics. The event will be held next weekend at the Canyon Beach Recreation Center. Malcolm has assured me that he and Julia will publish all vital information in a couple of days, and he’s coordinating with the other newspapers in the state to get the pertinent information out.” The mayor continued droning on and I pulled out my phone again.

Betsy: What the hell? Why is Nick bidding $10,000 on me? This is getting ridiculous.

Jules: Give him a chance. You know he’s always liked you.

Betsy: What are you talking about?

  Jules: Nanna told me.

  Abby: Ooh??

Stella: Guys, the mayor is totally staring at us right now. I feel like I’m going to laugh.

Jules: Don’t laugh. Just lean back and casually nod as if in agreement with what he’s saying.

Betsy: What did Nanna tell you?

Jules: Well, first it was Old Man Campbell who was telling Nanna, and I just happened to be there.

  Betsy: Oh?

Jules: Yeah. Remember I told you Old Man Campbell mentioned that Nick was asking about your situation?

  Betsy: Uh-huh.

Jules: Well, it turns out Nick had a crush on you back in the day, and he was going to ask you out.

  Betsy: No way.

  Stella: OMG! Wow.

  Abby: True Love!! <3

Jules: Yup, but he was warned to back off.

  Stella: Oh, shit!

  Abby: Wow, Nolan is crazy.

Jules: He was told that if he even looked at you, he would lose his ball sack.

Betsy: What?? I don’t believe you.

Stella: Damn, go Nolan! He’s a bit overprotective, though!

Jules: It wasn’t Nolan who threatened him.

Betsy: Who was it then? Not Nanna?

  Stella: Oh, shit!

  Abby: OMG! Tell us who.

Jules: It was that dickwad, Jeff.

  Stella: OMG! OMG!

  Abby: What the fuck?

  Betsy: You’re lying.

Jules: Nope. It was Jeff. Turns out that he warned off more than one guy.

Betsy: What? How do you know?

Jules: I asked Nolan. Don’t worry, I didn’t say anything about you and Jeff. He thought it was funny. He was like, bet she never knew she had two protective older brothers, and he started going on about how much Jeff looked at you like a sister. I wanted to say I don’t know many brothers that fuck their sisters, but obviously I kept my mouth shut.

  Stella: Whoa.

Betsy: But why did he do that? Ugh. He’s so infuriating.

Abby: Honestly, I don’t get him or any men.

Jules: Nolan thinks that he never has long relationships because he’s scared about commitment because his mom is a manic depressive or something.

Betsy: You never told me that.

Jules: He only told me a couple of days ago. I forgot because I’ve been too busy hating Jeff to care about his home life.

Betsy: He did mention something about his mom and dad to me, but I never really thought it was anything real. More like an excuse to not want to be in a relationship.

  Jules: Hmm, who knows?

Abby: I vote for Nick. Give him a shot.

Stella: Ugh, this is hard. I love me some Jeff, but I’m thinking Nick as well.

  Betsy: I love Jeff, though.

Jules: Oh man! I was so worried this would happen.

Betsy: I know you hate him, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and just because you haven’t seen all his good sides doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them.

  Jules: If you say so.

Betsy: But maybe I should go on a date with Nick to try to get over Jeff.

  Stella: I support this plan.

Abby: Me too. You got to get under a new man to forget the old one.

  Betsy: Abby!

Abby: What? It’s true. I bet Nick will end up being better in bed than Jeff ever was.

Betsy: I can’t lie, Jeff will be hard to beat. He was huge.

Jules: TMI. BTW guys, the meeting just ended and almost everyone has left the room already.

I looked up from my phone and the girls I and laughed guiltily as we stood up and put our phones away.

“Wanna go for a drink?” Stella asked, but Jules and I shook our heads.

“I have to meet Nolan for something,” she muttered, and I wondered why she sounded so annoyed.

“No, I want to just go home and sleep.” I sighed. “I haven’t been sleeping well.” Instead of sleeping, I’d spent the last week staring at the screen on my phone hoping for Jeff to call or text me. Of course, he hadn’t, and I’d spent each day hating him just a little bit more.

“I’ll join you.” Abby smiled. “I need a stiff drink to forget my asshole boss.”

“Aw, you really need to quit,” Stella said, and Abby just made a face.

  “Soon,” she replied. “Soon.”

“I’ll see you guys later.” I gave all the girls a quick hug then made my way out of the hall and hurried home. I was passing the Canyon Beach Ice Cream Shop when I saw Nolan and Nick hanging outside chatting and I walked over to them.

“Hey, the meeting is done. Jules is on her way to meet you,” I told Nolan as I approached them.

He looked confused as he responded. “No, she isn’t. We’re not spending the night together. I have to go out of town on a photo shoot early tomorrow, and she didn’t want me to wake her up.”

“Oh.” I snapped my mouth shut, wondering why Jules had lied.

“How’s your evening going?” Nick asked me, his blue eyes sparkling.

“It’s great.” I stepped forward. “Why did you donate ten thousand dollars to the auction for me?”

“Huh?” He narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”

“I’m not really sure why you’re so interested in me. I mean it’s cool, and you’re handsome and all, but I haven’t seen you in years and you’re coming on so strong and this is … well frankly, it’s all a bit weird.”

“Betsy!” Nolan chided me. “That’s no way to speak to your admirer.”

“Hmm …” Nick looked uncomfortably at me and then at Nolan. “I’m not sure what to say. It’s true, yes, I had a huge, huge crush on you in high school, and I would have loved to have dated you, but that didn’t happen. I would like to take you on a date, but I never donated ten thousand dollars to anything in your name.” He shook his head in confusion. “I just took out a fifty thousand dollar loan from the bank to open my surf store.” He gave me a wry smile. “I don’t have any money to just be giving away.”

“Yeah, I remember you mentioned that.” I rubbed my temple. Nothing was adding up here. Why would the mayor say that Nick had donated the money when it was so clear that he hadn’t? I yawned. All I wanted to do was go to bed. I gave them both a smile and covered my mouth as another yawn hit me. “Hey, guys, good seeing you, but I’m tired. I’m going to call it a night.”

“You need a ride home, sis?” Nolan looked concerned, but I just shook my head and gave him a quick hug.

“I’m okay. I can walk home.”

“Hope to see you soon, Betsy.” Nick smiled.
“Maybe we can figure out a good time for our date.”

“Yeah, that would be nice.” I gave him a little wave before turning to walk home. I stared at the night sky as I walked down the street and I wondered what Jeff was up to. Maybe Veronica had shown back up at his house, and he’d decided to take her up on her offer. Being with her wouldn’t be as complicated as being with me. A tear rolled down my cheek. I’d tried to play it as cool as possible earlier, but I was devastated by what had happened. I felt used and dirty. Jeff had had his way with me and discarded me as if I was nothing. I couldn’t believe that he hadn’t called me or texted me and I refused to call him. I hated him for doing this to me. I hated him for being that guy. I knew that I would never forgive him for ignoring me. He was an even bigger asshole than I’d ever thought he could be.

  Chapter 17

  Jeff

Water dripped down my face as the doorbell rang. I wrapped a towel around my waist and headed to the front door, praying that it wasn’t Veronica back to seduce me. Momentarily, I thought it might be Betsy, but I knew that was just a wish. I felt like shit for not having been in contact with her in the last week, but I’d needed some time to figure things out.

I opened up the door and my jaw dropped. Jules stood there, glaring.

“What are you doing here?” I asked. “Is Betsy okay?”

“She’s fine.” She made a face. “Well, she’s not fine, but she’s not sick or anything. You going to let me in?”

“You’re not worried someone else might already be here?”

She scoffed as she gazed at my wet body, only a towel covering me. “Yeah, right.” She rolled her eyes as she stepped into the hallway. “We need to talk, Evian.”

“Oh?” I was surprised at the stern tone. Jules goofed and joked around. I’d never seen this side to her.

“Yeah, and I need a beer. You got any?” She walked past me and into the kitchen, then pointed at my suitcase, which still sat in the hallway. “You going somewhere?”

  “Nope.”

  “Just got back from somewhere?”
