“No, nothing like that. But…I’d like to say our vows again. This time for real.” She waited a little anxiously, unsure whether he’d think the idea was silly.

He smiled and sat on the bed. “Do you want to go first or should I?”

  “I’ll go first.”

  “Give me your hands.”

She put her hands in his. “Tucker, when I first asked you to marry me I thought you’d be the perfect temporary husband. But it didn’t take me very long to discover that you are the perfect husband for me and that I want our marriage to last the rest of our lives. You’re my best friend, and my lover, and I want very much for you to be my husband. For always. Because I love you more than I can say.”

He smiled at her, such a tender expression in his eyes she thought she’d drown in them. Tears started in her own eyes as he spoke. “Maggie, when you first cooked up this scheme I thought you were nuts. I told myself I’d marry you to help you out. I didn’t realize that it would take me about a week to fall totally in love with you. So here’s to crazy schemes and to the one woman in the world who is making my dreams come true. Dreams I didn’t even know I had until I married you. I promise to love you, cherish you, and every year on the anniversary of the day you asked me to marry you, I promise to dream up something just as crazy for us to do together.”

Maggie laughed through her tears. “I love you. You are such a nut.”

He took her face in his hands and kissed her soundly. “I love you, too, Mrs. Jones. And that makes us perfect together.”

  About seven months later

TUCKER BENT DOWN to kiss the soft hair on his newborn son’s head. “He’s so amazing. He’s incredible.” He kissed Maggie and sat on the bed beside her. “And so is his mother.”

“Isn’t he perfect?” Love swamped her as she looked at her baby. “Look, his fingers are so tiny.” She picked up one of his tiny fists and kissed it. “Do you want to hold him?”

“Absolutely.” He held out his arms and she transferred the baby into them. “What are we going to name him? I have an idea if you don’t.”

She stroked the baby’s cheek. “He looks like you, Tucker. And what makes you think I don’t have any ideas?”

“Oh, maybe because you refused to discuss names the entire pregnancy.”

“I do have an idea. But let’s hear yours first.”

“I thought since Grace is the reason we married in the first place, we should name the baby after her. But I’m not naming my son Grace.”

Maggie laughed. “No, I think the other kids might tease him if we did that.”

“Let’s name him Davis, for Grace’s last name.”

“You must be a mind reader.” She put her hand on the baby’s head and smiled at Tucker and their son. “Welcome to the world, Davis Tucker Jones.”
