The crowd went wild, yelling out questions and taking pictures. But Will held up his hand and shepherded Annie back over to the helicopter. He wasn’t dealing with the press for a while.
“I wasn’t going to vote for him anyway,” Lou said, smiling.
Just outside the helicopter, Annie squeezed Will’s hand. “I need one more thing from you,” she said.
Will laughed. He was so grateful to have Annie back, and to have her believe in him again. “Always on the hustle, huh?” he asked. “Let’s hear it.”
Annie pulled up a second finger on Will’s hand and then nodded to Grace. “Stop playing games.”
Will smiled and let go of Annie. “That’s an easy one.” Then he turned and walked over to Grace. “Not knowing what I have in front of me has been a problem of mine for a long time,” he said to her. “But I’m learning.” He reached out and took Grace’s hand. “Will you have dinner with me?”
“What?” Grace asked, stunned.
“I can’t function without you,” Will said, smiling. “And I don’t mean just at work. You were right about this whole mayor thing. And about Guy. And about last quarter’s earnings. And about —”
Grace smiled, reached up, and kissed him. Everyone cheered.
Then Will walked Grace over to Annie and pulled them both into a hug. “Family?” he asked. Both girls nodded, and Will grinned. “Together at last.”
Annie smiled wider than she ever had in her life. “Together forever!”
