Strike (Alien Breed Series 3.1 - English Edition) Page 6

by Melody Adams

"My cell phone," she explained and fished the piece out of the bag. "Yes?"

I held my breath with tension. Was it Ice, Miri was talking to, and what would he say? Miri looked at me and nodded with a smile.

  "That's wonderful. Yes."

My heart began to beat. Strike was free?

Miri ended the conversation and I looked at her expectantly.

"Strike's indictment was dropped and he was placed under Senator Bridgefort responsibility. They're on their way to the airport now and will be here in about three hours!"

I fell into her arms sobbing.

"Thank you," I mumbled in tears.

"For what, sweetie? I really didn't have anything to do with it," Miri said, laughing. "Come! We have to celebrate with a glass of wine. I'll get us a bottle. Senator Bridgefort said we should feel at home."

  Strike

I couldn't believe it. I was really free. Ice sat next to me staring out the window. The senator sat opposite us in the private jet. He had buried himself into a newspaper.

"I have to find Alex," I said, and Ice turned his gaze away from the window. His face was as impenetrable as usual as he looked at me with his unusual albino eyes.

"You can take care of that later. First you come with me to the senator and we celebrate your freedom. There is also a surprise waiting for you!"

"I'm not in the mood for a party or any surprises. I want my mate!"

"Your mate?" Ice asked with raised eyebrows. "You have it bad for this girl, huh?"

"She's MINE," I replied growling and I thought I saw a touch of amusement on Ice's features.

  "You'll get her, man!"

"I'm not going to Eden without my mate!"

  "You won't either!"

"But what if I can't find her in time? I am wasting precious time when I celebrate my freedom now!"

"You will take her with you to Eden! You have my word on it!"

The limo stopped in front of a large house, similar to the one where Alex and I had been held prisoner. I breathed deeply. Someone opened the door and the senator stepped out first. Then Ice followed, and finally I climbed out of the car.

"Welcome to my humble abode," said Senator Bridgefort. "Let's go into the house!"

We walked towards the steps leading up to the front door when the door was opened and a graceful figure appeared. I stopped as if frozen. I heard Ice laughing softly next to me, and then he patted me on the back.

"Will you not greet your mate, man?"

I stared at her. She stared back. Insecurity and pain appeared on her features and I knew it was my fault. I had let her believe that I didn’t want her. Her eyes were reddened as if she had cried. Another woman appeared behind her. That had to be Miri, Ice's mate.

  "Alex," I rasped.

Then I set myself in motion, slowly at first, but the closer I came, the more my steps accelerated, until I almost flew up the steps to pull her into my arms.

  Alex

There he was, and I wasn't able to move or make a sound. Was Miri really right? Would he want me? He didn't look very happy to see me. Rather shocked! Then he set himself in motion and approached me. My heart raced like crazy and there was such a turmoil in my guts that I felt like I had to throw up from excitement any moment. Tears were pouring out of my eyes. He was speeding up, flying towards me now, and then I was jerked into a brutal embrace that literally took my breath away.

"Slowly, you idiot," I heard Miri's worried voice. "You squeeze her to death."

"Sorry," Strike whispered and he relaxed his hold a bit.

  I gasped for air.

"I'm sorry," he muttered. "I am so sorry! I didn't want to treat you badly. I only did it to protect you. I am so sorry!"

Only now did I realize that I was sobbing without restraint. I looked up at him and saw the care and love in his eyes.

"I thought you didn't want me anymore," I sobbed.

"I know. That was also what I wanted you to believe, so that you would have it easier to forget me!"

"Easier? You think it was easier?" I shouted.

"I know I made a mistake. I am an idiot. But I am an idiot who loves you, baby. Forgive me! Please!"

I wrapped my arms around his neck and he bent down to me. As our lips touched, I sobbed again, but this time with relief. He kissed me like a man possessed, and I returned his kiss with the same desperate devotion. We forgot everything around us until someone cleared his throat loudly.

"As reluctant as we are to interrupt this happy reunion, we should slowly go into the house. We have to celebrate," the senator's amused voice reached my ear.

Strike hesitantly let go of me. Our eyes met.

"Will you come with me to Eden, Alex?" He asked and I thought I saw fear in his green eyes.

"Yes," I replied and Strike's face lit up as he pulled his sensual lips into a broad smile.

"Come on, kids," said Senator Bridgefort.

Strike took my hand and we followed the others inside the house. I could hardly believe my luck. The man I loved was back and I knew nothing and nobody could separate us anymore.

West-Colony, in the orbit of Eden

  April 25, 2033 / 6:56 a.m. local time

  Strike

I was staring out of the shuttle’s window at the planet we were approaching. This was the home of my people. It would now also be my home. And Alex's. My gaze slid towards her and a tender feeling came over me. I took her hand and squeezed it lightly. She squeezed back and gave me a smile.

"Are you excited?" Miriam asked and took Ice' hand.

  Ice nodded.

"Me too," confessed his mate with a smile.

"Is it true that there are savages here?" Alex wanted to know.

"There are natives here, yes," confirmed Senator Bridgefort. "But they live secluded in the jungle. It's safe in the colony."

"I won't let you out of my sight, baby," I assured.

"I already see houses," Miriam exclaimed excitedly.

I looked out of the window again and took in the sight of the colony.

"It almost looks like Brazil," Alex said. "Wow, it's fantastic!"

We approached the colony pretty fast, until the pilot slowed down the speed and the shuttle leisurely stopped at the runway. It was a bit bumpy when we made the first contact with the ground. I would never admit it, but my stomach was quite queasy. I was glad when we would finally have solid ground under our feet again. When the shuttle finally stood still, we hastily loosened our belts. Everyone wanted to get out as soon as possible. The senator went first, then Ice and Miriam. I took Alex by the hand and followed the others. Outside, four Alien Breeds awaited us, who greeted us with a broad grin.

  "Senator," said one of them.

"Freedom! Nice to see you. I bring you four new faces. The colony is growing!" The senator laughed and Freedom returned the laughter.

The four Alien Breed looked at us with interest. I pulled Alex closer to me, wanted to make it clear to the other men that Alex was mine.

"Freedom, may I introduce you? This is Miriam and Ice!" He pointed to my friend and his mate before giving Alex and me a hint to get closer. "And here we have Alex and Strike. Alex is the short form of Alexandra."

The Alien Breed nodded with a friendly smile. Senator Bridgefort turned to us.

"And of course you also wanted to know who you are dealing with. So, this is Freedom. He runs the colony. Then here we have Rage, Happy and Steel. You'll probably need a while to get to know everyone, but I'm sure you'll feel comfortable here. The mood in the colony is very good, isn't it, Freedom?"

  Freedom nodded.

"We have only recently grown. Toxic and his girlfriend have only been here three days. Toxic is our youngest Alien Breed at nineteen. I've heard there's supposed to be another lab that hasn't been discovered yet?"

  "Yes," confirmed Ice.

"We're working on it," Senator Bridgefort interfered.

"Okay," said the Alien Breed, who was introduced by the
senator as Steel. "How about we go to the jeeps now and drive to your new accommodations? Later we could meet for a beer at the clubhouse."

"Oh, you have beer here?" Alex asked.

  Steel grinned.

"Yes, we have some very good beers. Chilled, of course."

"Wonderful," Alex shouted, delighted. "Then let's move. I'm looking forward to a cold beer!"

  Alex

I raised the glass to my mouth and drank a deep draught.

"Hmmm," I said when I had put the glass down and wiped the foam off my mouth. "Good!"

"Yes, it's great that they have this place," Miri agreed with me. "I don't think I'm going to miss Earth very much."

"I certainly won't," I said and leaned against Strike's shoulder.

I would be happy anywhere if only Strike was with me. But of course it helped that it was really beautiful here on Eden. We had a nice bungalow with a little garden, and great people around us. I got along very well with Miri, and all the other women were also very nice. Same as the Alien Breeds.

"Tomorrow there will be a karaoke competition here in the clubhouse," said Jessie, Rage’s mate and a doctor here on Eden. "Any of you interested in taking part?"

"I'd rather not," I replied laughing. "I sing terribly."

"Alina has a beautiful voice," Toxic, the youngest Alien Breed, threw in.

"Oh no," said the young girl, holding her hands up. "I would be so nervous, I wouldn't get a sound out!"

"Aww, come on," said Jessie. "Stop selling yourself short. I'll put you on the list with me. At the billiard tables there is a list of songs, there you can enter which song you would like to perform."

"I don't know," Alina said and looked helplessly up at her mate. Toxic smiled encouragingly at her.

"Come on," he said. “You’ll do fine. "

"Okay! I'll do it," Alina sighed.

  "Perfect," Jessie replied, satisfied.

"What is with the other Alien Breed? The one that got also freed?" Pearl wanted to know. The daughter of the president and mated to Hunter, looked at us expectantly.

"He's in therapy," Ice explained. "And as I've heard, his therapist is quite attractive!" He winked and Miri giggled.

I looked at Miri. Considering what Player had done to her, it was amazing that she could actually feel sympathy for him. She was really an amazing woman. Everyone here was special and lovable in his or her own way. Amazed, I realized, that for the first time in my life I really felt at home.

Strike pressed me closer to him.

"Everything okay?" He whispered in my ear.

"Yes," I replied. "But I would now like to go home and be alone with you."

"I am all for it, baby," Strike whispered, with a promise of hot passion in his rough voice. A pleasant tingling spread over my whole body and suddenly I felt very hot.

"Do you like it here?" I asked later when I was lying in Strike's arms.

  "Hmmm."

"Was that a yes?" I sat up and nudged my sleepy Alien Breed into the side.

"Yes, that was a yes," he grumbled. His hand slowly stroked my back up and down. "And what about you? Do you think you can be happy here?"

"Yes! I feel good here. And you are with me. That is the most important thing for me. I would be happy with you anywhere."

"I feel the same," Strike replied. "My home is where you are."

"Would you ... Do you want children?" I asked with a beating heart.

"It would be nice to have children with you," he said. "But you are the most important thing. If you didn't want any, I'd still be happy with you."

"Why do you think that I don't want any?" I asked, astonished.

"Because you were so nervous when you asked the question, as if you feared my answer. I thought that maybe you didn't want kids and thought I would expect it of you."

"It's actually the other way around. I was afraid you wouldn't want kids. That would be pretty awkward, because ..."

"Because what?" He asked when I stopped speaking.

"Because I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant. I'm three days overdue and that's actually abnormal with me."

Strike pulled me down to him again.

"That would be wonderful. You should stop by Jessie in the clinic tomorrow, so she can examine you."

"Yes, I will," I said and yawned. Suddenly I also felt very sleepy. It had been an exciting day.

"Sleep, baby", Strike whispered and kissed me on the cheek.

  "Hmmm."

  "I love you, Alex."

  "I love you too."
