Dirty Little Secret Santa (A Santa's Coming Short Story) Page 3

by Alexis Adaire

Grayson and I stay up talking until dawn.

Well, talking and fucking. We have a ridiculous sexual chemistry, so talking only lasts until we eventually end up doing something dirty.

“I don’t know about you, but I think we should keep seeing each other.”

It’s the understatement of the year, and I’m thrilled that he feels that same. I want to play with him a little before I give in completely, though.

“I don’t know, we only have one friend in common, and that’s Santa.”

  Grayson suddenly looks serious.

  “Callie, there’s something I haven’t told you.”

  Oh, no. Here it comes.

  There’s always something. Always.

“What?” I ask, already dreading his response.

“This is going to sound weird, okay?”

I scowl because I don’t have the patience for games at the moment.

“I told Santa I wanted a good woman for Christmas. A good, hot woman.”

I laugh, then realize he’s still serious. “You wrote him a letter?”

“No, don’t be absurd. A Santa came by our station to deliver toys to the kids, and afterward he asked me what I wanted for Christmas. That’s what I told him.”

“And you think he led you to me?”

“I don’t know. But first there was the Facebook hack. And when we both ignored it, there was the OKCupid hack. Then the party and your dead battery. We kept ignoring these signs or whatever they were. Then the smoke bomb at your apartment complex.”

This is all sounding a little too coincidental to be ignored.

Grayson continues. “We saw the security footage from the parking garage. Some little person dressed in an elf costume set that bomb, then ran off down the street.”

  “What? You’re joking, right?”

  He shakes his head slowly.

“And what are the odds that at the moment we finally want to be together, a traffic jam stops us just feet from a first-class hotel like the Hotel Playa?”

  I laugh out loud.

“Okay, maybe that last part was just bad luck. But still.”

I’m beginning to think he’s serious about this Santa theory.

“Grayson, you don’t think…?” I suddenly remember sitting on the mall Santa’s lap and telling him I wanted a man for Christmas. A good man. A man exactly like the one laying naked next to me, who has been ravaging my body so perfectly all night long. “No. No way. That would be too weird.”

  “Too many coincidences.”

“But there is no Santa!” I say, trying to talk myself out of it.

“I don’t know, but the one I saw that day looked pretty damned legit.”

Come to think of it, the guy at the mall pretty much was Santa.

“So you’re saying Santa wanted to get us together to have a night of crazy dirty sex?” I ask.

“Maybe that’s it. Maybe Santa’s dirty little secret is that he likes to get hot couples together for sex, then he watches from the North Pole as they earn their place on the naughty list.”

“Dirty little secret Santa, huh?” I ask, laughing. “Watching intently as you fucked me senseless.”

“What if it’s for more than just sex?”

Grayson’s question surprises me. Hell, it shocks me. I definitely wasn’t ready for it.

  “What are you saying?”

“Hear me out, Callie. Maybe it wasn’t Santa Claus, but it sure seems like some higher power tried really hard to get us together, right?”

“It does seem that way. Thank God we finally listened.”

“Well what if that force wants us to stay together?” he asks.

  “Like, together together?”

Grayson nods and a sweet smile crosses his face. “What if this was meant to be? Fate, destiny, kismet and all that?”

I stare into those deep brown eyes and know beyond a doubt that I’m going to fall deeply in love with this man.

“I know it seems like a stretch, but maybe, just maybe—”

“But how could we know for sure?” I ask impatiently.

As we gaze into each other’s eyes, a single fat snowflake drifts slowly down from above, from the ceiling of this little hotel room. It floats right between us, finally landing on the blanket where it melts.

  In an instant it’s gone.

My entire body tingles a second later when I look up and see the excitement in the eyes of the man I suddenly know will be my future husband.

  One year later

  Grayson

I stand nervously, waiting for what seems like an eternity.

Number one, I hate tuxedos. They always seem tight around my shoulders and are so damned hot.

Number two, I’m about to get married. Sure, she’s the woman of my dreams, but I just want to get all of this over with so the two of us can get started on our honeymoon.

Hey, how could I not marry Callie? She’s everything I ever wanted in a woman. Sweet, kind, smart, funny, hard worker, and absolutely fucking gorgeous. And the sex? By far the best sex ever. Jaw-dropping, mind-boggling, amazing sex every damn time.

We decided on a Christmas wedding because it seemed appropriate. Not Christmas day, but a week before. In lieu of wedding gifts, we asked people to bring toys, wrapped and ready to be handed out to kid’s living in poor circumstances. Between the two of us, we have more than enough stuff and don’t really need anything but each other anyway.

I look out over our assembled friends and family and I’m so thankful for whatever it was that brought the two of us together.

I don’t even know why I said, “whatever it was.” Of course it was Santa Claus. What other explanation could there possibly be?

As it turns out, we’d both asked a suspiciously realistic Santa to bring us someone who would be good for us. What are the odds of that actually happening?

Add to that the hacked Facebook and OKCupid accounts, the dead battery, the mysterious snowfall in LA that nobody else saw, and the Santa smoke bomb detonated by an elf, and it’s obvious.

And the damn indoor snowflake, for fuck’s sake!

I may be turning thirty in a couple of years, but when it comes to Santa, I’m a believer.

  Five years later

  Callie

I have been deliriously happy for the last six years, but nothing could rival this particular moment.

I’m sitting on the front porch, watching Grayson play with our two kids and their new puppy. Grayson had always wanted a Dalmatian. Now that Nicholas is four and Miracle just turned two, and we just moved into our new house, we figured it was time. We named him Rudolph because it just seemed like the thing to do.

Grayson is the best thing that ever happened to me. At least until Nick and Miracle showed up. Now it’s a three-way tie.

Looking back on our beginnings as a couple, Grayson and I like to think that the two of us had experienced so much disappointment when it came to love that we’d grown cynical about ever finding the right person.

Someone had to step in to put us together. Of course, we were too clueless to recognize the obvious, so we had to keep being nudged again and again until we finally caught on.

Luckily for both of us, we finally gave in, and since then, life has just been one incredible, magical moment after another.

It was truly a match made in Heaven.

  Or maybe the North Pole.
