Craig Page 12

  He said, “Gina?”

  “Yeah?”

  “I love you.”

She looked away from the sky and into his eyes. Her face held joy and wonder, and she said, “I love you too.”

He took her hand. “I have to tell you though that we have to really work on your fighting alongside a dragon skills.”

She snorted. “Yeah, well, you need to learn how to drive.”

Their shared laughter followed them to the car and then along the streets of the city.

  Epilogue

Gina wriggled her way down Craig’s naked body; her hands stroked along his skin, and she took his staff in hand. It filled her palm; the long and pulsing rod sending little shivers of need and want racing through her central nervous system.

Craig purred a soft groan as her tongue came out and licked his head, swiping away the little drops of fluid that had gathered there. She had his rod down her throat, letting her tongue swirl up along the edges of the head, and he groaned again, his hips bucking upward into her face. In her throat, he went even stiffer, and his fingers clamped down in her hair, holding her in place as he began to thrust up and down, lost in the excitement and pleasure of her mouth.

His musky, masculine scent filled her nose, made her nipples stiffen. She worked harder, letting her fingers wander down to his balls. She cupped them in her hand and let her fingers wander over that slightly wrinkled and heavy flesh. Craig writhed, and another moan broke from his lips.

Gina saw his balls tighten and start to climb upward. She knew if she did not stop and soon, it would be too late. She moved upward and positioned herself above him. Her hips glided down, and she took him into her hot depths. His cry of pleasure was equaled by her own.

He filled her, took her and made her his. She let her hands fall to his chest for balance, and she lifted her hips so she could release him. She moved downward again, and his hands went to her breasts, and his fingers flicked across her nipples, making her quiver. Her wet depths took him in again, and she began to move faster, no longer willing to just let the sex spin out and be slow.

He kept up the pace she set. They gasped, and she collapsed forward, her head going to his shoulder as her ass jerked up and down and she began to spasm with the orgasm that had been building ever since he had undressed her and brought her into her bedroom.

She felt him release his seed inside her, his staff twitching hard and she gasped, her own body riding out the aftershocks of the orgasm. His hands stroked along the smooth skin of her back and then down the slopes of her ass. Gina gasped out, “You are going to kill me.”

He laughed and helped her get off his body and curl up next to him. He said, “I was just thinking the very same thing.”

She peered into his face. “How do we do this? I mean, how do we set it up so that when we come back, we can have our lives back?”

“There are dragons here, mostly changelings that do not really fit into our world, and human allies too. They will see to it that we have a reason to be gone and a reason to be back when we come back.” His eyes hooked onto hers. “Again, are you sure? Because it is dangerous over there.”

“I do not think it is any more dangerous over there than it is here if you want to know the truth. At least over there we have a clear idea of who the bad guys are.”

She slumped next to him, and the words she had wanted to say ever since Jack had put that gun to her head tumbled for her lips. “I trusted him, you know? I believed him and believed he was a good man, one who was a good cop and a good person. I used to go to his vacation house, along with half the force, and I always believed that he got it just like he said—by living in a rent-controlled studio and saving. Why did I not ever question that? You saw that place. No way could he have afforded it, not on a cop’s salary, not even like that.”

He soothed her with a soft hand laid on her cheek. “We had no way to know that property up there was that expensive. None of us ever lived up there. We bought that he got it at a bargain and did a lot of work on it himself to keep costs down and…well, all the rest of it. Maybe, well maybe what he said was partly right. It is really hard to live in a place where it is so obvious to see that rich are rich and just getting richer and that they do not give a damn about the pay of those they demand to protect them and their money. Maybe we all, myself included, were just happy one of us had done something so good. Or maybe we were all just so happy to get out of the city sometimes, get up there where the air is clean and all that, a place where we could forget things are so screwed up here in the city, that we did not want to ask those questions.”

“We should have asked. If we did not, what does that say about us?”

“That we are human. Well, mostly human.”

She smiled, but her heart was heavy. “I hate that he killed so many people who did not deserve to die and all so he could build that fortune and get out of here with it. I am so glad we caught him before he could get to that house he bought over in that country, but I do wish we had stopped him much sooner, or that someone had.”

“We stopped him. Sometimes you have to just concentrate on the victory, no matter how late it might be.”

A loud knock on the door jolted her upright. “What the hell? The food already got here?”

They exchanged looks. The heavy knock sounded again. A new fear formed, “Do you think maybe…”

“He had a partner? Could be.”

They were both up and moving. Craig dressed fast, and so did she. He had his gun at the ready, and he stepped behind the door while she peeped through the peephole. She glanced over at him and shook her head. He lifted a brow and stood there while she undid the chains and locks and said, “Hello, come in.”

Christy and Heather stepped inside. They smelled like dragons and held large shopping bags. Craig stepped into their view, and they smiled at him. Craig asked, “What’s up?”

Heather said, “We are on a mission. We got coffee. Oh, and chocolate. God yes, chocolate. Craig, we need you. Now. The Orcs have learned how to breach the portal between the Fae world and Dragon world. If we do not do something and fast, they are going to be over here, and you know how much they hate humans.”

Gina was already moving. She had all of her guns and her extra ammo in her hand and was moving to the bedroom to get a bag. Craig said, “I have to get more guns. We need weapons like ones we do not have over there. It should be seen by now that we need that.”

Heather said, “We got a lot already; Max and Blake charmed a guy at a gun store and took most of the guns and the ammo while we went shopping for this stuff. I would feel bad, but really the last thing this world needs are more guns in it, so that is that.”

Gina stepped back out into the living room. She took a long look around and then a deep breath. She said, “I’m ready.”

Craig looked at the bag she held and then at the other two women. He nodded. Gina caught his hand, and they headed out of her apartment. As the door closed behind her, a soft pang started in her heart. They would come back, she was sure of it. In the meantime, there were good cops in the city, guys like Peterson, who would have to do the job she was leaving behind. And when she came back? Would they settle back into this city or a new one?

She found herself thinking of a small town with good schools and a low crime rate. A good, safe place to raise a family.

  A family.

That thought gave her pause, but it was a good pause. They, she and Craig, were meant to be. It was their destiny to be together and one day, yes, one day, they would have a family.

Craig’s hand held hers. They stepped out of the apartment and then down the street to an alley. The rain had settled back in, and it obscured everything. Craig, Max, and Blake all changed. Gina climbed aboard her dragon’s broad and strong back, and he sailed upward into the sky, taking them back to his world and the war that waited for them there.

They would fight the Orcs and make it safe. Safe enough for Blake to finally have a child with Christy. Safe
enough for Max and Heather to raise the baby that she was carrying. Safe enough so they could return to the world they chose to live in. Safe enough to return to visit their friends, and for their friends to visit them. Safe enough to travel back and forth through the portal…..and be content.
