370Angle: JIM looks back at the MONK, slowing down. The group continues walking.
MOLLY: Yeah, well, then what about this? It moved me, I'm thinking about, I'll take holy orders.
NED: Holy orders.
MOLLY: Yeah.
NED: You're sure that's what you want to do . . . ?
MOLLY: Can you think of a better idea . . . ?
NED: A better idea . . . Yeah. Maybe I can . . . maybe I can.
JIM starts to lag behind. NED looks back at JIM.
371Point of View: JIM waves good-bye.
372Angle: NED looks quizzically at JIM. JIM waves toward him. Beat. NED waves back, starts back over the bridge toward Canada. JIM retreats toward the American side.
373Angle: MOLLY and NED walk together. CAMERA moves with them.
MOLLY: A better idea . . . well, you wanna share it with me, Father. . . ?
NED: All in good time, all in good time.
374Angle on the American Side: JIM walks up to the YOUNG MONK; they walk together back to the monastery. JIM picks a clothespin off a clothesline and clips it to his coat. CAMERA follows him up the steps of the monastery. He turns back.
375Exterior: The Canadian Side.
MOLLY and NED, walking, MOLLY holding the child.
MOLLY: You gonna share your idea with me, Father?
NED: Not Father. Ned.
MOLLY: Father Ned? You gonna—
NED: Just Ned.
MOLLY: You mean you're not—
He leans toward her, touches her face.
NED: I'm Ned.
She registers great surprise. The child begins to wake in her arms. NED looks from her face toward the monastery.
376Point of View: JIM by the water, the monastery behind him. JIM shrugs.
377Angle: NED with MOLLY. He shrugs. He gestures before him as if to say, “Do you want to come with me?” Beat. She takes his arm, and the two with the LITTLE GIRL walk farther into Canada.
378Interior/Exterior: Monastery—Chapel.
JIM and the YOUNG MONK. JIM turns into the monastery; the YOUNG MONK precedes him. They pass by the Shrine; CAMERA MOVES with them. As they pass, JIM looks up at the Shrine.
379Point of View: The Madonna, a tear on her cheek.
380Angle: JIM looks at the Madonna, then at the hole in the roof, dripping water on the Shrine.
381Close-up: The face of the Madonna with the tear falling.
382Angle: JIM looks at the Madonna.
JIM (to himself): They oughta get that thing fixed.
JIM moves deeper into the monastery. Two monks close the huge doors to the outside.
FADE OUT.
