Second Chance Girl Page 17

“Gray, you better get home in time for the wedding,” I say, and I can hear Gray chuckling on the other end of the line.

“Chill, dude,” he says. “I’ll be home in time. I’ll actually be home in a couple weeks.”

That surprises me. The wedding won’t be for another month or so. “A couple weeks? For how long?”

“Well,” Gray says, “For as long as it takes for me to figure out what my next career will be. I got fired from the show.”

“Shit, Gray,” I say, gripping the back of my neck. “That sucks man, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, it’s my own fault. Shouldn’t have ever dated my co-star. Problem is, I’m like a pariah now. I haven’t been able to land a gig in like a month, and I got bills to pay. I’m giving up acting and coming back to Rocky Point.”

I’m stunned by Gray’s news, considering the last thing I would have ever expected to hear is that’s he’s giving up and coming back to Rocky Point. “You’re giving up on acting? I thought that was your dream job?”

“It’s not all it’s cracked up to be, it turns out.”

“Alright, well, I’m excited to see you. Just sorry it’s not under better circumstances.”

“All good,” Gray says. “But I do have a... request.”

  Typical Gray. “What’s that?”

“Can I stay with you? There’s no way I can move in with mom, I’ll look like a total loser.”

“I don’t know, man. Lizzie just moved in a few weeks ago, she’s putting her Gran’s house back up for sale. We’re kind of looking forward to... alone time, you know?”

“Yuck, I don’t want to be stuck in your weird love nest anyway,” Gray says, faking a gagging sound. “Fine, I’ll move into mom’s guest bedroom. But can you keep an eye out for any apartments for rent around town? Living with mom for too long will totally cramp my style in the lady department.”

I roll my eyes, even though he can’t see me. “I thought you would have learned your lesson by now, Gray. You still planning to break every heart you see when you get back to town?”

“Ah, you know what they say,” Gray says. “Once a heartbreaker, always a heartbreaker.”
