The Forgotten (The Lost Children Series Book 1) Page 21

by Jennifer Sivec

Flash forward many years later and the concept of The Lost Children series was like an itch that I needed desperately to scratch. A story about an entire generation of children abandoned and forgotten by the ones who are supposed to love them the most, clung to the edges of my brain for over two years. The Lost Children was the first idea for a book that consumed me, but I put it on the shelf for another series that I couldn’t get out of my head or heart, the Eva Series. I always knew that I would come back to this story and I did. As I wrap up the Eva Series with the last book, Saving Eva, I also find myself in the midst of The Lost Children; the Forgotten, and I couldn’t be happier.

I am completely in love with the journey I am on and I’m thankful for the ability to channel my love for stories into my writing.

My children were my muses for The Forgotten. There is much of my oldest son in Jakob and much of my youngest son in Kell. Their character and strength is in the main characters, as well as their innocence and intelligence. I love that I get the opportunity to view them through the characters they’ve inspired and the story that has become theirs. When they were younger and the story was in its earliest inception, I would read it to them before they fell asleep and they could tell that I had drawn the characters to resemble them. They liked “their story” and I loved sharing it with them.

I’m truly fortunate to have so many amazing people in my life that help me, guide me, and support me throughout this road that I am on. I have a wonderful editor, J.C. Wing, who never hesitates to give me feedback on a story and challenges me to think about my writing in a deeper way. I also have a deeply talented cover designer, Brenda Gonet, who can take an idea and make it into a beautiful cover with very little explanation. Last but not least, Karen Alcaide, my proofreader has an incredible eye for detail and is such a lovely person. I am so grateful for all of these beautiful women and the role the play in my life.

I’m incredibly lucky to be married to my best friend. We’ve been through hell and back, but we’re still together, pushing each other through this life and learning as we go. We are strong, stubborn, and imperfect people, but somehow we’ve found each other and have created a family that neither of us has ever been willing to give up on. It’s a recipe that works for us even though that often means we have to learn the hard way, but we push through it and our bond continues to get stronger with every day. I’m thankful to have my husband in my life because he grounds me and loves me, even when it’s incredibly difficult to, which I appreciate each and every day and will until I take my very last breath.

Life is too short not to have gratitude in your heart.

I am grateful every day for the readers who read my books, the friends I ‘ve made since becoming public with my writing, and the common love we share for an incredible story. I’m still blown away that anyone other than my mom would want to read my books, and I’m also thankful that she reads them, too. I will never forget that out of the millions of books out there that you’ve chosen mine, and for that I am always humbled and always thankful, and that will never ever change.

  Ever.
