“I thought I could let you go, Sam. That I could leave town, but I realized I can’t.”

A seed of hope sprouted inside her as his look darkened. “Why not, John?”

He pulled her to him and cradled her hips with his hands, then pressed his hard length against her. “Because I’m in love with you.”

Her heart swelled with love and longing and desire. “You’re in love with me?”

He nodded, then pressed a kiss to her cheek and neck. “Yeah. Wholeheartedly.”

His sexy smile sent an erotic tingling through her. “I love you, too, John.”

“Then you’ll let me take care of you,” he murmured against her neck.

She threaded her fingers into his hair. “I can take care of myself.”

  “Sam?”

She laughed and teased his lips apart with her tongue. “How about we take care of each other?”

“I like that plan,” he said in a gruff voice, then slowly slid one strap of her gown off her shoulder. “I say we get started right now.”

A sexy chuckle escaped him as he scooped her in his arms, carried her up the steps to her bedroom and stripped her.

Any joking turned to white-hot passion as they joined their bodies and hearts and made love until dawn. And when the sun cracked the sky, they snuggled together and vowed never to close the door between them again.
