Nick’s arm, which was around her waist, tightened a little. He already knew where she was headed.
Paige’s nod sent her curls flying. “Yeah, no fair.”
Tanya piped in, “Rosie, after you push that puppy out, we’re going to throw you one hell of a party.”
The new bride, who’d just started getting a bit of a round tummy, nodded. “I’ll be so ready for a glass of wine by then.”
“Or a margarita,” Paige said.
Dex and Nick both groaned. Loudly.
Dex gave Rosemary a stern look. “Only on one condition.”
“Yeah,” Nick said, not taking his eyes off Melody.
The two of them finished in unison, “No lists.”
Rosemary and Melody looked at each other from a few steps away, shared an “aren’t we blessed” moment, then separated to get in their cars.
Once inside with Nick, Melody put her hand on his leg. “You won’t have to worry about me wanting to make a list at my bachelorette party. Once in a lifetime is enough for me.”
He opened his mouth to say something, probably “damn right.” Then her words sank in and a slow grin curled his gorgeous lips up, until he was flashing those two incredible dimples. “You trying to tell me something?”
“Maybe I am.”
But before she could say what, Nick threw the car back into Park, hopped out of the driver’s seat and came around to the other side. Melody watched, incredulous, as he tugged her door open and pulled her out to stand with him. Then he reached into the front pocket of his suit coat and lifted a small velvet box.
Lowering himself to one knee in the middle of a bustling Savannah square, he said, “Melody Tanner, will you be my wife?”
She saw her friends all pausing on their way to their cars, and began to smile. Then to laugh. And when she nodded, she also began to cry.
Because yeah, it was good. It was all good.
As far as Melody Tanner—soon to be Walker—was concerned, life just didn’t get any better.
