REGRET - The Price of Truth: Everhide Rockstar Romance Series Book 4

“You’re not staying longer?” Disappointment threaded through Hayden’s voice.
Lexi’s heart lurched. But when it came to Thomas, the shorter the stay, the better.
“Nope.” Thomas tugged up his trousers. “Gotta pick up the rig in Cleveland and drive to Bismarck.”
“Oh. Okay.” Hayden rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, we’ll catch up before the night is over. We better get back to everyone.”
As they headed toward their guests, Hayden’s mom leaped from her chair. “Thomas?”
Thomas held his arms wide, stepped toward her. “Well, who’s this dashing young lady we have here?”
Anita blushed as pink as the peonies. “Oh, stop it.”
“How you doing, darlin’?” He winked back at Hayden. “Enjoy your evening, boy. But if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to reacquaint myself with this fine lass over here.” He pranced toward Anita who giggled like a schoolgirl.
As the room echoed with the clink of silverware against plates, and guests mingled, drank, chatted and polished off their tiramisu dessert, Lexi drew Hayden to a halt behind their table.
“Hey?” she whispered to him, touched his cheek. “You all right?”
“Yeah.” His eyes lingered on Thomas who was making a loud ruckus as he reunited with family and friends. “Dad hasn’t changed a bit. Doubt if he ever will.” He drew her into his embrace, rested his head against hers. “I don’t know how you did it, but thank you. My parents are total fuck-ups. I love them and hate them so freaking much. But I’d never be able to deal with them if it wasn’t for you. Thank you, my angel.”
She glided her fingers down his chest, toyed with his silky black tie. “Our families are more dysfunctional than the Gallagher family in Shameless, but they’re ours. And you are mine. I love you. Forever. I promise.”
He brushed his lips across hers. “You are all I’ll ever need.”
Once the waiters cleared the dessert dishes, Gemma tapped her on the arm. “Gotta go.”
“Where?” Lexi’s gaze followed Gemma. She grabbed Kyle and Hunter and headed for the mic. “Oh no.”
They weren’t. Were they?
Kyle and Hunter grabbed guitars . . . their guitars . . . that had been stashed behind the DJ’s table.
Kyle and Hunter started strumming. Gemma spoke into the mic. “Would Mr. and Mrs. Moore please take the dance floor.”
“What’s this?” Lexi pointed. She’d specifically asked them not to sing at their wedding. She loved them, but they deserved to enjoy the celebrations and not have to perform.
“My turn for a surprise.” Hayden held out his hand and led her to the clearing in front of her friends. He spun her around. Her skirt swirled around her legs, and he took her in his arms. His body felt so warm and divine against hers.
Overwhelmed and overcome with the amazing day, Lexi melted against his chest. Swaying from side to side, she moved in time with his steps. Her heart beat against his.
Gemma’s beautiful voice filled the air.
Never knew the moon shined so bright,
Never knew the stars held the light,
Never knew I wanted to hold on tight,
’Til I found you.
’Til I found you.
Never knew what a kiss could mean,
Never knew how a touch should feel,
Never knew how lost I’d been,
’Til I found you.
’Til I found you.
Never knew what was at stake,
Never knew what we could make,
Never knew what my heart could take,
’Til I found you.
’Til I found you.
Never knew how much I loved you so,
Never knew I could never let you go,
Never knew my love could grow,
’Til I found you.
’Til I found you.
Never knew where I belonged,
Never knew you made me strong,
I’ve loved you, angel, for so long,
Now I’ve found my home.
Now I‘ve found my home.
As Hunter and Kyle played out the song on their guitars, Lexi glided her fingertips over the lapels of Hayden’s jacket. “Did you write that?”
“Just the last verse.” Color touched his cheeks as he clutched her hand against his chest. “They did the rest.”
“It was beautiful.” She waved and blew a kiss to her friends. Gemma flicked it aside with a huge smile plastered across her face. Linking her fingers behind Hayden’s neck, Lexi stepped slowly to the music and met his gaze. “You’re right though. We’ve found home. Together. I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy. Ever. Life before you didn’t exist.”
His arm around her waist tightened, drawing her body flush with his. His warmth charged up her spine, settled in her cheeks. A subtle grin played across his lips. “You’re stuck with me forever.” Shards of silver flickered in the depths of his steel-gray eyes. His lips hovered an inch from hers. “You’re my angel. Always. I love you.”
She cupped his cheek. “Love you too, hon.”
As their lips met, the DJ took control. Disco lights flashed. Party music boomed across the room and rattled the windows. Guests joined them on the dance floor.
Lexi’s head fell back, and she laughed. Hayden twirled her around, drew her in close and swung across the dance floor. Hearing him chuckle, seeing him smile and being in his arms filled her heart with pure love, joy and happiness.
After all their ups and downs, heartache and pain, love had found them. With friends and family swirling and dancing around them, she absorbed even more of Hayden’s love into every cell of her body, let the tingles tickle her toes. As she pressed her lips to Hayden’s, her eyelids fluttered closed. Images of him filled her mind. Every captured moment, collected memory, and click of her camera, had brought them to this point in time. The love embedded in her heart was now, and would always be, for no one else but Hayden.
