It seemed only minutes had passed when a soft breath touched her ear, then lips, then a word, barely spoken.

  “Hey.”

Mary strained to open her eyes. Awareness came in bits and pieces. A streak of sunlight about to expunge a corner of its shadows, muffled traffic noise, laughter from the hallway. A warm body spooning her back. Suddenly she remembered and her fatigue mixed with incredible contentment was explained.

Late though they’d gone to bed, they must have made love at least three times. She’d drop to sleep and then be awakened by Dan’s touching, kissing, probing, licking, taking her to places she’d never dreamed before. Once she’d brought him awake by stroking the giant between his legs. The same giant she felt crawl and surge up her thigh to her butt right now.

“Oh, yeah.” His cock stroked between her butt cheeks. She pushed. His pressing there tantalized her. He cradled her head on his right shoulder so he could reach over and massage her breast. The fingers of his left hand wandered among her pubic hair, tickling and stirring up desire at the same time.

“You do know how to bring a girl to life, Mr. Higgins.”

“I’m glad you think so, Ms. Franks. Believe me, I’m coming to life, too.” In proof, he wriggled his sex harder into her butt.

Seemingly of its own volition, her leg rose and wrapped back, around Dan’s. Immediately he caressed her clit. She moaned from the sensation and in anticipation of what she knew would be happening. As she expected, his cock slid from her butt to her pussy like a bee homing in on a flower. She blossomed when his thick crown pushed into her passage.

The smell of sex hung in the air from all they’d done the previous night. Mary breathed it in, letting the rhythm of Dan’s thrusts and the stroke of his hands on her breasts carry her away.

“I could make love to you forever and never get enough.” Dan’s husky voice sounded at her ear. Then he buried his face in her neck and covered her in wet kisses.

She loved this, loved the way Dan kissed, the way he filled her body and listened to her desires. She just loved Dan, period. The thought should have shaken her to her core or at least surprised her, but somehow, it was no more than confirmation of a truth she’d held secret all these years. Instead of coming as a shock, she felt…right.

The certainty of her feelings gave their lovemaking new meaning. Without warning, she flew apart, splintering into a million pieces, trusting Dan to be there to help put herself together again. His groan against her skin told her he’d fallen apart like her, with her. She wished time would stop.

Of course, it didn’t. Moments later, breathing heavily, Dan fell back onto the bed. He tugged her around to snuggle against him. “Do you have any idea how fantastic you are?”

  “No, do tell.”

Dan laughed. “Fishing for compliments again.” He lightly slapped her butt, then caressed it with slow, lazy strokes. “My statement was rhetorical.”

“Well, darn.” Mary craned her neck to see the clock. “Gosh, it’s almost eleven. I guess we should get up.”

“Mmm-hmm, as soon as I find the energy.”

“You’ll feel better after a shower.

He cracked open one eye. “With you?”

Smiling, she rose to her knees, straddled him, and then climbed out of bed, resisting his hands on her hips trying to hold her in place. “You can shower with me only if you hurry.”

“For that I can find the energy. I hope they have lots of hot water, because I’ll hurry to get there, but I don’t plan a short time in the shower.”

Laughing, she sauntered into the bathroom and turned on the water. The liquid burst from the spigot, steaming almost immediately. Rather like she felt when anywhere near Dan. For a few seconds, she enjoyed the heat in the cool, tiled bathroom, but the intensity couldn’t continue. She moderated the temperature, as she knew she’d have to adjust to living without Dan in a few days.

Last night she’d determined to be a bold bird of paradise, but Mary couldn’t kid herself. Deep inside she was a violet—shy and demure, but, as she was discovering, not as delicate as everyone thought.

Dan’s mother said he liked the flashy and spirited. Mary would take these few days to be that and more, before going home to face reality. A violet could withstand a lot, but not the searing heat and steam of Dan’s world.

  Chapter 7

Dan looked across the lunch table. He’d never had a night like they’d shared last night. For one thing, lacking a steady girlfriend, he never spent the night with anyone. Waking up next to Mary was like opening his eyes on a sunny day. Her passion astounded him. The sweetness that shone through when she slept humbled him. If he didn’t know better, he’d think he was in love.

“Mary, will you attend the prom with me?”

“What?” She giggled and slapped his arm. “Didn’t we already do that once?”

He thought back. He’d been seriously boffing two girls, both of whom expected an invitation to the senior prom. Going with either one would have caused him trouble, so he leapt at his mother’s suggestion that he take Mary. No one in his crowd expected her to be anything more than a pity date, not that he treated her in any way other than as a gentleman. But still, his heart hadn’t been in the right place.

“Not like we should have. Tonight’s the company dinner dance. It’s as close to a prom as we’re likely to get. I want to share it with you, have something to eat, dance a little, and later, maybe…” He saw a flash of emerald fire in her eyes and knew she wanted what he did. Shit. Too bad they couldn’t skip the damn dance, but he couldn’t. Besides, he owed her one.

  “Okay.”

“Great. We’ll have to get you another dress.”

“Dan, really. It’s too much. I’ll buy something this time.”

“Do I need to remind you that you’re out of work?”

She seemed to consider this. “Okay.” But she didn’t look happy. “I’ll let you buy me another dress, and I’ll go to the dance. But this is the end of buying me things, okay?”

“Okay, no more gifts. And it’s the prom.”

“You’re silly,” she said laughing. But her eyes sparkled with joy and he knew he’d made the right move.

  * * * *

The lead singer announced, “The next song will be the last for the night, so take your sweetheart in your arms and make the most of this magic moment.”

Dan took Mary’s hand and led her to the dance floor as the band struck up a slow beat. She melted in his arms as she had many times during the evening. The very short, full skirt of her new gown tapped the backs of her thighs. She still hadn’t been ready for anything as daring as the first black dress, but this one was a giant, intrepid step forward from what she would have purchased. Betty had persuaded her, and the look in Dan’s eyes all night had her sending Betty telepathic thank yous.

Spaghetti straps crossed her shoulders, formed an X, and then caught the material again just above her bra-less breasts. The design left her back almost bare. In the front, the material draped to just above her bellybutton. The accompanying skirt flowed sweet and free, and nowhere near her knees. No violet would be caught dead in this dress, and that was precisely why Mary had decided on it.

“Do you know every man here tonight would gladly kill to be the one to take you home? And if you weren’t with me, I’d be just like Pete, first in line to commit the murder of whoever you were with.”

Mary sighed. “You’re so good for my ego.”

“You’ve been good for mine all this week. Thanks for coming with me to these dances.”

“Are you kidding, it’s been my joy. Do you know how often I have the chance to wear designer clothes and attend fancy parties?” At his silence she answered, “Never.”

  “Stick with me, kid.”

Was there a touch of wistfulness in his voice, or had she imagined it because she wanted to hear those words?

He pulled her a little closer. They barely moved, only took mincing steps to the left and right. His body tou
ched hers in all the right places, and a couple of wrong ones, considering they were at a company event. Dan didn’t seem to care.

“I could dance all night with you.” She placed her head back on his shoulder. His hand slid down her bare back.

“Dancing’s okay, but I’m looking forward to our being alone. If you know what I mean.”

She laughed. “You are insatiable.” She rose onto tiptoes and whispered in his ear, “And I’m glad.” Her tongue swiped a path around the rim.

“That’s it. We’re leaving right now,” he joked.

And then the song ended. Everyone applauded.

“Hey, Dan!” A call came from off to their left.

Dan groaned and maneuvered Mary farther to the right. “My brother. The last thing I want is to be drawn into a business discussion, or worse, an early breakfast where Mom will keep you engaged for hours in pointless conversations.”

Mary chuckled. “I like your mother.”

“She likes you, too, but not as much as I do. Come on.” Grabbing her lightweight wrap from their table, he hustled her out to the taxi queue.

He wasn’t as forward as when they’d left the strip club. They did nothing but hold hands while waiting their turn for a cab, or on the ride. Fortunately, the trip to Marco Towers took little time.

“You know what I want?” Dan asked in the elevator.

“I think I have an idea.”

“You’re a smart woman.” He draped an arm over her shoulders.

  “Know what I want?”

He looked down, deadpan. “Dare I hope?”

  “You may dare.”

He faced the elevator ceiling. “Thank you, God.”

They exited and walked down the hallway. “I have a fantasy of you,” Dan said, “wearing that new nightgown.”

Mary handed him the keycard. “I do have nightgowns, you know. The one you bought is beautiful but unnecessary.”

“I don’t want you wearing lingerie you brought for your honeymoon. This is our time.” He opened the door.

Mary swept to the table and picked up the box containing the nightgown Dan had bought with the red dress. She’d sent back the fancy black outfit and day dress, but couldn’t bring herself to return the feminine, modest cotton night dress. She’d never had anything so beautiful, and best of all, it looked like something she would have bought for herself. That Dan chose it over something slinky spoke volumes to her.

She rushed into the bedroom. “Give me just a minute.”

“I’d say ‘no rush,’ but I wouldn’t mean it.”

She laughed. “I’ll try to make it worth your while,” she said from behind the closed door. Putting the box on the bed she pulled the dress straps off her shoulders.

“Do you want a drink?” Dan called from the living room.

“No, thanks.” Without the straps, there was nothing to hold the scanty bodice in place. What little skirt there was fell to floor with one flick of the zipper. In Dan’s arms, among the admiring looks of his friends and even Pete’s leer, she’d felt sexy and desirable tonight.

“Now from one extreme to the other,” she murmured. Stripped naked, she lifted the nightgown from the box and slipped it over her head. The thinnest of cotton gowns fell to the floor. Embroidered pink rosebuds lined the scoop collar and softly capped sleeves. A satin ribbon tied under her breasts, Empire style. With her hair still pulled up and in curls—and with the same bracelet Dan had given her last night—she looked like a Disney princess. Quickly folding her evening clothes and hiding the box under the bed, she turned to the closed door.

The red button flashing on the phone caught her attention. The light meant a message. Anyone who wanted Dan would have used his cell phone, so at last Ralph or her mother had found her. They were the last people she wanted to talk to. Ignoring the blinking light, she rushed to fling open the door.

Dan stood on the other side, filling the space and bracing the frame with his hands. “I could hardly wait to see you.”

She clasped her hands behind her back. “I love it, Dan. Thank you so much. These past couple of days have been like a fairy tale, and this just caps it all off.”

“My princess,” he murmured, stepping forward.

“My prince.” She stepped back, leading him into the bedroom.

“That gown looks wonderful on you. Innocent, almost virginal.”

Virginal. The word set fire to her imagination. The gown gave the appearance of purity itself, yet she felt sexy and knowing.

“I am an innocent, sir. I’ve never been touched.” He’d said he had a fantasy of her in the nightgown. She hoped her role playing would please him. His eyes burned with desire. Her heart began to patter.

“If you are pure, why do you come to me dressed like this?” He reached out and plucked a strand of hair from her upsweep. It fell around her face and to the top of her shoulders. “Don’t you know you turn my rod to steel and what I’ll do with it?”

“My-my family owes a debt. I am here to pay.”

He stepped closer and removed a hair comb. More locks fell along her cheek. “You would give what I demand? Anything?” His gaze dropped to her breasts.

Mary took in a deep breath and pulled back her shoulders. The bodice tightened over her breasts. She knew her dark nipples could be seen through the fine fabric. Dan’s nostrils flared with his own intake of air.

“I will do whatever you ask.”

He thought for a moment. “Remove my jacket.”

Mary stretched her arms to his shoulders. He raised his hands to sketch circles around her nipples. Impossibly, they hardened more than they had rubbing against the nightgown.

  “Beautiful,” he murmured.

“Thank you, sir,” she murmured in as virginal a voice as she could muster, feeling like a wanton. When he released her, she slid his black jacket off his shoulders and walked to hang it in the closet. As she started back, he halted her.

“Stand just there and spread your legs apart.”

She did so, watching him from beneath lowered lashes.

“The light from the bathroom makes a silhouette of you. I see the length of your legs and the point where your thighs meet. The very place my dick will pierce you. Where I’ll take you over and over. Are you sure you’re prepared?”

Her breath caught in her throat. “More than prepared. Anxious.” Approval shone in his slight smile. “Shall I turn out the lights?”

“Yes, and then come to the balcony.”

With the room lights extinguished, the brightness of Las Vegas Boulevard

intensified. Mary leaned against the railing. Dan stood behind, hands on her hips. The Eiffel Tower and Parisian balloon seemed close enough to touch, and the Bellagio dancing waters added motion to the lights in the distance. People drove by blowing horns as the traffic slowed, and pedestrian conversations and laughter could be heard. Yet several stories above it all, she and Dan played out a game in a world of their own.

His hands crept up to her breasts. Moisture pooled between her legs. She leaned into him, arching her back in order to fill his palms with all she had.

“Your breasts are soft and smooth. Pliant and full. They please me very much.”

  “I am glad, sir.”

He slid his hands down. “And your waist is narrow. Your hips are perfect.”

His touch skimmed the cotton, sending a shiver along her bare skin beneath. Her breath came hard.

“I am glad I please you.”

“Oh, I don’t know if you please me, not quite yet. I haven’t completed my examination. Do you want to please me?”

“Oh, yes. Tell me what to do.”

“Turn around.” She did so. He dropped his head to her breasts and sucked her nipple through the cotton.

Mary didn’t think anything could feel as good as when Dan suckled her bare breasts, but this surpassed the sensation. She couldn’t suppress a moan. Cradling his head, she held him to her, encouraging his mouth on first one nipple and then the other.

He worked the gown up in order to find her pussy with his fingers. Soon her arousal became apparent. She moved her hips, trying to slide onto his fingers—for he certainly worked her with more than one—but he kept her on the edge. Need spiraled through her. Like a mare in need of her stallion, she rubbed against him, striving to relieve the force driving her to move, to touch, to feel.

When he stopped, he rubbed the tips of his fingers across her lips. She sucked on them as though they were bread and water, closing her eyes on the scent and taste.

“Do you like the flavor of your cream?”

She could only nod since he hadn’t removed his fingers. Then abruptly, he did.

“Turn around,” he commanded harshly. “Bend over.”

Now, she thought, now he’ll fuck me and let me breathe again. Though there was no wind, her nipples pebbled and peaked where the wet fabric touched them. Please, please.

Dan lifted the nightgown to her hips. Using his feet, he nudged her feet apart. Then—God in heaven!—he kissed her ass. More than kissed, he nuzzled it, nipped it, licked. He pulled her cheeks apart and tongued her small, tight hole. All the while, his talented fingers plunged her pussy and teased her clit.

  “Yes, yes, Dan.”

  “Not yet, princess.”

No! He stepped away. She was ready to cry for relief by the time he returned.

“You’ll like this, I think.” He smoothed a cool cream at her anus, pushing with his thumb a little more with each pass.

Nervous, Mary held onto the railing so hard her knuckles whitened. Surely he wasn’t thinking about anal sex? She’d read about it but had never dreamed of doing it. But …yes, he was gently inserting something.

  “Dan, I don’t think I—”

“Hush, girl!” The command was sharp and she shut up. “You said you would do whatever I wished.”

He pushed the thing in a little farther. Then, “Just relax, Mary,” he said softly. “Don’t fight it. I promise it’ll be good for us both. Trust me.”

With a hesitant breath, she tried to relax, and Dan slid the thing in all the way. It didn’t hurt, it just felt uncomfortable. He smoothed one hand up under the gown and around to her breasts. With the other hand he guided his cock to her pussy and then circled his muscular arm around her waist to hold her close. With a grunt, he thrust past her opening and into her wetness.
