Deep Space Dragnet (Rich Weed Book 2) Page 20

by Berg,Alex P.

Something gnawed at me. My decision not to share my suspicions about the inside man with Vijay. If I’d mentioned anything, InterSTELLA would’ve found out how Paige and I’d tampered with the travel logs, and they might’ve changed them back to accurately reflect the ship and her cargo. If they’d done so…would the pirate attack I experienced have happened at all?

I sat there in silence—the latter being a relative term given the cacophony erupting from the jumbled masses around me.

Eventually, Carl clapped me on the shoulder and gestured to the far side of the concourse. “There’s a bar over there. We’ve still got time to grab a drink, if you’d like.”

“Think that’s a good idea given the upcoming climber ride?”

Carl shrugged. “You tell me. You seemed to acclimate pretty well to all the various gravity situations we encountered on the Samus.”

“You’re right,” I said. “And if ever there was a time to tempt fate, I figure now is it.”

Carl stood. I followed suit, chuckling at my own turn of phrase. Tempt fate? As if someone would drop out of the future to tell me whether or not having a drink was a good idea.

Then again, stranger things had happened. Or if Paige was right, would happen.
