Captive to a Pirate Page 20

Brigid was the first to break their silence. “With the damage to Port Royal, I suppose you don’t know what you’ll be doing after Boston. This will have to complicate shipping routes for a while, wouldn’t you think?”

“It might.” He curled a lock of red hair around one of his fingers, smiling fondly. “We’ll work it out, though. Everyone will need shipping to continue somehow. I just worry about not being close enough to you and Donny.”

“But you won’t be staying on your ship between routes.” At the confused look he gave her, she continued. “You have a home now, you know.”

“It’s your house and property, Brigid,” he reminded her carefully. “I’ll gladly stay with you, but I don’t want you thinking I’m taking ownership of anything.”

“I’m the one who had the house built,” she agreed, “but it’s our home.”

Home. It was a foreign thought, something he hadn’t entertained since he was a boy. He pulled her closer to him to kiss her again. Gently, this time; his lips brushed over hers with infinite care, as though the slightest misstep would shatter this delicate thing they had made.

His lips curled into a wry smile against hers and he echoed into the kiss, “Our home.”

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

From her earliest memories, Lilith was fascinated by storytelling. The ability to take words and create entire universes seemed like magic. From Little House on the Prairie to The X-Files novelizations, she read voraciously. In her early teens she began reading romance novels—starting with one of her favorite authors, Johanna Lindsey—and there was no going back.

Today, Lilith lives in the rural northwoods with cats, rats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, cows and miniature horses. Best of all, she lives there with the love of her life and gets to write stories to transport others to the universes she has created.
