Midnight Tan - Vampire Series Book 1 Page 5

by Altas Opal

“Ahem . . aren’t’ you about to kill me?”

“No. . . I was though. I will not be responsible for your death today.”

“Do you have someone else out there who’s going to do it tonight?”

  “No.”

  “That’s not reassuring”

“It’s all I can promise you.”

Shay closed her eyes and tried to calm her pulse. It seemed rather ironic considering that a vampire was in the same room as her. It was hard not to think of him. If she was alone, she would be fantasizing about showering with him. She could just imagine soapy bubbles sticking to his chest and droplets of water dripping down his . .

“Think of something else,” he growled.

Oh my god, Shay thought. Could he read thoughts?

“No. I can’t read your thoughts, but I can tell you’re aroused.”

Talk about a bucket of cold water getting thrown on you.

She opened her eyes to ask, “Can I play with my knives?” before her voice trailed off. He looked practically feral.

Without thinking, she grabbed three knives and started to twirled them through her fingers and started to relax.

Ethan watched the silver flicker through her hands. He also started to relax as her scent dissipated.

He should kill her now. If anyone knew how she affected him, they would use her against him. Unfortunately, he had promised her that he would not kill her today, and he had 15 hours to keep his word.

  “Are you better now?”

“Yes. I’m not sure what to do with you. You’re not what I expected at all. I’m assuming you had help creating the tanning solution?”

“Yes. Look, I’m sorry I dragged you into this. I was warned not to get involved with your kind and it was only pure desperation that made me do it. I used your name when Sunrose asked for my master. I had no idea that this would happen. I only wanted to be able to support my family.”

A glint of the broken glass caught her eye. Without thinking, she picked up a shard only to cut herself. She gasped as she felt her back hit the door and her body was caught between Ethan and the door. He was gripping her hand, intent on the droplets of blood that ran down the her finger. Her pulse increased, and she prayed he would remember that he wouldn’t kill her. She watched in fascination as his mouth moved towards and up her arm to her hand as his lips kissed a path up to the cut. She felt his warm tongue brush against her palm and all thought left her.

She would not have known her name if asked. Ethan’s face transformed into something harsher and more alien as he lapped at the wound on her finger. At this point, she didn’t care if he killed her since her entire body was filling with a slow ecstasy that she had never felt before. She felt his erection against her stomach and her body began to burn before quickly exploding into a climax. The next instant, he pulled away from her. Her legs were so wobbly that she slumped against the wall. He walked to window while keeping his back to her.

“You should not have done that.”

“It was an accident.” Her voice sounded foreign and breathless.

He turned and she saw an ache and a tiredness in his eyes.

“I claim you as my Carus. You are under my protection until I relinquish it or until your death.”
