  His Primary Desire

  Chapter 1

The latest poll taken of Mr. Channing’s fiancé was definitely not what I had been hoping for after her promise to tone things down a bit. Apparently, the public truly hated her, and this seriously posed a problem for the squeaky clean “Family Values” campaign of the Republican Presidential Nominee, Will Channing. The public had described her as fake and abrasive with an egocentric hyper-focus on her own fame. The campaign was quickly spiraling into a nosedive because of the beautiful horrid woman my boss had promised to marry, and my job was going down with it. How was I supposed to tell the hopeful future leader of the Free World that his fiancé was a grade-A bitch and nobody liked her?

I rubbed my temples with my fingers trying to relieve the tension with a sigh and gathered the motivation to explain the situation to Dave, the campaign manager. Picking up the papers documenting the poll data I would need for “evidence” to support what had been found, I stood up and walked briskly down the hall.

Rounding the corner, my sudden pluck of determination quickly fell seeing the gorgeous Will Channing leaning against the doorframe of Dave’s office. I stopped short, and held my breath trying to decide what to do. He looked up and smiled that seductive smile that had helped him secure the Republican Nomination. Crap. Turning around and waiting for a better time when he wasn’t hovering nearby wasn’t an option now that he had seen me.

Remembering I needed to move my feet before I looked any more ridiculous just standing there mid-stride, I lurched forward in an awkward gait. He smirked a little seeing how graceless I had become, and if I could have died of embarrassment, I would have done so right there on the floor of Will Channing’s campaign headquarters.

Oh, sweet baby Jesus. Kill me now.

I felt my face flush red as he gave my curves a once over while waiting for me to approach. I noticed the subtle look of amusement on his face, and realized I had either charmed the man standing there watching me react so awkwardly to that damned smile of his, or he was just being rude. Awkward and being plus-sized really didn’t mesh well, and I wisely assumed the latter. I’d be fooling myself if it were anything else.

Stopping just outside the open door at the opposite side of the doorframe he was leaning against, I knocked to alert Dave that I had something important to discuss.

“Amy,” Dave replied, “What can I do for you?”

I cleared my throat before speaking, hoping my voice wouldn’t betray my fluttering heart standing so close to Mr. Channing, “The results from the recent poll about Mr. Channing’s fiancé have just been tallied,” I hesitated a moment before continuing, knowing that what I had to say was going to have to be said in front of Will Channing. It was just my luck that I had to deliver the disappointing news with him standing right there.

“Ok, what did we find out?” Dave asked.

“Well…” I glanced at Mr. Channing noticing the bemused look on his face. What exactly was so amusing about this situation? Shaking my head in resigned confusion, I continued, “I suppose now is as good a time as any for you to hear this, Mr. Channing,” I blew a piece of hair out of my face and dove right in, “The public still isn’t on board with Bianca. In fact, it’s even worse than before.” I glanced at him quickly before going on, “Your popularity has fallen dramatically after Bianca’s latest gaffe. Many have reported they would vote for the opposing side just so she wouldn’t have the satisfaction of being the First Lady, whether or not they were conservative and were on board with you.”

Dave stood up and I stepped into his office to hand him the results. He looked through page after page of negative polls before replying, “Wait, what was this question here? The one about Will, without the influence of Bianca?”

“Right, that was the only positive in all of this,” I replied. “From the conservative far right to the moderate left, much of the public is in favor of Mr. Channing and his platform. Unfortunately, that also means the only thing standing between Mr. Channing and the White House is… Bianca.”

I didn’t dare look at Mr. Channing. I couldn’t believe I had just announced what I did so matter of fact. As if Mr. Channing’s personal life was any business of mine. Dave stood up and gave a copy of the analysis to Mr. Channing to look over himself. As he looked over the result of the poll he brushed his fingers through his hair with an exasperated sigh. It was a good full minute before he replied and I was nervous of his response. I was hoping this wasn't a case of killing the messenger.

He finally replied after what seemed like an eternity to me, “I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but I suppose we have to deal with it now.” He shook his head, “I think I have an idea.” He looked straight at me and then perused me from head to toe, “Yes, I think I do have an idea. Come with me, Amy.” I had no choice but to obey his command and followed quickly behind him down the hall. If he had an idea, I could only hope it was a good one. But what on earth did it have to do with me? His unnerving perusal of my body in Dave’s office worried me just a little bit, but I couldn’t help the heat that flowed up through my core when I realized the look on his face was appreciative of what he saw. I smiled secretly behind him. I hoped to God this new-fangled idea of his would be fan-freaking-tastic.

Although, I also hoped it wasn't something too drastic despite my secret longing for him. The campaign was in serious need of damage control after Bianca’s horrible public displays of self-centered immaturity. It all needed to be handled very delicately no matter what he had up his sleeve to save face.

I followed him into his office and he shut the door behind me. Mr. Channing stood there looking at me for a good full minute. He had that annoying smirk on his face again. What exactly was so amusing to him about me? I wondered if I should be offended. His examination of me was intense and I fiddled with my ear lobe; a nervous habit I’d had since being mercilessly teased for my weight as a child. His highly inappropriate seductive stare was making the fiddling ten times worse than it should have been.

“Is there something you wanted to talk to me about?” I asked hoping to alleviate some of my nervousness. The tension between us was undeniably electrifying. The air buzzed around me with every passing moment. He was taking forever to answer the question, and my nerves frazzled with the delay.

He finally spoke after what seemed like an eternity under his scrutiny, “Yes, actually there is something that I want you to do for me.” He took a step closer to me, reached up and gently brushed the lock of hair covering my eye and tucked it behind the ear I had been nervously rubbing between my fingers. My hand dropped to my side with his touch, and I knew my face would be entirely flus
hed in crimson in about .02 seconds. I hated that I couldn’t keep my obvious feelings to myself. Every awkward thing about me gave it away. His fingers grazed my ear, stopping at the lobe and gently massaged where I had left off. Unable to meet his gaze, I looked away and groaned quietly. The burn of his touch inflamed the mounting desire within me. In a second it would be too much to contain and I willed myself to keep it together. It had been entirely too long since experiencing the touch of a man. What was this man, and a gorgeous man at that, doing to me?

“I trust you signed a confidentiality agreement when you were hired?” He asked, still massaging my lobe. Why on earth would he need to know that? And right now, in this moment of all moments, he had to know this now? The situation was becoming more and more confusing to me. Besides which, he needed to stop it with the massaging of my ear lobe that was making me lose my ever-loving mind. I couldn’t think. Heck, I couldn’t even breathe.

“Of course.” I squeaked out. Good grief, I sounded like a mutant chipmunk.

I caught him trying to stifle a laugh, “Excellent.” Oh, he knew what he was doing, alright. The over-confident Butthead seemed to be quite pleased with his skills. We both knew it, but it didn’t deter him one tiny bit.

Will leaned in closer and wrapped his other arm around my waist, just the tiniest bit above my full hips and backside. He tugged my body into his with a swift jerk and nestled his muscular thigh between my legs. Wet warmth frosted my core with the steady pressure of his thigh. My resolve was absolutely no match against that damned hot thigh dominating the space where my rational thought should be. Bloody hell. I was so in trouble.

I had fantasized about him too much over the last two years not to respond. I forgot all about the poll, the reason why I was standing in his office, and let myself fall into the moment. My hands gripped his lean waist as I nuzzled his exposed neck. His breath caught with the unexpected touch of my lips, and boldly, I rocked my curvaceous hips against his invading thigh.

He grunted and drew my head back with an entangled fist full of my hair. I had gone too far. I kept my eyes on the floor, “Look at me.” Will commanded. My hesitation was mere moments, but apparently too long for his liking.

He growled low and released my hair, “I need you to do something for me, Amy.”

  I nodded, unable to speak.

“I need you to be my girlfriend. Well, pretend to be my girlfriend to be precise.”

I looked at him like he had lost his gorgeous mind, and snorted at the idea. He cocked his head and raised an eyebrow, “I’m serious.”

“You stir my senses, and I can see now the chemistry between us will look believable to the public.” He moved back a step and gazed at my full-figure for a second more.

I was uncomfortable under so much scrutiny in so little a time. No man had ever looked at me the way Will was looking at me now.

I fumbled in my uneasiness, “How on Earth did you know there would be chemistry when you brought me in here?”

“Let’s just say I had a hunch.” He winked. The self-assured charm was back.

“Ok, but what makes you think the public will believe that you’d really choose me, despite the apparent chemistry? You can have your pick of any beautiful woman in this city.”

“True, and I just picked this beautiful woman standing right in front of me.” He smiled. Genuinely this time, and my insides flip-flopped with the sweet gesture. This whole thing was surreal… him, me, what had just happened inside this office. I couldn’t believe it.

He was everything that my sense of self wanted. I knew it the first time I laid eyes on him at a Town Meeting in my home state of Iowa. His platform had inspired me, and his seductive charm had enthralled me. Taking this job was the highlight of my career and I couldn't leave it. I had no choice but to accept his offer.

“So, what do you say?” He asked. An expectant tone was evident in his voice.

  I timidly nodded my consent.

He stepped forward, now just a few inches away. My breath caught as he cradled my face in one hand, “Good.” He replied, and kissed my lush full lips softly. My lips were my best asset, and I was more than happy to confidently return his kiss.

He grazed my plump lips with his tongue before making his way lower down my soft neck. His flutter of kisses made my flesh burn with anticipation as he dipped even lower to taste the ample swell of my breasts subtly peeking through the top unbuttoned slit of my blouse. I couldn’t help but want this man who had invaded my senses. He was offering a solution to not only the campaign, but also a solution to satiate the insane crush I had on him, too. I could only hope my heart would wisely stay out of it.

“I was hoping you’d agree. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed what you can offer.” He said before hiking my skirt up my full thighs. His admission surprised me, but I couldn’t help but feel a little like a toy he was playing with for his amusement at the statement. He brought my leg up and stroked my thigh as he kissed the plump swell of my breast. His touch was intoxicating and I let myself go despite my fears. I wanted nothing more than to please him.

Abruptly he stopped his assault on my lush willing body and raised his head to look me in the eye, “You're sure, Amy?” He asked. I could see a glimmer of hope and passion on his handsome face. I didn't know if that glimmer was because he actually wanted me, or if that passion and hope was just a side effect of his race to the White House. The combination of emotions that shone in his eyes was confusing to me. But we had a job to do, and I wanted to do my part. I could totally keep my heart out of it. Or at least, I hoped I could.

“Yes, I'm sure this is what needs to be done.” I said with as much stoic responsibility in my voice as I could muster. This was my job. I had to keep my wits about me.

“Excellent. I’ll have my private secretary draw up the contract.”

A brisk knock sounded at the door and he abruptly released me. I smoothed out my skirt and righted myself to respectability before nodding to Will that I was ready.

“Just one more thing… This will be our secret until tonight. The only other person that will ever know about this is Dave for campaign purposes. The arrangement will be on a trial basis. I’d like you to come with me to the fundraiser tonight as sort of… like… an audition. I want see how the public will respond to you first before setting it in stone.”

He seemed nervous with the request as he fumbled to right his tie. He knew it was a little insulting to be asked to be paraded before the public to be judged, and all for his benefit. His position was understandable, even if it was a bit degrading. I was more than aware that I wasn’t what the public or the media would expect as his choice of a companion.

“I understand. I’ll be sure to keep quiet. I wouldn’t want you to be embarrassed on my account.” I answered quietly.

He looked pained, like he didn’t know what to say, or how to handle the obvious hurt in my voice.

“Amy, you’re a rare gem. Thank you.”

  He opened the door.

“Why was your door locked?” Bianca asked as she waltzed into Will’s office.

“I'm allowed to have my door locked, Bianca.” Will replied with a touch of annoyance.

“What’s she doing in here?” Bianca had finally noticed me standing there.

  “We were having a meeting.”

“Whatever.” She said dismissively obviously not threatened by my presence in his office, or the fact that we had been previously isolated in there by a locked door.

I took that as my cue to leave, and hurried out of Will’s office.

I was still ear shot away when I heard him say, “Bianca, we need to talk,” before closing the door to his office.

  Chapter 2

I sat at my desk completely stunned with what had just taken place in the Will’s office. I couldn't believe it had even happened. My phone buzzed and saw the light glow next to Dave’s extension. He must have talked to Will already.

“Hi, Dave…What’s up?” I said as norma
lly as I could.

“Hey, Amy I need you to come into my office. We need to talk. I’m sure you know what about.”

“Okay. I’ll be right there.” I stood up, smoothed out my skirt and made my way down the hall into David's office. This was going to be a very interesting conversation, no doubt.

When Dave saw me approach, he waved me inside, “We should probably shut the door for this conversation, Amy.” Dave directed.

I shut the door quickly behind me and turned around to face my boss.

“What exactly happened in there? Will just called me and told me that you’re going to be his new girlfriend?” He looked completely bewildered.

“Well, yeah I guess that's what just happened. Apparently, I'm supposed to be going with him to the fundraiser tonight as a trial basis.”

“Trial basis? I don’t get it.”

“It’s all just apart of his plan for the campaign, and the solution to the Bianca problem. It’s not real.”

“Are you going to do it?” Dave asked.

  “Yes. I really don't have a choice.”

Dave shrugged his shoulders, “Ok, well then I guess I don't need to tell you that the media or anyone outside of this office can ever find out about this. If they do this entire campaign is toast.” David admonished. “I hope you know what you’re getting into.”

I nodded, “I do know, and Will also made it completely clear himself that it was all pretty iffy. Who knows? I may just end up botching it tonight anyway, and then this insane idea will never see the light of day. But I do hope I can pull it off. I can definitely see the benefits to the campaign if I can.”

“I just hope this works. We need a miracle after the damage Bianca has done to Will’s popularity.” Dave said.

“Speaking of Bianca,” I began, “She walked in right after my meeting with Will, so I'm supposing he's already told her he’s breaking up with her.”

Dave did an ‘eek’ face, “I hope there aren’t any major repercussions to this.” Then continued, “Well, Amy I know you do your job well, and if this is what you think is best then I’ll trust you. I only ask that you be aware that this whole thing is just a business arrangement. I don't want you getting your heart involved. It’ll only be broken in the end. No good can come from that.”
