Feeling his boner against me send chills down my spine. My stomach grumbled as I rolled on top of him, my legs straddling his hips. Connor chuckled.
“Hungry?”
“No.” I lied as my stomach grumbled again. I let out a groan as he pulled away from me.
“Come on, we need to get food in you before we do anything else.”
“I’m fine!” I protested as he rolled me off him and slid out of bed.
“Lies, lies, lies.” He held his hands out to me, I took them and he pulled me to my feet. He pulled me into his arms, his eyes scanning my face.
My heart felt light as I looked at him. His hands traced over the curves of my body. My fingers tangled into his hair as neither of us said anything. Where is this going? I wasn’t against a one night stand but… the way he touched me, it made me want more. It made me want him more than anything. My lips touched his neck; placing feathery kisses over his skin. He let out a deep sigh.
“I want to see you again.” He confessed as if he’d been reading my mind. So, this hadn’t just been a one night stand.
“You do?”
“Yes but…” Of course there was a ‘but’ in there. There always was. “I’m… a werewolf. You kill werewolves. Is that going to be an issue for you?”
“I kill bad werewolves, are you a bad werewolf?” a grin flickered across his face for a fraction of a second. He opened his mouth but I didn’t give him time to say anything. “I’ve never killed someone who didn’t kill someone themselves, and by someone I mean at least two people.” I had rules for working. Just last year I’d let a female vampire go when she killed her abuser. Actually, she was a pretty good connection to have. “I… your condition does not mean anything to me.” I paused. “I’m fine with you being a werewolf, as long as you are my werewolf.”
Connor didn’t say anything. Instead his lips touched mine. The kiss started off as sweet, even gentle, but it wasn’t long before it grew much more passionate.

Chapter 1- The Life of a Cashier
I cupped my cup of coffee and breathed in the sweet, bitter steam. This is what truly kept me grounded in the mornings. Especially when I had nothing but hell to look forward to as a cashier. I was comforted by the fact that I would be going on a vacation with my friends soon. I could already picture the sunshine gracefully shrouding my body as I lay on the shore of the river.
Unfortunately, I had to be brought back to the present. I have to deal with that fact that I’m going to get yelled at by angry customers because we don’t have an item in stock. Or I’ll get a ton of returns that have clearly been used. I wish that my day off would come sooner.
“Hey, what's up?” My co-worker Cindy asked. She was blonde and super tiny. She doesn’t even diet.
“Nothing, just drama from Lilly and Jake” I sighed. My two other co-workers had texted me all night whining about each other, and I was ready to scream at them.
“Oh my gosh, they were texting me too!” She exclaimed.
“They should just break up and then stay that way” I mumbled. The couple would break up every week. Cindy laughed, and I started getting everything ready for the store. I was dreading having to open and was annoyed to see that people were already waiting in their cars outside.
"Why can't people just stay home and not come over so early in the morning. It's so annoying" Cindy grumbled. I nodded, too tired to voice my own annoyance. At least it would be somewhat quiet. I would actually prefer morning customers, they know what they want and are usually in and out quickly.
My boss decided that we wouldn't have a morning huddle and instead greeted one of the more annoying customers who decided to stand by the sliding doors. They were eagerly waiting to be let in. We all put on our fake smiles and cheered good mornings even though we were all in horrible moods.
The day commenced and luckily I didn't have to cashier today. That was the one of the worst parts of my job because you had to deal with irritated people. They didn't seem to understand that I didn't have much control over anything that goes on in the store.
The only mishap I had was getting grouched at by a customer after I took too long to grab a box from the top shelf. Overall, if that's all that I had to deal with, then I was getting off easy. When it came time for me to leave, I quickly took off my name tag, so that I wouldn't get stopped on my way to time out. Cindy walked me to my car and proceeded to chat my ear off about the drama that everyone at work was experiencing. She was also whining about how she had gained a pound on her skinny little waist. I was a bit confused on how you could be worried about something that wasn't a big deal. I wasn't upset about my own weight, but I had more to worry about. There was a lot of shaming that I felt like Cindy just did not understand.
I drove home, feeling a distinguished lack of energy in my body and chanted to myself that I only had three more days to deal with all of this exhaustion.
Chapter 2 - Vacation Time
I was pretty happy. Today I was finally free and would be heading out to go and take a short camping trip. I would be relaxing and fishing in no time. I smiled in the mirror and decided to go light on my makeup (I would be in the woods anyway). The same line of thinking left me with the urge just to throw my hair up in a ponytail. However, I have always prided myself in being neat and clean.
I had packed the night before. So all that I would have to do is eat breakfast and start driving. All of the excitement and the idea of being in a forest made me decide that I would pass over fast food. I ate some eggs and a salad instead, feeling accomplished.
However, this is around the time that I received a phone call.
"Hey Sammi, sorry but we won't be able to go on the trip. My work called, and I have to go in. I'm sorry" My friend Ashley told me, she sounded sad, and I could hear her younger brother yelling sorry in the background. I sighed, I understood. I had been called into work plenty of times on my days off. I just decided to wish her well.
Now I had the decision to make on whether or not I should go camping still. I had been to the area plenty of times, so it wasn't like I was going on some mysterious adventure. But it would be a lot more fun to have a friend go with me. I decided to call and text a couple other friends to see if they could go (it's so short notice!). I wasn't able to find anyone though. What a bummer. I wasn't about to let my rare days of the rest go to waste.
Before I knew it, I was on a five-hour drive to go chill out in the woods.
I’m surprised I didn’t collapse to the ground. My butt was super numb after the long car ride, but I was finally to the campsite that made me want to kiss the ground in joy. No work for a whole week! Just me and this fresh, crisp air.
I set up my tent, and camp stuff right before sunset and eagerly cuddled up for a cool summer night. Looking forward to the dawn.
Chapter 3- The Gentle River
The morning didn’t disappoint me in the least. It was crisp and cool. Completely refreshing. I looked forward to doing some paddling in the river. What a relief to be out of the city. I was so sick of work and all of the drama between co-workers and friends. The only thing that would make this trip better is if I had some coffee to get a nice caffeine buzz going.
I reached up and unstrapped my kayak and was amazed that I was able to get it off of my car by myself without scratching everything up. Today was going to be a good day.
Out in the water, I was annoyed by my life vest and decided that I should leave it at shore. The water in this area is still anyway. I paddled back to the shallow area and tossed it to the
dirt. Then happily paddled to the middle of the river. This area’s body of water was really great because it was so vast. I was completely excited. I kind of wished that my friends were with me, but I got over it.
I started exploring around a bit and got excited when I saw a fish bob to the surface, I presume so that it could eat a bug or something like that. I wish that I could just reach of and scoop it up, that would be great. I was so distracted that I didn’t even notice that my kayak started to drift into a current. Annoyed, I started to try to paddle out of it, but my kayak hit a rock that was under water. I was caught off guard and tipped into the water.
My lungs burned as I accidentally inhaled water from the surprise. Instead of flipping my kayak back up, I slipped out of it and was dragged under the murky cold water. Oh shit!
I tried not to panic but it was hard not too. I ended up swinging my arms and hoping I would float back to the surface. It seemed like forever I was under the water, but in reality it was probably only a few seconds. My lungs ached and I coughed trying to get some oxygen. I almost went back under when I started flailing and realized I was getting dragged along the current. Oxygen was my main concern though.
I managed to cough out the last bit of water in time to take a giant gasp before being dragged under the water. The current was getting stronger. I had always thought I was a strong swimmer since my parents gave me lessons when I was younger. Unfortunately I was getting proved wrong!
I closed my eyes from the sting and ended floating back to the surface. Panic ran through my body as I realized I was getting dragged into the rapids. I tried to swim, but my movements were sluggish. I decided my best bet would be to save my energy to keep myself afloat and wait for the chance to break free from the current. This sucked, there goes my relaxing weekend. I didn’t expect that I would have to fight for my life this week!
I was snapped out of my thoughts by blinding pain hitting my leg. I guess I had just hit a rock and loudly cried out my dissatisfaction. Would this be the end of my life?
Chapter 4- The Great Struggle
Quin and Husky were just having relaxing day fishing. Quin was a bit of a jokester; he enjoyed messing around with his best friend Husky (who was the opposite of Quin). The duo were basking in the sun, and their already tanned skin from being mixed was getting darker. Husky was relieved that Quin had decided to ease up on his usual playful disposition because they had a long week working for a mining company.
"I'm so tired" Quin yawned and stretched out on his chair.
Husky agreed. His blue eyes were closed from being so content. "I almost wish that I could just be this lazy everyday" Husky added, still relaxed.
Quin didn't feel the need to reply, he just nodded even though Husky didn't see. What surprised Quin was that he could see a blonde girl bobbing in the river. She seemed to be struggling, and he instinctively knew that she needed saving. Without thinking he dashed into the water.
Husky became startled and opened his eyes to see his younger friend jump into the river.
Quin, however, was not the best swimmer; his strength was the only thing that made him reach the young girl. He grabbed onto her and helped her stay above the water.
"Hey, I got you" He gasped as he was also swept by the current. Sammi was too tired and focused to reply. Quin fought to stay above the water with the girl. He started yelling for Husky to save him.
Husky, who was still on shore, rolled his eyes and facepalmed. He quickly stood up and tied his long hair out of his face before making his way out the drowning victims. He rolled his eyes and expertly swam to catch up to them. He was surprised by how deep and strong the current was in this area. He quickly grabbed on to the two drowned rats.
"My hero!" Quin yelled before he accidentally swallowed a gulp of water and started choking.
"Can you help, instead of screw around?" Husky ground out. As he expected, the girl was barely able to stay afloat, but Husky was surprised to find that his friend was already weakening. The two were creating so much drag that Husky was having trouble breaking free from the current.
"Fuck" He sighed. Left with little choice, he did something that he would later regret doing. He shifted into his other form.
Chapter 5- Cannibals?
Sammi was so relieved that this guy was trying to save her. She was incredibly disappointed when the other guy had failed to do so. She was also a feeling a bit guilty because she was probably going to be the cause of two other deaths not including her own.
This new guy couldn't save both herself and her first savior. She almost told the long hair guy just to save his friend when she saw something that almost made her faint. The guy in front of her was now a giant grizzly bear. She must have been hallucinating from the lack of oxygen.
Her original savior grabbed on to the bear with one arm hooked around me, and the grizzly proceeded to drag us to the shore. I could feel the power behind each leg as it pushed through the water. Soon enough, I became limp as gravity became apparent when we reach the shore. I was gently laid on the dirt and immediately fell asleep exhausted.
I woke in an unfamiliar room and was annoyed trying to blink the blurriness from my eyes. It took a few moments for the events leading up to this caught up with me. I sighed heavily. It was just my luck that something like this would happen to me. I was so annoyed. Why couldn’t I just have a normal and relaxing vacation?
“Good to see that you’re up” A voice spoke to me from the shadows. I immediately thought that was creepy.
“Could you maybe not be so ominous” I deadpanned.
“Oh sorry,” An attractive tanned guy with short dark hair came out from the shadows. He was hot! Too bad he had to ruin our first conversation by being creepy.
“So I’m guessing you were the one who started drowning” I guessed. He seemed embarrassed and I couldn’t help but tease him.
“At least I tried” He mumbled.
“Yeah, thank you. I’m just teasing” I laughed. He smiled back.
We stared at each other for an awkward moment before looking away. It then dawned on me that I had seen a man turn into a bear and carry me out of danger. I had to have hallucinated that!
“Where’s the bear guy?” I pointed at the man in front of me accusingly. He looked panicked and cursed before he ran out of the room. That's such a guilty reaction!
What do I even do?! They're probably eating me because I'm pretty sure that's what bears do. Eat people. I caught myself making a horrified face and tried rolling off the couch to make my get away. I completely forgot that I hurt my leg and collapsed to the floor heavily. I groaned and rolled around. It was moments like these that I wished I was just a bit lighter. My eyes widened as the two guys entered the room. We all made awkward eye contact until the long haired man turned around. His shoulders shook in what I assumed to be laughter.
The other guy wasn't any better off. He had his mouth covered and desperately seemed to be fighting off laughter.
"Shut up" I snapped. They lost it. I watched as they broke out in heavy laughter. It was contagious, and I soon found myself laughing along with them.
This is so weird. Do people usually laugh with cannibals? Probably not.
"Here I'll help you up," The long haired guy told me, attempting to get me back to the couch. I eyed him suspiciously.
"Thanks" I finally told him. I was surprised that he got me to the couch so easily. He lifted me as if I weighed as much as a feather.
I wish that were the case!
"My name is Husky" He shook mine had once I was all situated. I shook it back and noticed he had a very firm handshake. The other guy waved at me.
"I'm Quin," He told me with a huge smile. I thought that these two guys were pretty cute. I just wish that they weren't complete freaks, especially of the monster kind.
"My names Sammi, so am I going to be eaten?" I got straight to the point.
Husky exchanged a look with Quin, and I rolled my eyes. "You obviously remember what happened" Husky
stated carefully. I nodded glaring.
"Well, we're not going to eat you so you can settle down." Quin piped up.
"Okay, that great!" I sighed relieved.
"But-," Quin started, "You can't leave" Husky ended.
I stared at them, not quite comprehending what they meant.
"What?" I asked.
Chapter 6- Just My Luck
“Well, you’ve seen what we can do. In order to persevere, we can’t let you leave. I would put us in danger” Husky explained. I was trying not to have a complete mental breakdown, but I was having trouble. I had a blank expression on my face the entire time he was explaining this to me, I think I looked ready to stab someone.
