If she still had one. She had to admit that everything had gone to hell, and her status now both with the military or Kaur Industries was one big question mark.
And Quinn was so very near, and he was strong, handsome, kind and caring, just about anything a woman would want in a man. A magnetic current ran between them drawing them inexorably closer. And she understood now. He could no more not kiss her as she refused his kiss.
His lips touched hers, tender at first, a hesitant pressing of velvety flesh against hers. He tasted delicious, like salt and spice, and when his tongue pressed forward she open allowing him entrance. Quinn became more demanding then barely able to restrain his passion. Dana heard a groan and then realized it was her own. His mouth broke away, and she gasped as his lips peppered kisses the length of her neck and behind her ear.
“Dana, my sweet Dana, I can’t get enough. You set me on fire, Dana. I can’t remember wanting someone as much as I want you.”
His hands found her breasts and his fingers her nipples. He rolled them between the fabric of her clothes and pressed them together. The motion sent a sharp tweak of pleasure and pain through her and she mewled.
“Oh damn, Quinn.”
“No, Dana. Don’t damn me. Love me. I’ll only be damned if you don’t.”
CHAPTER EIGHT
Quinn
Quinn had never felt so strongly compelled to hold a woman as he did Dana. Her blonde hair, the soft angles of her face, the curve of her breasts called to him when he first spotted her in Hibley’s office. But it was easy enough to toss that off as the usual reaction to a beautiful woman.
Until his dragon emerged and the world shifted. One whiff of her sexy scent and the dragon rumbled impossible thoughts in his head. As he licked the gasoline from her clothes and her hair he got a taste of her essence on his tongue. And then there was no doubt.
Mine, the dragon said.
The sense of ownership was so total that he found it difficult to leave her behind to forage for supplies. He feared her head injury would worsen as he scrounged for what they needed, but the dragon part of him, which seemed to be hyperaware of her, assured him physically she’d be fine.
And then there was this connection between his mind and hers. He caught it when she first touched him, but now that he had her scent in his nose, after licking her from head to toe, it corded and twined from his mind to hers. They were bound together.
The human part of him wondered and rebelled at this, but the dragon part of him hummed in satisfaction. And the dragon didn’t care one bit that Quinn the human thought the whole “she’s mine” thing an over reach.
Humans don’t do this! he told his dragon self.
You aren’t human.
She won’t want this.
She’s mine. So she will.
The whole talking to himself like he was a different person was freaky too. To get his mind off the strangeness of it the experience he foraged for supplies using his stealth training to infiltrate farms and appropriate resources.
Okay. That was wrong. But Quinn had a sense he was in real trouble. The best thing to do was lay low and figure out their next move. And for that he needed to talk to Dana. But now, that whole plan blew up as the dragon had other plans for the luscious doctor.
He searched her lovely blue eyes as she lay under him, her mouth forming a perfect oh after he broke the kiss.
That kiss. Could a kiss be more wonderful? He covered it hungrily as if she was the first bite of a feast. And she responded by arching her back and pressing her body into his. Blood rushed south, filling him to an aching hardness. He just didn’t want her. Want was a pale reflection of the emotions that flood his heart and soul. He needed her as if she were food and water, and if he couldn’t have her he’d die from the lack.
All the emptiness of his previous life, the loneliness, vanished in her eager kisses. Holding her was heaven, and kissing her lips so sublime he thought he’d pass out.
But she pushed her hands against him.
“Quinn,” she said hoarsely. “What are we doing?”
“Lending aid and comfort,” he said with a smile.
“Is that what it is?”
Ruefully he pulled away.
“Do you want to talk about this now?” he said.
“I’m, I’m overwhelmed,” she stuttered. “I mean what is happening? I mean I hardly know you. I don’t rush into— well I don’t have one night stands.”
“And step beyond the bounds of doctor, study-participant relationship?”
“Well, yes.”
“Consider this a field study in dragon behavior.”
“Dragon? You look human to me.”
He sat back on his heels and sighed.
“This is most definitely a dragon thing,” he said. “The dragon seems to think you belong to him. I don’t know why, but I don’t object.”
“His? Yours? Humans don’t own people, Quinn. At least not legally.”
“Yeah, but I’m not human, remember? The dragon wants you, all of you and it’s all I can do to hold that back.”
She bit her lip and it drove him crazy. If she kept doing that he was going to have to kiss those plush lips again.
“Do you want to,” she said, “hold back?”
He shook his head. “Who wouldn’t want you, Dana? Look at you. You’re gorgeous and smart, and damn just about perfect. But what I don’t want to do is force myself on you, though the dragon part of me thinks that’s a great idea.”
“I see,” said Dana.
“Sorry, no, you don’t. You should because of the connection we have, but you are holding back, shutting out the dragon. And I don’t know how you do that because I can’t. Every part of me strains to touch you, be one with you, and I don’t understand it any more than you do.”
She reached and touched his stubbled cheek.
“I get it. I do. What’s between us is too intense.”
“It is, but I don’t not want it.”
She closed her eyes, and her eyelashes fluttered and it stole his breath away.
“I’m on fire,” she whispered, “all through my body. The only thing I want is you, right now. The good Lord help me, I need you too.”
“Dana,” he said hoarsely. Quinn descended on her hot mouth. He burned too, washed with emotions that demanded he take her now. His tongue lashed her neck and then down to her breast, and as he peppered her flesh with kisses. It was a blur of hands and mouths as they tossed off their clothing. Quinn thrilled at the feel of her naked flesh against his.
“God, Quinn,” she gasped. “please.”
“Oh, baby,” he groaned. His hand found her entrance wet and ready and he growled. He pulled apart her legs and slid his face between them breathing deeply.
“You are so fucking sexy,” he moaned.
“Quinn!”
His lips touched the tender flesh and with the tip of his tongue tasted her cream. It was tasty, just like every part of her and he dove in, lapping and nipping while she groaned.
“Please, Quinn,” she pleaded.
She bucked her hips against his mouth and he speared her with his tongue reaching as far as could as he could inside her.
She thrashed and pulsed around his tongue and gripped his head holding him to her. Through their connection, he felt her orgasm as if it were his own. Her cream gushed around his tongue as stars burst behind his eyelids.
It was heaven.
Her breathing even out and her hands relaxed.
“Baby,” she said. “That was amazing.”
Quinn pushed himself up and clasped her around her neck, enjoying the warm sensation of his flesh against hers. He wiped her blonde hair from her eyes.
“Good,” he said as he stared into her eyes and wiped her hair from her eyes. “You are amazing.”
She snuggled into his shoulder.
“What is this? A little rest?”
“Yes. The dragon isn’t done with you yet.”
“The dragon?” she
laughed. “Or you?’
“One in the same, baby,” he growled playfully. He licked one nipple and she shivered.
“Like that?” Quinn with smile.
“Yes,” she said breathily.
He took her other pink nipple in his mouth and sucked sharply on it.
“Ah,” she said arching her back.
Quinn watched the expression on her face as it tightened in her pleasure and then relaxed as she sighed. She snuck her hand to his stomach where the tip of his cock rested and touched it lightly.
“Oh, woman,” he sighed. “You should do more.”
“What would you like, Quinn?”
“You,” he said.
Dana lightly stroked his length with her fingers lightly scraping his skin with her fingernails. He pushed into her hand.
“That feels so good.”
“Quinn,” she sounded hesitant.
“Yes,” he said.
“Don’t you want, I mean- “
“Yeah, but there is no rush. I mean I felt everything you felt and I’m just sort of relaxing into it.”
“But you’re so hard.”
It was true. He felt the urgency of his erection, but this, holding her, being close with her was so special he wanted to savor this moment. That he could be so excited and yet so satisfied to touch Dana was a joy he didn’t want to dissipate just yet.
“Yup. I think that’s how the dragon responds to you. But me wanting to hold you is how I respond to you.
“Wow,” she said. “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. But you know what?”
“What?””
“I want you inside me.”
Oh damn. The dragon roared inside him, stoking the fire that burned inside him for this woman. He kissed her fiercely, hungrily as if there was no end for his need for her. And there wasn’t. Quinn sensed her excitement and heard her heart hammer against her chest. Every touch of his lips or hands brought little shivers and moans jacking his need higher.
He rolled her on top of him.
“I want to see your face,” he said, “when you come.”
She rolled her hips as her tender flesh rubbed against his cock. Dana whimpered a sexy sound and he couldn’t hold back anymore. With a swift movement, he rolled her on her back and held his cock at her entrance.
“Are you ready, baby?” he said.
She nodded her head and he slid forward. Silken softness and incredible heat engulfed him. Dana was so tight and something butted against his tip.
“Dana?” he said. “You’re not?”
She bit her lip, driving him crazy again.
“Not anymore,” she said shyly. “Finish it, Quinn. Take me.”
A virgin. How rare and precious. The dragon part of him rumbled his approval.
Of course your mate would wait for you, the dragon part of him affirmed.
Mate. Mate? But it sounded right. It felt right. There was so much he didn’t understand about the dragon inside him, but sharing their first experience at sex both untried was perfect.
Her eyes fluttered open at these thoughts.
“You too?”
“Not anymore,” he said quirked his lips into a smile.
She was hot and welcoming. Her body took all of him as he pushed forward. She gasped and he stopped, but then she smiled.
“You feel so good,” she said. “Like we are fitted for just each other.”
He agreed, and took a deep breath as he moved within her, building his rhythm, feeling ever shudder of her body, how pleasure rushed through her veins. His wide hands gripped her waist as his strokes gained urgency and speed. Her back arched, her entrance meeting the root of his cock, moaning under him, urging him to take her harder and faster.
A rush zinged through his balls signaling his rapid rush toward release.
“Baby,” he gasped, “come for me.”
She broke apart, calling his name and as before her pleasure rushed through him. He thrust into her hard as his seed jetted into her, sending an uncontrollable urge through him to bite her. With thinking he clamped his teeth in the tender spot that joined her neck and shoulder.
Dana came again, her body shaking with the force of her pleasure, and Quinn lifted his head and roared.
He claimed her and she was his forever.
“Wow,” said a raspy voice from the entrance of the cave. “That was one helluva show.”
Quinn stood and faced the shadowy form at the entrance of their cave.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Relax, wyrmling. I’m only here to help you.”
“Yeah, well, we’ve had quite enough of that to last us a long time.”
“I know you’ve had difficulties. Here, let’s solve this lighting problem you have.”
A streak of red fire shot through the cave and hit the same rocks that Quinn lighted earlier. But they glowed brighter and hotter.
The figure drew back the hood of his floor-length cape. With a face lined with wrinkles and long white hair hanging over his shoulders he was the most ancient looking man he’d ever seen. Only this wasn’t a man. The scent of sulphur hung about it as if it was a part of his natural scent. He was a dragon, though infinitely older than Quinn.
“Again,” said Quinn darkly. “Who are you?”
“Brash,” said the ancient dragon. “Impertinent. Young. He shook his head. “I am Primus Edgar Gentrix, but you can call me Ed.”
“Ed?” said Quinn. His voice trembled with the incredulity of the word.
“Yes,” said Ed with an inscrutable smile. “I am your fore-sire. Or as human call it, your grandfather.”
CHAPTER NINE
Dana
Though she couldn’t see clearly in the dim light afforded by the dawn’s light, she caught the Quinn’s outline, muscles bunched. Poised to fight. Her warrior. Dana located her clothes and drew them over her naked body as Quinn faced the man.
No. Not man. Dragon. This she sensed about it and like her connection to Quinn she reached out.
Nothing.
“Your seneschal is strong, wyrmling. She could almost gain entrance to my mind. But I will not let her, not yet.”
“What do you want?” said Quinn. His suspicion sizzled along their connection to her.”
“Your seneschal, of course. There is important work to do.”
“I don’t know what you mean by ‘seneschal,’” said Quinn.
“Here, seneschal,” said Ed, “Take my robe so we can talk.”
He swung off the robe and tossed it to Dana.
“I have my own clothes.”
“Yes. But you’ll need this for the ride, to keep you warm.”
“Ride?” said Quinn. He stepped closer to Ed. “Ride, to where?”
“My lair. I have to prepare her for the days to come.”
“You’re not taking her anywhere,” snapped Quinn.
Ed gave an exasperated sigh. “Stand aside, wyrmling. I have no wish to harm you. Come, seneschal. I call you to your duties.”
The ancient dragon held out his hand beckoning her.
Dana stared into the dragon’s eyes, caught in the thrall of them. As much as she wanted to stay with Quinn, the pull to the dragon was too strong to ignore.
“No!”
Quinn barreled into Ed trying to knock him off balance. But the elder dragon lifted his arm and with one movement pushed Quinn into the wall. He crumpled unconscious to the floor of the cave.
“Quinn!” She ran to him and cradled his head against her breast.
“Come, seneschal,” said Ed. His voice was cold and apparently, the dragon had no concerned with Quinn’s state. “He will fight to the death for you and he cannot win against me. The only way to preserve his life is to come with me now.”
Dana felt the pull again, and it was stronger than her desire to stay with Quinn.
“I don’t want to leave him like this,” she said.
He hissed. “Even now he heals. He will be fine. Now, human. I’m am long l
ived by I am losing patience.”
Dana swallowed hard and stood. She had faith that Quinn would be okay though she didn’t trust Quinn’s self-proclaimed grandfather one iota.
Ed nodded as if they came to a silent agreement and he led her to the mouth of the cave. The entrance spilled out on a broad shelf that overlooked the mountains covered in green. They undulated like the waves of the ocean into the morning’s pinkish mist.
“He has good instinct and chose well, but he was too close to humans not to be noted, especially when he stole from his neighbors. It’s not stealing, of course. It is our natural right to take from the land. After all, it was ours first.”
A small sound escaped Dan’s lips. No one knew how long dragons occupied Earth but she was beginning to suspect that it was a lot longer than humans suspected.
“What is that?” said Ed.
“Nothing,” said Dana.
Ed turned to her and cupped her chin with his hand. She shivered as the sense of his extreme age washed through her.
“There can be no secrets between us, seneschal.”
