Waiting For Al Page 3

by Les "Buzz" Harcus

Web of Greed – Homicide detective Sam August is trying to solve the deaths of four people in a small family neighborhood. Two male victims work for NASA, another male is unknown, and the fourth victim is a waitress from a local bar. He soon finds himself embroiled in a complex web of double-dealing, sex, computer chips and a variety of suspects including a wealthy millionaire industrialist, his young wife, her lover, a substitute wife, a wheel-dealer sailor with no visible means of income, an Asian crime gang, a hot-shot FBI Agent, and a crooked lawyer out to feather his nest at all cost.

A Breath of Spring – Playing good Samaritan got Dave Harding more than he bargained for when he came to the assistance of a young beat-up prostitute lying in an alley. It was the same young whore who had accosted him earlier that night. Leave her, walk away, but he couldn’t, she needed help. She refused to go to a hospital and staggered away. Moments later he found her lying unconscious on the sidewalk. He picked her up, put her in a cab, and took her home. Could he help her? Within a week of conflict, confrontation and adjustment they finally met on common ground – he’s a writer, she wrote for her high school year book, and so began a strained working relationship. Dave soon learns someone wants her dead! Can he save her?

  READER RESPONSE

  A Breath of Spring:

I really loved reading A Breath of Spring. It’s your best work yet of all four books. I enjoyed each of them, but A Breath of Spring is my favorite.

  Irma Hierlihy, Bellaire, MI

I enjoyed reading A Breath of Spring. Very good. But my favorite is still Web of Greed with Sam August. I hope you write another one with him.

Diana – Lil Store, Starvation Lake

  Web of Greed:

Had a chance to read your book over the weekend. I could not put it down. What a great read. Sam August reminded me of Mike Hammer from the 50’s. Web of Greed is your best work to date. Would make a great movie.

  Jim Rice, Ballston Spa, NY

Web of Greed is a fast paced crime novel introducing Detective Sam August, who enjoys pretty women, drinking and sailing, but not in any specific order.

Ray Walsh, Book Review, Lansing State Journal

Harcus has got himself a top-shelf read from beginning to end. Romance, action and greed highlight the venue of plots that thread their way across Texas. This novel will not disappoint readers as the plot thickens with Detective Sam August hot on the trail of one major bad dude!

  Dan Cole, Big Twin Lake

  China Marine: Tsingtao Treasure:

Your writing style made the book a hard one to lay down. I found myself placing it on the floor by my easy chair for a few minutes and being compelled to pick it up again so as to experience the next chain of events.

  Mike Schreiner, Lansing, MI

Congratulations!!!!! I loved the book. I finished it last night. You bet it kept my attention. It moved fast and was fun to read. When is the next one coming out?

  Dorothy Luxton, Bellaire, MI

Read your book and really enjoyed it. You painted a good picture of Tsingtao. The story line was very good and descriptions of places were excellent. I did think you were a bit heavy on sex, but hell, who doesn’t like sex!

Ole Olsen (China Marine) Ontario, CA

  Tainted Treasure:

Hi Buzz. I took your two books – China Marine: Tsingtao Treasure and Tainted Treasure – to Florida with me and read them while I was there. They sure were good reading, and all I could think of was “I hope that you are planning to write more of the exciting adventures of Harry Martin.” I’ve become one of your biggest fans.

  Dolores Borrow, Flint, MI

I enjoyed reading Tainted Treasure. I like the way you develop your characters and bring them together. Harry became a good friend from the start. Your books have the right mix of suspense, intrigue, excitement and humor.
