  Tab glared at him.

Ty withdrew and turned Rose onto her back. He appeared especially brutal with his blackened eye, a primitive light shining within the green iris. He entered her.

Tab leaned over her and began to kiss her lips. His fingers found her nipples and he twisted them as Ty increased his pace. Rose gasped.

  “Tab, hold her legs.”

Tab rose and leaned further over her. He spread her legs wide and held them so that she could not move. She cried out as Ty achieved greater depth.

“Oh, my clit! Rub my clit!”

Tab licked a finger and did as she asked.

Rose reached up and grabbed hold of his member. She licked and sucked until she tasted the first bit of liquid within.

Another climax swept over her body and she released Tab in order to clutch the covers. Her nails dug into the cloth as she cried out.

“Good thing she let go,” Tab said above her. He was still stroking that essential part of her and it strengthened the sensation ten-fold. He was merciless.

The rain poured down outside. It beat a gentle rhythm on the cabin’s tin roof. Ty adopted that rhythm, moving slowly against her. Tab backed up and released her legs.

“Remember, Ty, to initiate her, we both have to come inside.”

“Alright, Tab. You first.” He pulled out as Tab rushed across the bed to take his place. Ty didn’t take his. Instead, he stood by the door with his back toward them.

“Jesus,” Tab breathed as he slid into her. “You’re tight.”

He leaned over, pressed his body against her, and kissed her throat. His pace was slow.

Tab was sexy. He was the same size as his brother, he looked and moved the same. When she closed her eyes, his voice was the same. His technique was wonderful, but something was missing. She lay on the outer reaches of pleasure, unable to attain that which he sought the most.

“Wait a minute.” He rose off of her and began to scratch his forearm.

  “What is that?”

Tab looked down. An angry red rash spread across his skin.

“I don’t know. It wasn’t there a few minutes ago.”

“Did you touch any plants out there?”

“There was a plant by the generator shed.”

“Were the leaves clustered in a set of three?”

  “Yes.”

“It’s blistering. Looks like you have a rash from poison oak.”

  “Damn.”

“Come to the bathroom. We’ll put some calamine on it.”

He walked toward the door and she got up to follow. Ty still stood by the door and when Tab passed through it, he stepped in front of Rose. He shut the door and locked it.

  “Ty, what are you doing?”

“Tab can take care of himself.”

  He turned on her.

“You’re trying to stop my initiation.”

  “That’s right.”

He advanced on her and she backed toward the bed.

  “What are you doing?”

He pulled her toward him with his good arm and kissed her mouth.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Tab cried through the locked door. “Let me in.”

“Go take care of your rash. I got things here.”

“Tab, you should take a bath and put rubbing alcohol on your skin afterward,” she called out. “That rash will spread if you don’t.”

  “Jesus,” Tab yelled.

“Poor Tab. Every time he tries something with me, something happens. The first time, I choked on a bug, then I stepped in the toilet when he kissed me, and now this.”

“Sounds like he was getting signs.”

  “Signs?”

“To stay away. You’re my woman.”

“I am?” A slow grin spread across her face. “Then you’d better do something about it.”

She lay back on the bed and he came up beside her.

“I’m not that great at one arm push-ups,” he said staring at the cast on his arm.

She pushed him over onto his back. “Don’t worry about it.” She straddled him and sank down onto his member.

He cupped her face with his hand then kissed it. She started to move against him, but he took over raising his hips against her own. She closed her eyes and allowed him deep entry.

  “Oh…oh…” She leaned backward.

  “Fuck,” he groaned.

Ty’s entire body became tense as her pleasure climbed to its peak. Her fingers tingled when it burst over her.

He reached up, grasped the back of her neck and pulled her forward. His emerald eyes held her captive as he finished within her.

Her cries echoed in the room as she fell on top of him. Though his skin was warm and slick with sweat, he held her tightly against him.

  Chapter 11

It was still dark when she awoke beside him. This time, she had her watch on and the digital readout read 3:30.

  “So sexy…” Ty mumbled.

Rose smiled. Like his brother, Ty was also a sleep talker. She snuggled against him, wondering what he would say next.

  “I…”

  “You what?” she whispered playfully.

  “Love…you.”

Though her eyes were dark adapted, she could not see in the blackness. Whether he was awake or not was a mystery.

“I love you too,” she replied.

  He responded with a snore.

Rose left the bedroom dressed in Ty’s T-shirt. She turned a lamp on in the living room and discovered Tab in the chair.

“I’m sorry,” she said reaching to switch it back off.

“I wasn’t asleep,” he replied. He wore no shirt and his forearm was covered in white.

  “Is your rash alright?”

  “I’ll live.”

  “Tab, I’m sorry.”

  He didn’t answer.

“You know how it is between Ty and me.”

Without a word, he lowered the recliner and stepped toward the window. He stood off to the side and peered through it cautiously.

  “Tab—“

  “Shh,” he cautioned.

The rain had stopped and an owl hooted somewhere off in the wood.

“Turn off that light,” he hissed.

She turned to switch the lamp off and thunder roared again. Glass shattered behind her and the lamp exploded just before she touched it, sending glass shards into the dark. Rose dropped to the floor and covered her head with her hands.

  “You all right, Rose?”

“I’m ok.” She crawled toward the bedroom just as Ty opened the door.

  “Rosie?”

  “Here.”

  He dropped down beside her.

  “Did the pros find us?”

“Pros, my ass. These shitheads can’t hit the broadside of a barn.” Tab replied. He was crawling away in the dark. Closet hinges creaked.

“I don’t think they are pros,” Ty added. “Professionals would never be this sloppy. I think they’re just thugs in fancy suits.”

“Let’s find out,” Tab said. Something slid across the floor toward them. It was a pistol. Ty picked it up.

“Ty? Tab? Are you in there?” a voice called out.

  “It’s Bear,” Tab said grimly.

“Yeah. Looks like the son of a bitch is going to do his own dirty work this time.”

“Boys, I’m coming in,” the big man shouted.

“Bear, you come in here and you’ll be a dead man,” Ty called back. “I know you had Dad killed. And I’m pretty sure that was Rory in the elevator. What’d he do? Join the Sicilians? Or is it the Russians? Wait a sec, his mother is Russian. I guess that answers my question.”

Bullets smashed into the windows and the front of the cabin. Ty covered Rose with his body.

“I’m sorry about this, boys, I truly am. Too bad you have the baby girl in there with you. She shouldn’t have to die.”

“Come and get us, Bear,” Ty yelled. He helped her into the bedroom and handed her the pistol.

  “If th
ey come in here, use it. Stay near the floor.”

  “Ty… I…”

“I love you too.” He closed the door behind him.

His voice was muffled as he addressed Tab. “Break out the guns, Brother.”

  Chapter 12

Gunfire filled the air as Rose sat panting on the floor. The pistol was a .44 and much heavier than her mother’s .22. The recoil would probably knock her small frame backward if she were standing. At most, she would probably get off only one good shot.

The white light of dawn began to fill the room and though the air was cool, beads of sweat slid down her body under the T-shirt. It dripped from her face onto her arms. She swallowed and gripped the pistol tighter.

A shadow blocked the light from the bedroom window. Rose spun to see the silhouette behind the white curtain. Before she knew it, she squeezed the trigger. The pistol bucked in her hands and she lost her grip on it. The silhouette went down.

The report brought Ty running. He burst through the door just as Rose scrambled to pick up the pistol.

  “Out there.” She pointed.

Tab was still firing out the window. He glanced into the bedroom and then back out the front.

Ty cautiously pulled the ragged curtain aside and looked out.

  “He’s dead.”

A chill grasped her heart. “Who was it?”

  “Rory.”

Numbness filled her and she slumped against the bed.

  “I used to babysit him.”

Ty pulled her to her feet. “Don’t break down on me now, Rosie. We have to get through this.”

“I got one,” Tab announced grimly.

Ty crouched down and quickly joined his brother. Rose stood with her back against the door jamb. Her hands no longer shook as she held the .44.

“Bear? You there?” Ty called out.

  The shooting slowly ceased.

  “Yeah?”

  “Rory’s dead.”

“Who killed him?” Bear choked out.

  “It was me,” Tab shouted.

  “Step out, Tab.”

Rose rushed forward, her eyes wild. “What are you doing?”

“How many do you have left, Bear?”

  The big man paused. “Two.”

“Send them home. This is our fight. Just you and me.” He turned to Rose. “I’m going to end this.”

  “Ty, don’t let him.”

“Do we have a deal, Bear?”

  Another pause. “Yes.”

“I want to see them go. Have them drop their guns in front of the cabin. When they leave, I’ll come out.”

“You can’t do this,” she wailed.

Tab took the .44 from her hand and checked the magazine. “I don’t want any help, Ty,” he said. “He tried to kill me the other night and I call dibs. If he kills me, then you can shoot. You swear?”

  “Tab—“

“Swear, Ty.” The twins locked eyes. Then Tab slid over toward Rose. “You got her. Give me this.”

  “I swear.” Ty said.

“That’s a stupid idea,” she cried, blocking his way to the door. “What’re you going to do, have a gunfight? You’re not Jesse James.”

“No.” He grinned. “I’m the original outlaw.”

Two men dressed in black suits walked into view. They dropped their weapons on the porch and departed.

Tab nodded to his brother and turned to go.

  “Tab, please. I love you.”

He kissed her gently on the cheek. Before she could say another word, he was out the door.

  It slammed behind him.

An engine revved to life, then receded into the distance as Bear appeared. His face was florid, eyes red-rimmed. He stopped walking when he saw Tab.

“Eye for an eye, Tab.” Bear said.

“I’d say that’s already been satisfied. Your son for my dad. I guess you’re not sorry anymore.”

Ty raised his gun just as Bear raised his pistol.

Tab was a second slower than Bear. As the bullet struck him he pulled the trigger. The slug from the .44 slammed into Bear, knocking him off of his feet. He was dead before he hit the ground.

Rose rushed to Tab’s side. He was holding his side as blood leaked between his fingers.

“Guess Jesse James is the true outlaw after all,” he said.

  Chapter 13

Two days later, Rose and Ty entered Tab’s hospital room just after the cops had left. Dixie was waiting for them, as was Rex. Rose walked up to the bed.

“They say you saved my life,” Tab said. “And I hear you’re about to save my brother’s.”

Ty stepped up. “Are you sure you won’t change your mind?”

He shook his head, and winced at the movement. “No, somebody’s got to lead the Jesters and it might as well be me. Maybe, we’ll cut the ties with the Russians, take the biz in a more legitimate direction.”

  “Can you do that?”

“It’s what Dad wanted and why Bear had him killed. I’ll pick up where he left off. With Rex as Vice-President, how can I go wrong?”

He stared into Rose’s eyes. “You take care of my Rose, Brother. If you don’t, I’ll hear about it.”

“You don’t have to worry about her.” Ty slipped an arm around her waist. “I think the college girl can teach me a thing or two.”

Tab leaned over. “Do you think you could get me a beer? They’re killing me in here.”

A nurse entered the room. She checked over Tab’s vitals and then flashed him a smile as she walked out.

“Sorry about the beer. At least you have pretty nurses.”

Tab grinned. “Yeah, and wouldn’t you know it. She’s just my type.”
