She slowly pulled back from him. “Thank you,” Sabrina said again as she stared up at Luke. “You are such a liar.”
“True.” Luke inclined his head.
Adam was still trying to wrap his head around his new life. “I’m…I’m going to spend forever with Sabrina?”
She let out a cry of delight.
“Yes, you are.” Luke’s voice held a hint of amusement. “You’ll have to decide if that’s heaven or hell.”
Heaven.
But Luke was eyeing Sabrina again. “I was wondering when you were going to drag your ass over here to him. Expected it a lot sooner…”
“I thought I was being good,” Sabrina threw at him.
“How’d that work for you?” Luke wanted to know.
Adam couldn’t stand it any longer. He grabbed Sabrina. My Sabrina. I missed her…my heart was fucking gone without her…And he kissed her. Deep and hot.
And she kissed him back the same way. When he finally lifted his head, Luke was still watching.
Seriously, the guy needed to leave.
“Being good didn’t work so well,” Sabrina said softly, her words directed at their watcher. “I think I like being bad better.”
Luke laughed. And, finally, he turned away.
Adam focused on Sabrina. His memories were there. Bright and strong. It was as if he’d been sleeping. And he’d finally woken up to the real world.
Made sense, she was his world.
But…
Sabrina pulled from him. “I kept my end of the bargain!” Sabrina yelled.
Luke was just about to step off the roof. He looked back at her shout.
“So don’t return and try to screw with our lives. Adam is safe now, got it?”
Luke rubbed his chin. “Just how do you think you kept your bargain? I haven’t asked you for payment yet.”
“I understood part of your game. I’m not like the others that you play with…” Her fingers were twined with Adam’s. “I inspired…I gave your brother Leo just the right amount of inspiration. That’s why he’s not dodging our steps right now. He’s taking his turn with Fate, and what happens next…that’s going to be the end game that you’ve been waiting for. So I hope you’re ready.”
Luke’s wings spread behind him. “I’ve always been ready.” And then Luke flew into the night.
Sabrina started to step away from Adam.
Hell, no. He yanked her right back. “You think I’m letting you go?”
He wanted to chain her to his side.
“Better question,” Sabrina whispered. “You think I’m letting you go?” Then she rose onto her toes. Her lips brushed his, but, unlike the kiss before, this one was soft. Gentle.
Tender.
“I’d fight anyone and anything for you, Adam Cross. You might have started as my protector…”
And I’ll be that for the rest of our lives.
“But I can battle for you, too. I can and I will because nothing matters more to me than you do. Nothing.”
The Lord of the Dark was gone. And Adam didn’t give a shit about where Leo might be. Go tangle with fate, asshole.
I’m not human. I’m not a prisoner. He was strong and he was free and the woman he loved was right in front of him. “I would have found you.”
A furrow appeared between her eyes.
“You think I wouldn’t search this earth until I found the other half of my soul?” His words were rough. “Sweetheart, I would have found you.”
She smiled for him. The real smile that he remembered. The one that hinted at hope and joy, the one that showed her love. The one that made him finally feel whole again. Because that was what Sabrina did for him.
More than a mate, more than a lover.
She was the woman who possessed his heart. He was certain she held it in the palm of her hand.
And that she always would.
He kissed her again.

Luke wasn’t really into voyeurism. Not one of his kinks. So he left the lovers on the rooftop, and he counted the night as another win for him.
Most nights were wins.
The fact that Sabrina had figured out his game…that she’d been going to push her lover into revealing his more…primal side? And she’d already used her power on Leo?
Well, that just meant he’d need to keep a closer eye on Sabrina. The woman was a little too smart. And dangerous.
That was why he’d worked to give her Adam. Sabrina was happy with the fellow. And a happy muse…that was a muse who wouldn’t get in Luke’s way. That was a muse who would owe him.
